Gapping my Slant Ground Spark Plugs (Non-Projected Electrode)

  • So I know someone will mention that you can put the feeler gauge in place, and then screw the ground strap down to the electrode and be done, with no risk of going to far. While that does ensure you can’t accidentally screw it down too far, my experience has been that it doesn’t actually end up set where the feeler gauge is. The ground strap seems to spring back a bit after you loosen the screw. I suppose you could go a feeler gauge thinner and it will work out in the end, but I honestly just find it works just fine the way I do it in this video. So that’s the way I do it.

It's really only stated to not gap them due to the difficulty and level of care required to gap them.
The method and tool you used is absolutely how they should be gapped if anyone wanted to gap them, but due to the volume of people tapping plugs on a table and using a ring Orielly $0.99 gapper, it was suggested to just run them at the gap they come with.
It was less so of a "you can't" and more so of an "unless you have the right tools than just don't.. rather run a hair fat than break a plug off"

This video is exactly what I needed for info as I ordered the exact same plugs you have in the video. Thanks!

Excellent videos as usual, been subscribed for a little bit now, just need that video on the MPI install, you have probably the easiest to follow euro manifold install video I’ve seen, plannng to install my euro manifold, MPI, vortex xl, and -6 fuel lines on my gli myself now because of your videos. It really simplified it for me, have my E-tune date for next month, can’t wait to see more content

I’m waiting on that final MPI kit! I think I’ll do a fuel line video soon though.

Engineering Logic suggests, if you can break the ground electrode on a non-projected; then, that can also break off into the cylinder.
The complaints of ground electrodes "breaking off" were from people that bought the car used and never checked the plugs or left the plugs in for too long. There was some purported issues linked to the BERU manufactured RS7 plugs, but it surely wasn't from fabrication.
When you examine the evidence that is provided on EQT's summation editorial, you can see that those plugs were pretty toasted.
If perhaps someone is truly RACING (in an event not on the street), then have a pair of TRUE racing plugs and switch them out after the event.

I hate you! I own a tanning salon in California with no employees and all my "sun" comes from beds! Hahaha
I'm fully jealous right now!!! 🤣😜🤣😜
    Great video though!!!
I just installed the Denso 5759's in my GTI yesterday and they measured pretty darn close to .024-.025. I didn't have that gapping tool so I left well enough alone! :)

I just received a set of 1 stage colder non-projected Brisk spark plugs. It already looks tight. I think I’m just going to leave them alone and put them in as is
