Swiss Cargo Trains 2017

Here are some of the many trains I filmed this year ranging from trains transporting goods within Switzerland to some trains covering long distances crossing several European countries. Thanks for watching.

Great video! As a railfan from USA I see trailers on flat cars (TOFC) all the time, but never tractor trailers on flat cars. We also don’t have fully electric freight trains.

Some other differences that i've notice between Europe and the U.S. are that we don't have any double stack trains and all of our trains are so much shorter than yours. Thanks for watching!

@@platformthree6054 yeah, europe doesnt really need double stacked container trains, also the catenary height is too short for double stack containers

A really great compilation and shows the great variety of traffic across Switzerland - and the variable weather too! There is a really nice looking location with tunnels at both ends of a curve - you have shots at ~9-10 minutes and again at 20 minutes - where is that?

Hi, where is a good place and times to see frequent Swiss freight? How frequent is it? Are you hanging about for long? Is there a Real Train Times incl freight equiv, as in UK?

At either end of the Gotthard Base Tunnel (cantons Tichino and Uri) are good spots where freight trains are frequent. You should see a couple of trains in each direction per hour Monday to Saturaday. Around Brig (canton Valais) is also good with the same amount of traffic. Both of these locations see a lot of traffic because they have lines that go on to Italy thus connecting Northern and Southern Europe through Switzerland. There are certainly other places further to the north of the country, theses are the ones I'm most familiar with. Maybe someone else will chime in and help you out. As for a site that gives you live data about the freight train I don't know of one but there is www.sbb.ch/en/s/karte.html which gives live info on passenger trains. Again, perhaps someone else will let us know if such a site exists. I hope that helps!

Josephine Bennington Hey if you want another spot for frequent rail freight I would recommend either Spiez or Thun.
