    Crazy ...looking through the parts-fiche for that bike, that part does NOT belong in the fuel tank at all. ...no idea what it is!

      I'm thinking it's part of the fuel vapor emissions system, and it was connected to pipe on the underside of the well the fuel cap sits in. Maybe broke off from vibration.

      @@moto.squish Without giving it away...I will say this...it is the reason the bike stopped working for previous owner. He had the tank off and drained, but he must not have ever moved it the right way to get it to slide around inside and make noise.
