    I bought the Jinhao 82 in a slightly Translucent Pink with Gold Tone Trim. It certainly very similar to my Sailor Lecoule. The steel nib of the Jinhao 82 is small but writes smoothly and is a suitable as an inexpensive portable pen.

      Yes, it is very comparable to the Sailor PGS and Lecoule. I’ve yet to share the nib comparisons on the set that I received. I should share the Lecoule as well. The inexpensive cost allows you to carry without worry of replacement cost. The Jinhao 82 is worth the cost.

    Did you flush out your Jinhao before using it the first time? Jinhao tests their pens with blue ink, and a little is always stuck to the feed/nib after these tests. I'm mentioning this because this may account for why the Quink looks different flowing from your Jinhao.

    • @jam4441
      @jam4441 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes all my Jinhao pens have had blue ink tested nibs. So do need to be cleaned first.

      Yes, it seems consistent with the LAMY pens as well.

    I have a Jinhao 82 in black and gold. It has a medium nib that is buttery smooth. It’s on the small side and I have large hands, but with the cap posted, I find it quite comfortable. The nib is just as moist as I like.

      Yes, posted I imagine that to be a comfortable pen size for you. I’m so glad the M nib is perfect for you. The Jinhao 82 offers quite a pleasant experience at an affordable price. Having the converter included is a special bonus. Enjoy! 🖋️♥️

      Awesome! They are very affordable with enclosed converters. I’m going to make another video with the F and EF nib comparison of the set. I do hope yours arrives quickly. These would be pens I could leave at school without worry.

    Great video. These pens are so pretty but I knew I was going to have to save my pennies for a while before investing one so I ordered a pretty pink one from Aliexpress on Jnauary 18th. It arrived today. I'm so glad I waited for the dupe because this pen is never going to work for me; it is WAY too small for my hands. You have quite the collection of pens now...any chance we'll get a collection video soon?

      Also curious if people count the pens they order to test size or shape in their pen counts. 🤔

    • @MarcellHobbs
      @MarcellHobbs  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The pen is surprisingly small if you are not aware of it’s dimensions. I’m so glad you had an affordable test pen. Yes, I have had several requests for a collection video. I will get that organized and post soon. I’ve been focusing on using currently inked pens and getting them flushed and stored in one place which is quite the feat with my home office, everyday Carrie’s, and school pens. Thank you so much for watching!

      I order pens to add to my collection for the aesthetic beauty most of the time, but occasionally (like the Lamy 2000) just to see what all the hype is all about. I do enjoy sharing all finds with others.

    As a Sailor PGS is not in my budget now, would I be better off picking out a Sailor Lecoule or going really frugal with the Jinhao? Marcy, what's your experience with the Sailor Compass writing experience?

    • @MarcellHobbs
      @MarcellHobbs  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I tried the Lecoule months ago, but received a used pen with cartridge inserted so I returned it but never replaced it. I do have and use two of the Sailor Compass pens daily. I enjoy them very much. As a matter of fact, I have a grey Sailor Compass that I will do a giveaway with soon! I need to set it up and announce it. Also, I am going the share the Jinhao 82 set in another video to compare the F and EF nibs. I think they are worth the purchase because they come with the converters. I’m sure the ink would flow better after the converter is inked rather than the dip test I performed with the Sailor PGS pen.

    The dogs made me laugh!!! Great job on the review! Sailor has artistry! It's also engineered with better quality materials. Jinhao... not so much! It's kind of like buying an heirloom you could pass down to your kids or grandkids versus buying something at Target or Walmart - Jinhao's are okay to write with but they will not last in the long run. I will always advise to not go for the "made in China" but save your pennies and buy something that is reliable, tried and true. Just my opinion!😍

    • @MarcellHobbs
      @MarcellHobbs  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Absolute truth about quality. Although I do rotate and take ALL of my pens to work/school with me, there are several inexpensive ones that I do not worry about losing or replacing. I have to be so precious with my high-end pens, but I enjoy using them so much!

      @@MarcellHobbs You are so right!!! I usually keep my expensive ones at home. Brought one to church and almost dropped it in the parking lot! Had a minor heart attack and since then, just kept them home. I usually take my TWSBIs with me wherever I go!

    I bought the X159 jinhao, because everyone was raving about it, but the nib is very dry. I think the tines are too close, so it dry starts and skips. It's also scratchy in certain directions. So the nib has a lot of problems. I'm sure it can be fixed by someone who's experienced with tuning nibs, but I'm new to fountain pens, so I don't have the equipment for it (loupe, micro mesh, mylar, brass shim). Generally speaking, if you get a bad nib, do you return it? Or is it accepted practice to tune it yourself? I got a bad nib on a Platinum Preppy, but Jetpens wants me to film a video of it, and so it's too much of a hassle for an $11 pen.

    • @MarcellHobbs
      @MarcellHobbs  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You should contact the retailer. I’ve heard from others that they send out a new nib. Others replace the pen. It would be up to the retailer. I think many attempt to tune inexpensive nibs on their own as there would not be a great loss and send in expensive nibs to a nibsmith. I do have the x159 but I haven’t used it yet. I do enjoy the smoothness of the nibs on my X450 and x750. I think acquiring brass shims would be the least expensive tool for a fountain pen owner to have on hand. I agree with you on hassle for a Preppy. I’ve had good luck with the two I own as well. I hope you find a satisfactory nib experience soon.

    • @radiofreealbemuth
      @radiofreealbemuth ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MarcellHobbs thanks, I have had satisfactory nib experiences! I actually meant to say Platinum Prefounte, which is technically the same thing as a Preppy. I ordered a Preppyy in Extra Fine and Prefounte in Fine. They're literally the same pens - same nib and same body. The only difference is the cap design and color/labeling. However, the Preppy in Extra Fine writes smoothly, whereas the Prefounte hard starts and skips. I've heard this being an issue with Prefounte. I have no idea why, when they're the same pens as Preppy. Sbrebrown did a Prefounte review, and he had a similar struggle to get the pen to start. I also own three entry level Pilots - a Kakuno Fine, Kakuno Medium, and Penmanship Extra Fine. All of them are smooth writers out of the box. With the jinhao x159, I really like the heft and feel of the pen body. It's just the nib that's deficient. So I was looking to see if there were any pens with a similar pen body (that uses a cartridge), but with a better nib. One of them was the Laban 325, so I've been watching reviews of that to see if it might interest me.

      You can definitely tell the quality in the nib and body of the pen between the Sailor and the Jinhao.
