Top Items to Carry in Your Motorcycle Tank Bag

What should you take on a weekend motorcycle trip? Here is a look at what I carry in my tank bag. This is what I take for a regular, street only type of riding weekend, no dirt roads, and no camping. So if camping is involved there will be many other items. I prefer to not have the weight on my shoulders so I carry my water bladder, snacks and some other important items in a tank bag. As a new rider myself and being an avid gym enthusiast I can say for certain riding is tiring! After a 40 minute ride to work my first few times out I was tired as hell, my calves and quads were sore and my chest and shoulders felt it, it takes a bit of endurance and strength to ride until you're used to it, great video!

      I don't know. Sounds like your bike doesn't fit you at all. What are you riding, some goofy harley with ape hangers and forward controls? Maybe a crotch rocket with clip ons? I ride for hundreds of miles and never have calf, quad, chest or shoulder pain. Just my butt.

    I ride in Central Florida. In the summer it can get to be 100 degrees with 100% humidity so evaporation cooling doesn't work. My solution is a mesh jacket with reusable Freezer packs in the breast pockets. They are good for about an hour ride which lasts until I get to work. Then I put them in the Freezer. I work for a restaurant so that's no big deal. Then I'm good to go when I ride home. Just a thought. If it works for you Great.

    In July the heatwave here in Spain was in full swing with temperatures around 40° to 45°C. I rode 4 hours to a hotel feeling a little off during the final half hour. I had made stops to drink on the way. I parked my bike at my destination feeling very strange with some of the heat stroke symptoms described. The next thing was a man was giving me water as I was out cold lying on the concrete. I poured the bottle of very cold water over my head and immediately recovered enough sort myself out. I appreciate very much the advice given here to avoid a recurrence. I will add that cooling the head is as important as the body once symptoms have started as this quickly helps recovery. Thanks for the video.👍

Would also recommend a tire puncture plug kit (or patches), an assortment of fuses, a small bottle of Rain-X, a few folded paper towels, and a couple of static cleaning cloths (must be from Costco because they're the only ones that actually work!).

    First time on the back of a bike in 30 years and my hips and hip flexors were in agony, I'm worried for when I take my test if my hip area will need strength work, any advice?

    • @moniquefilips1000
      @moniquefilips1000 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds like your hip flexors were working too hard. You need to work on your glutes!! As we get older that gets weaker (especially glute medius) and our hip flexors get tighter. I would recommend Pilates. It really helps balance us out. Until then standing hip extension, supine hip ext, and stretch the front of your hip and quad.

    Great job and great advise to other riders about taking a class every year. Did the officers instruct on the use of the clutch and rear break to control your speed not the throttle and instruct maintaining an RPM of anywhere from 1800-2500 RPM's? It's great to see they offer this class for free and to see such a great turnout for this training. These skills WILL save a riders life. Practice these slow speed skills regularly. Best way to make these skills a natural response is to practice something every time you get on your bike. The state I live in, the advanced training is not free and the instructors themselves are lacking skills. They do not have motor officers in my state and even if they did, nothing is ever free here. Even is it cost a few dollars the classes are well worth it to train in an environment where you might feel pressured so you become used to it. I am 56 years old and began riding motorcycle when I was in my early teen years. Never took a riding course in my life until a year ago just to see what it was about. I enjoyed the class and had opportunity to share my skills with others. I still practice the slow speed skills as well as the high speed skills and road strategies every day. Many times in all my years of riding these slow speed skills have saved my life. It is imperative to learn and be comfortable with the maximum lean angle of your bike. To know where your max lean angle is without thinking about it will save your life in a high speed swerve to avoid an oncoming vehicle or animal, something in the road or something flying out of a truck or off a vehicle or even a pot hole in the road. A rider must also learn and understand emergency braking in a corner and how to skillfully and safely apply this skill at all speeds. There are a few great guys on TH-cam that encourage these skill and give great tips for perfecting them. Kevin at MCrider teaches a lot on road skills and road strategies. th-cam.com/users/motorman857 th-cam.com/users/RobertSimmonsPayingItForward th-cam.com/users/MCrider Two thumbs up to all riders, no matter their skill level who take the time to participate in the training classes offered.

    >Your spot on Monique Filips!!! >I used that same vest to ride through the Mojave Desert. I used it in combination with my webbed outer shell that has all the padding and wore a cotton t-shirt. The web jacket slows the air down and the cotton t-shirt keeps the water in contact with your skin. Water in the vest lasts up to an hour and a half. Highly recommended. >I started out using the a poor mans approach for evaporative cooling. Use the motorcycle jacket webbed outer shell, cotton t-shirt(s) and a camelback. Then dribble water down my front as I rode as needed. The water wicks out into the t-shirt (cotton is great for this) and the evaporation of the water just pulls the heat right from your body because the wet t-shirts have intimate contact with your skin. The advantage of this is you control the amount of water flow. Just carry extra water with you and gage the timing of water consumption. >The vest is a step above the poor mans approach.
