Wow man, thanks a lot for this! 👍 I'm always very impressed with your wonderful combination of superb technique and total understanding of melody and frasing. It's such a joy listening to you play that I forget to practice myself... 😊
Seems like on a few of these, section five is where I start flinging dirty words around at a pretty rapid pace. Awesome, as usual. Anyone not buying in to learning this way(I'm personally trying to convince a couple friends...), isn't doing it right. Thanks as always.
You do an excellent job in all your videos! It helped me a lot. Youre right, the VH tab book from cherry lane offerered the same upgoing run at the end as you recommended. I tried it a thousand times but finally came up with something what to me SOUNDS a lot more like Eddie. I remembered that his ingredients in his solos are sometimes the same. So I came up with the following run. It works very fine with me. He often used patterns that run on two strings at the same frets, the first string hammer-ons, the other string picked. So I play the ascending lick at the end: E string 8-10-12 (hammer ons), A string the same frets but picked. Then A string 12-14-15 hammer ons and the same on the D string picked. Then the same lick you showed that changes positions 3 times ( on the b- string at 8th fret) is played by me on the g string at 12th fret. Give it a try! It sounds rhythmwise exactly tlike Ed. I think you did a great job anyway. Cheers!
Thanks! You certainly could be right. That section really challenged me because of how it's mixed in the song. I like your way too. Given Ed's propensity to improvise, I'd say you can't get wrong with either LOL :) Thanks again for the nice comment!
By the way, there is a fully guitar live version, will there be a full review of it? I would very much like to try to play this miracle entirely on the guitar)
Amazing video lesson. Thank you. I’ve been playing guitar for over 20 years and this video goes to show that’s there’s always something new to learn, great job. Just subscribed to your channel 🤟🏻🎸
Hey thanks bro! The solo in record was actually Eddie, but I understand where the confusion comes in because in the early days with Sammy, he would take the solo part live so Eddie could focus on the keyboards :)
@@PDXguitarfreak yeah I had seen Sammy playing this solo in a film clip whilst Eddie was on the keys. I thought wow I didn't know Sammy could play that good. It's certainly a beautifully composed solo. Thanks for the lesson.
@@PDXguitarfreak yeah I think now that you mentioned it, that sammy was actually faking the solo in the original recorded film clip. Very convincing though and confusing. Lol
@PDX Love your lessons; absolutely the best on youtube hands down (and your tabs are the only ones I always find to be 100% accurate). Have you considered a vid on Rainbow in the Dark? I think it needs the PDX treatment; can't seem to find any extremely solid tabs on it; I can see you already know it since you have a cover posted :)
Dude, if EVH was still here I would swear he was the one that recorded this video! That was rad! I hate to request a song this way but could you consider doing the solo for “Dreams in the Dark” by Badlands? No one has tackled it on you tube. It needs the guitar freak!!!
Hey Charlie, thanks for the nice comment! I'm not familiar with that tune... I remember Jake's Badlands, but only heard a few tunes. I'll check it out :)
Hey man. I don't know if you did Jane from Jefferson, but if you haven't would enjoy listening your cover. If you did would enjoy a credit aswell. Stay safe.
I noticed you're using a Suhr instead of that beautiful and expensive EVH signature behind you... is that because you had that set to a different tuning or do you actually like the Suhr's tone better or is it something else? Thanks
do you think Eddie thought about major/minor key or modes...etc when he came up with a solo? If he's improvising a tapping run, does he try to hit notes of a certain key or mode or is he just 100% seat of his pants?
Dave...little off topic...check out a YT channel called Johnny B Guitars ...his latest vid is a phone conversation with a guy that new Eddie...its a really cool vid...thought you might get a kick out of it since yur a big VH fan like myself...rock on my brother!!!!
I just heard this solo yesterday! You nailed the stereo chorus sound of that era. Ed's sound these years was so essentially 80s.
Hey Steve! Thanks for the comment on the tone... I actually added that chorus after recording, so I'm glad it worked LOL :)
This was total perfection! 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Thank you Tony :) 🎸
Such a great melodic solo. I had to watch you play it like 5 times just to soak in the Eddie solo greatness 😂😂
This was a great tutorial. Well played!! One of the best lessons I’ve seen.
Love your videos. You nail the solos and teach them perfectly. Great work. Thank you.

Loved the music theory explanation at the end. Some of us do need that.
I was literally just looking for a tutorial on this the other day and was disappointed you didn't have one! Thanks man
I like that you include the theory in it!! Super fun when I get the key right. Feels good haha
Alright your back ! Thanks another great lesson. Pdx evh
Just awesome! You nail every solo. Please consider again doing the 5150 solo. 😃
Thanks to the excellent complete tutorial and authentic performance. First time on youtube, I've been waiting for this. Hello from Russia!

Daaaaave! Hope you're doing well. I'll never be able to play this but enjoyed watching!
How did EVH come up with this stuff unreal. Great job tabing it out.
Yo PDX, I'm still waiting on your video for Megadeth's 'Hangar 18'. It's a daunting task, sure, but I believe in you!! 😉 keep up the great stuff, bro
Very tasty, Dave! Thanks!
nailed it 🎯🎯🎯

Not a fan of this song but I do like the solo.
You play exactly like EVH

perfect!
Awesome! Sounds great bro. Nice job.👍 . When are you going to put together a VH Tribute Band? I would join in a second LOL.😃
Hey Sotirios! Thanks bro! Wouldn't that be fun?! :)
❤❤❤👍👍👍
Hi can you please tell me where you get your straps from? Great channel !
Thanks! Some of my straps (like the Gibsons) came with the guitars, but the majority I just simply bought at local music stores

Something about this solo reminds me so much of Steve Lukather

Hi Ed, the only reason I'm not using the EVH guitar you see is because I keep the EVH tuned 1/2 step down, and this song is in standard tuning. :)
@@PDXguitarfreak thanks… I’m waiting on my signature which is why I asked. I’ve been eyeing Suhr for awhile too.
In the key of EV(H) the H is silent .
:)
