This is the first video about editing that talks about burnouts. I have been so focused on watching countless tutorials, burying myself in the technical side of things, but neglected the philosophy behind the art. Perhaps I should start finding equilibrium. Your video is very inspirational, clear, and concise. You made my day.

The two last points are sooo crucial especially when you get into the flow state. Idk how many times I caught myself sitting down 5h without a real break and the worst part is, when you realize that, you get up and you become dizzy all of a sudden because your mind needs to comprehend reality first before being able to function normally again :D

Another banger of a video! As an editor myself I think this is great advice so hats off to you. The only part I only partially agree with is the courses bit. I've personally bought one single course and even though I could find 90% of this info on TH-cam it saved me weeks/months looking for same information on YT (and it wasn't expensive either) so worth it in my book. Totally agree on the liars selling dreams though.

No need to say this video is helpful, you know that. But I think there is a thing which resonated with me the most. That is the idea of implementing new things gradually. There is no reason to try to control every aspect of the process if that comes to the cost of not producing and learning more. I also think it helps a lot if you have someone who's on the same plane as you, so you can learn together. That's something I'm looking for... someone starting TH-cam or a hobby relating any type of content creation with similar vibe. BTW, super nice to see you reaching 100k views with this video. Keep it going!

7:40 Thank you for mentioning this. I've been really hard for myself that I couldn't get my current client's own deadline. I thought I was really slow in editing. Plus my laptop specs is not really that high. Core i7 8th gen, 32gb ram, using only internal hdd as storage, but with just 1050ti 4gb. That's very low for VSL editing with lots of motion graphics and the total duration of video is 20mins. They keep telling me that I should release video within 3-5 days just like the other video editor as they say. So I tried to meet their own deadline. Working 20hours a day. And guess what, I cannot meet the deadline 3-5 days but 7-8 days. And had a lot of mistakes because I can't focus because of lack of sleep.

    Summary:
    1. You're not valuing your time
(Use shortcuts instead of panels to save time - Extra buttons on mouse or map buttons on keyboard for frequent used actions)
    2. Editing is not as hard as you think
(Combine technical and creative knowledge - Learn more about your software by how the program works and how you would edit compared to tutorials instead of following step-by-step)
    3. Everything you need to know is on TH-cam/Internet
(No lucky charms - Hard work through learning like through podcasts/videos, no courses needed, never buy them!)
    4. Editing blindness - Take breaks
(Nobody will look at each aspect/frame of your video and judge it if there is a small mistake, so don't strive for perfection and only focus on one aspect of the video like the storytelling or flow. This will make you become blind to issues in the video you don't focus on. And sometimes those mistakes can pan-out positively or get ignored. But do however take frequent breaks so you don't get 'editing blindness', or let someone preview your video before uploading so they can spot the issues if they are present.)
    5. Don't overwork yourself
(Don't overwork by setting realistic deadlines. Gauge how long each aspect will take to finish, and count them up. Audio will take 1-2, cutting takes 1 day, etc. Then make a deadline for the total of days. Don't however fixate too much about finding the ''perfect'' music track or footage.)

    @Gaiel44 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

I definitely need to work on the 5th step - I'm taking a 4-hour, part-time job as an editor but I feel like I'm not editing fast enough. Even though my guy said "don't overwork yourself, just be efficient with your working hours" I can't help but overthink or freak myself out with questions like: "What if I'm taking too long?", or "What if they need the video by now?"
As a result, for that 4-hour job, I'd sink in an average 6-8 hours every day. The worst part? I'd be dead exhausted, burnt out, and work 3x slower than I'd usually do!

    Conocimiento Tecnico vs Creatividad Tecnica
    Conocimiento Tecnico

That everyone exaggerates how much time they put into things? You're absolutely correct.

Thank you so much for that information about PODCASTS for learning crucial information. I don’t know about anybody else, but I needed to hear that as I am in the process now reviving my TH-cam channel and the reason why it’s reviving at all not because, I’ve paid for a course but that I put I took a class with professor TH-cam and associate professor google and found out for myself

My only burnout phase in editing would be revising the video before upload, mainly if its above 10 or 15 minutes and Hyperlapse type of videos

Not all courses are created equal - if you just learning interface or basics youtube is your best friend, but if you want to learn Redshift for C4D for example, or other VFX, courses teach you pipeline mentality, holistic approach while to learn the same on youtube you would have to spend 10x more time on various repeat basics and dead end small features and too simple case studies.
