  • Hey guys my name is Masud and in today’s video I discuss what kind of salary you can expect to be on once you’re qualified as a physiotherapist.
    Newly qualified physiotherapists generally start on about £22-26k depending on where you are in the country.
    Expect your pay to be slightly higher if you’re in London as to cover the increased living expenses so looking more towards the £26k mark.
    How much is that in a month after taxes?
    Band 5’s can earn anything from £1500-2000 per calendar month in net take home pay. This depends on how many years exp you have as a band 5 as well.
    As you gain more experience and progress up the pay ladder you can expect to earn around about £31-38k as a band 6.
    Band 7s can earn anything up to £38-44k
    Band 8s generally a lot higher but can be on average about £44-60k.
    I think that’s the highest you can go as a physios in terms of banding but ofcourse physios who work in private practice or have their own business can earn a lot more.
    These figures are all based on 2020/2021 NHS bandings to which I’ve left a link down below if you wanted to check them out.
    www.nhsemploye...
    Hope this helps you out.
    Thanks for watching!!

    Very helpful video Masud, thank you.
    Can you enlighten us about asking pay rise also ( not talking about NHS ) ? When would be the best time to ask for it ? After a year or more maybe ? Would be appropriate to say the amount of pay rise ? You've got the point anyway :)
    Keep making PT videos thumbs up.

    • @masudsaeediphysiotherapy8689
      @masudsaeediphysiotherapy8689  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey there, I would say after a year should be a reasonable time. Usually you’d have to have passed your probation at 6 months so 1 year is fine.
      Best time is dependent on the company you’re with as some companies like to increase the salary around the end of tax year (April in the U.K.) and others may have their own policies around salary increases.
      Thank you

    Thanks for the videos really helpful. How quickly can you realistically move up within the bands or go up a band? I’m thinking if re-skimming and I’m 37 years old so would be early 40’s till I graduate so not sure if I’d have enough time to progress. Also, can you be a physiotherapist up to retirement age, is it physically too demanding?

    • @masudsaeediphysiotherapy8689
      @masudsaeediphysiotherapy8689  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey Amanda, thats a good question. Realistically I’d say the earliest is 2 years to move from a band 5-6 and then another 2-3 years to band 7 .. you can definitely do it.
      Just depends on your ability, confidence as a practitioner and how much you’re willing to work on your skills.
      I had people on my course nearing 50 so I think you’ll be fine.
      Yes you can be a physio all the way to retirement age and above if you choose to and able to practice safely still.
      ‘Is it too physically demanding?’ - It depends on which area of physio you’re in as they all require you to be hands on in some form weather that’s helping to mobilise a patient for a walk, assessing limb power and range of motion or just completing manual therapy.
      As long as you keep yourself physically fit you will be ok ✅

    great video, thanks! I was just wondering how you move up the pay bands is it purely by just gaining more experience? If you had another degree such as a post-grad physician associate, would that make you be on a higher band? And my other question is how to you specialise as a physio - do you do an extra course? Or does that happen at uni?
    Sorry that's so many questions 😐 but any answers would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

      Hey Georgie, I’ve made a video to answer your first question here: th-cam.com/video/MoC4QOOEluU/w-d-xo.html
      People generally ‘specialise’ by getting a static role usually as a band 6 in one area. This is after you have completed your studies and worked a couple of years.
