I think one major problem is actually what happened when Dragon Tales was getting almost Arthur numbers...as Emotional Devolopment+Spanish Culture and Language being taught naturally with the kids automatically translating to the viewer without saying "this means" was an extremely rare combination. There were only 26 new Enrique adventures in 13 episodes of a typical 26 episode season which would have made the count 52. Sure they gave a lot of attention to Enrique, but not as much as they could have. I mean sure Max is the overall protagonist, Emmy the deuteragonist and Enrique the tritagonist but they could have made a few more episodes at least that involved Enrique somehow and brought the count up to an even 100. For instance they could have had Enrique get a solo adventure twice for some reason (like Max and Emmy are on vacation and his family is house sitting/possibly sick), and have Enrique get a few adventures with just Emmy (because they clearly were crushing on each other and held hands a few times) and a few adventures with just Max so they could do bro stuff...and finally just before the ending...they could have had Emmy get her own solo adventure set and one last solo adventure for Max...because the Max solo adventures really wound up turning out being the most interesting. Another issue? Several other shows went on a tad too long or didn't get renewed when need be. Arthur should have stopped in 2016. Barney should have stopped in 2000. Zoom and Fetch stopped at the right time. Cyberchase is still going, but they should stop it soon by finally curing Motherboard. Reading Rainbow got canned for an understandable reason, but could have had a few more years. Sesame Street should have ended at season 35. PBS also had an issue when they decided to make their three PBS Kids movies from 1998-2000. In the Barney movie...no kids from the show were used. Sure it's nice having a more serious plot, but it needed the kids from the show at the time to really make it work...like maybe Chip, Linda, Keesha, Robert, Curtis, Emily, Kim and Stephen could have all been present for this since they were the main kids at the time. The Shining Time Station movie was too late despite plans for earlier than it was, it should have been in the early 90's, and finally the Elmo in Grouchland should have been deemed a no go because Sesame Street already had a movie with "Follow that Bird"...what really should have been picked at that time should have used an ABC rule. They had the B part already, but it could have been modified it to use the show kids and have them sing the theme song to bring Barney to life...that probably would have helped. For A? This is where Arthur's Missing Pal should have been released and in theatrical 2d instead of early CGI. For C? They or Fox probably could have pulled a Carmen movie off.
Dude, I LOVED watching PBS Kids when I was a kid and admittedly preteen and young teen!!! My favorite shows were DragonTales, Zoboomafoo, Arthur, Clifford the Big Red Dog, Between the Lions, etc. I also adored its sister channel PBS Kids Sprout!!!!!!
Thank you for making this video! I remember watching Zoboomafoo, Dragon Tails, Word Girl, and Curious George on this network everyday after coming home from school. Good times and tbh I can remember distinctly the exact Chuck E. Cheese commercial that played all the time 😂
Coming home from school to watch Curious George and The Berenstain Bears while eating lunch will forever be one of my most favorite memories! Back when things were so simple 😔💖
PBS Kids brings a lot of memories of my childhood. Shows like Dragon Tales, Cyberchase, Between the Lions, Wishbone, ect are some of them that really defined my early years and went through most of my teen years here and there. The shows had a sense of quality and teaching purposes that sadly you barely see today.
Man, I grew up in PBS kids. I remember watching Arthur, Dragon tales, Fetch, Dinosaurs train, Wild Kratts, and many more. I go back every once in a while to see the new show or rewatch an old episode. I hope they find a way to adapt to the current market of entertainment.
As a former poor kid with parents who couldnt afford cable. This channel was everything. Between the Lions, Zoboomafoo, Dragontales and Sagwa, the Chinese Cat will always be some of the best stuff I watched.
ELECTRIC COMPANYYY mention! That show brings back the last time that my Dad was in good health prior to his passing. I'll never forget LMM singing Silent E with Shickwave
I still love PBS Kids to this very day because like The afromentioned big three (Nick, CN and Disney), it made my childhood. I admit I was more of a Nick and CN fan back then, but I still have awesome nostalgia and memories of the channel. So many great shows. My favorite shows are still Arthur, Magic School Bus and Cyberchase. Good times. 😂😂😂😂
Man does anyone remember George Shrinks? About a boy who was like the size of an ant or something? Great show! Zoom, zooboomafu, dragon tales, Arthur, between the lions, all bangers! Kids raised by PBS truly learned great values and knowledge from these shows. I’m sure majority turned out to be great people because of the impact of this station
Love this video. It is nice to remember all these great shows. I used to watch wordgirl, ruffruffman, and miguel and maya, and other shows. I hold the pbs kids shows on the same caliber as nick and disney.
I grew up watching Wild Kratts, Arthur, Daniel Tiger, Odd squad, and Molly of Denali(I was older when it came out but I still watched it) and Cyberchase. PBS was quite literally my childhood. 😊
So sad kids today won’t have the free quality educational tv we had growing up. PBS kids was a vital, essential part of my childhood. It was my escape to see what healthy family and community looked like. So sad to watch it all go downhill.
When I was little, I was glad to grow up with sesame street, Arthur, Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood, Dinosaur Train, Super Why, Word Girl, Wild Kratts, and Odd Squad. I'm grateful Cocomelon and TH-cam Kids didn't exist in 2007-2014 😅
I remember this station! When I was a kid, we didn’t have Disney Channel, Nick or Cartoon Network (oddly enough, I remember watching Teen Titans with my dad), so I watched this. The memories of watching Arthur, Sesame Street, Fetch with Ruff Ruff Man, Word Girl, Super Why, Dinosaur Train, Cyberchase and even some Cat in the Hat just flooded my mind. I still remember the apartment we used to live in while watching Elmo’s World. I feel like I’m a kid again. Doc Brown as Hacker will never leave my mind.

Wild Kratts and Martha Speaks were the shows we watched almost everyday for 7 years. We watched a few others, but Martha Speaks and Wild Kratts were our favorties.
Arthur, Zoboomafoo, Maya & Miguel, Cyberchase, and FETCH! With Ruff Ruffman will always have a place in my heart. I didn’t have cable growing up so PBS Kids was my childhood!

I had no cable but I didn't care, pbs raised me right! They made bangers such as the electric company, arthur and ruffman! I really liked the shows for older kids which was Pbs Kids Go! RIP, You will be missed ;(
I worked for PBS as one of their fundraisers for some time. It was a good carry over job that put some good titles on my resume but it sounds like I left at the right time.
I love PBS kids so much! Simply beautiful! Well done on this fantastic retrospective. I’m still a classic Barney fan at heart! I also love Clifford, Arthur, Cyberchase, Fetch with Ruff Ruffman, and Between the Lions!
I remember watching PBS Kids up through middle school before school. Nature Cat and Arthur are truly the bomb. The Clifford reboot was disappointing though. Another memory of PBS Kids I have is Kart Kingdom. Man, I used to spend hours just goofing off in that game. I’m sure many developed friendships in that game, as did I. It’s a shame it shut down four years ago.
Hello. Good morning. My name is Brian López. I love Cyberchase, too. What is your favorite Cyberchase episode? Please let me know in the comments down below.
Zoom was like the peak of PBS Kids honestly. I feel sorry for anyone who never got to experience the joy of watching Zoom after getting home from school. What a time to be alive.
I loved PBS Kids so much growing up. I remember racing off the school bus in elementary school so that I could catch Wild Kratts in time. The shows they aired taught me everything, from my love of animals, negative numbers (Cyberchase my beloved) and even teamwork (Fetch! With Ruff Ruffman). Its always sad to hear that a channel that raised me isnt like it used to be, but I hope that the shows I loved can continue to teach children despite the changes.
Surprised this showed up on my timeline but I welcome it! I tuned in a ton to Arthur, Clifford, and Dragon Tales back in the day. Though as strange as this may sound, I was also a big fan of the Dash and Dot bumpers back in early 2000s. Something about them just had this funny little charm to them. Was glad to see some edited in for visual footage!
I guess long story short, PBS Kids was a network that was on top of the children's education mountain at one point before it's competition, Noggin and Sprout, threw them off and tried to replicate their success, only temporarily. Now, there really isn't any problem with PBS Kids outside of bad decisions, it's just that its popularity wouldn't last once other channels came in with better tactics and financial decisions.
@@JuanGomez-ke5py The answer lies in the taxes. Of course, the other common pitfall for kids' TV is to pair a toyetic show with related toy ads and commit advertising guideline violations, Sinclair Broadcast group getting heavily fined for placing Hot Wheels commercials around a Team Hot Wheels special being a recent example.
Honestly i grew up with PBS Kids in my life, i had good memories with most of the shows I've watched. Though it's sad to see like this state right now.
My parents refused to pay for cable so PBS was about the best we got. We got an upgrade when we started getting CBC Kids from Canada and that was a TREAT
Hello. Good afternoon. My name is Brian López. What is your favorite The Adventures of Napkin Man! episode of all time? Please let me know in the comments down below.
PBS Kids was my childhood back then and I grew up with so many memories from shows like arthur, cyberchase, dragon tales, zoboomafoo, wordgirl, clifford the big red dog, barney etc. You name it. They were all great and enjoyable!
PBS Kids is still iconic and BIG American TV lore oh man I totally loved Seamse Street, Between the Lions, Wishbone, Bill Nye the Science Guy, Lamb Chops, Kidsongs, Kratts Creatures, The Magic School Bus and totally Arthur back in the 90's and early 00s.
PBS Kids was my main cable TV childhood growing up! My all-time favorite shows on that channel are Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends (obviously), Cyberchase, Sesame Street, Mr. Roger's Neighborhood, Dragon Tales, Clifford the Big Red Dog, Maya & Miguel, Reading Rainbow and Fetch w/ Ruffman. And even though I never saw the other few shows that aired on that channel and only seeing them via home media or on YT, but I also love watching Shining Time Station (that vessel Thomas to the States), Theodore Tugboat and The Magic School Bus! It's a shame that alongside Cartoon Network, PBS Kids would decline from removing their Classic shows to being demoted b/c of corporate meddling companies and such. BTW, what are your thoughts on PBS Retro on Roku? I know they're re-airing other shows like the model airings of Thomas and a few others.
Maya and Miguel is like a repressed memory for me. Like I’ll just be reminded of it’s existence and flash back to watching it for hours when I was like 5
I was born in the P-Pals era of PBS Kids, and considered "Barney & Friends" and "Magic School Bus" my most watched PBS shows at the time, along with Lamb Chop's Play-Along, Shining Time Station & "Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego?" on occasions.
Thomas & Friends, Arthur, WordGirl, Martha Speaks, Fetch With Ruff Ruffman, Cyberchase, and Wild Kratts were the sh*t. It's crazy that Cyberchase is still going, though. The first few seasons were great, but even as a kid, I felt like it became kind of mid when the flash animation era began. It's also unfortunate that Gilbert Gottfried died and wasn't able to voice Digit to the end... if there ever IS an end, that is

I love these breakdowns! It's a shame the network and content couldn't stay in a non-streaming, centralized place, though. Side note: I love love love the bumper animations. As a kid, I loved how fun and fluid they were. So cute. ❤😆

As a PBS Kids aficionado I am very qualified to make the following statement: it rocked. It was like a friend that never shamed me, bullied me or judged me when I was little. I could just hang out with Martha or WordGirl or the dinosaurs on Dinosaur Train. I could be hyperfixated on what I liked while also enjoying things that were different. Shaped my love of reading, writing, and art for sure. Thanks PBS! 💚🖤
I was a kid in the 200s-2010s who grew up with pbs in the summer my grandma would put it on with my siblings when we were playing and other activities recently I came over their to watch my cousins and when they turned on that channel I slowly thought damn what happened to my childhood

Remember that rumor that spread around the early internet about Fred Rogers being in the military? Let’s be honest here, he didn’t NEED to be in the military to be badass. His words came from a wholesome place, but they always cut through hateful rhetoric like a knife through butter. That’s why he made so much of an impact.
I grew up on PBS and watched regularly up until I was 8 or 9 (2004, always tuned in to Arthur) then occasionally up until 2008 while my younger sister was a toddler. Now, I am a father to a 6 yr old son now and have been watching PBS Kids with him for some years now. I don't think there was ever really a "fall"; the channel is just different and aimed to a new generation far removed from mine or any of ours who are pushing 30 or already in their 30's. Some of my favorite new shows have been Wild Kratts, Let's Go Luna and Molly of Denali. Notable mention because it starting airing in the time period I was not watching: Nature Cat (especially since I am an SNL fan in my adult years haha). It is still a wholesome and educational channel with lots to go around. (I'm curious about Alma's Way, haven't seen much of it yet. I want to give it the benefit as I'm hispanic and seems like a newer take on Maya and Miguel from my childhood).
Hello. Good morning. My name is Brian López. What is your favorite part from the Nature Cat episode, "Moth Frolic-Fest", the one about moths? Please let me know in the comments down below.
PBS Kids had the best shows! The only time I saw cable shows was when I'd visit other family members, but no one else had consistently better shows for kids for as long as they did (we don't talk about Bald Brat and Creepy Purple Carnivore).
PBS will always have a special place in my heart, for most of us this was our educational programming before the luxury of TH-cam and was kind of like a “start” before you got into Nickelodeon and Disney definitely since back in the 90s and early 2000s, cable truly was a luxury and it was common for many families to not have it at all. For me, I was one of families who didn’t always have cable and spent hours watching PBS until I was about 6 years old.
Really enjoyed this video!! W Collab! I have so much nostalgia with PBS Kids. Such a shame how PBS Kids AND Reading Rainbow got done 💔 Also, shoutout to Chick-Fil-A 🔥🔥 I remember them sponsoring Between the Lions!
Watched PBS kids on channel 25 wviz pbs ideastream . Grew up with Arthur, Sesame Street, big comfy couch, mr rogers , Clifford, Maya and Miguel, between the lions and dragon tales.. then other shows came along like Martha speaks , curious George , and super why also Word Girl
Growing up my family was always striving for cash, meaning we clearly didn't have enough money for cable. The only time I got to watch cable was either at a friend's house, my aunt and uncle's place, or both grandparents' houses. So anytime I was at home the only stations we got were the local ones, inculding PBS, but there were specific blocks that PBS kids was on. I knew for a fact that pbs kids ended every weekday after the 4:30 pm show, which ever one that was, after that it was all adult stuff, and on weekends my siblings and I would either watch 4kids or ABC's Dinsey block where we got a chance to see shows that were normally only aired on Disney channel on cable. While we didn't have a lot of money and the only consoles we ever got were hand-me-downs we still found ways to enjoy our childhood

RIP Fred Rogers!

I can , without a doubt, trace any kidness decency or humanity within me to the teaching of Mr. Rogers . That man is in my heart .
No Child Left Behind has impacted this country sooooo much, I appreciate your integration of the topic. It’s all connected.
PBS Kids for me as a child of immigrants is what taught me English and how to read. I loved watching shows like super why and Word World.
I knew that voice sounded familiar! Kudos to getting Matt “The DW Destroyer” on!
Rest in peace.
@@TehPlaylistSpartan thank you
Silent E IS a ninja.
Bro, the UN-MUFFIN EPISODE?! GGGAAAAAAAAAAASSSS!!!
Good times. 😂😂😂😂
PBS Kids used to make some great children shows that definitely had an impact on me growing up. Now there's rarely any shows like that anymore.
I thought I was the only one who remembered George Shrink.
I only remember ads for that show
Love this video. It is nice to remember all these great shows. I used to watch wordgirl, ruffruffman, and miguel and maya, and other shows. I hold the pbs kids shows on the same caliber as nick and disney.
Man, pbs kids, a blast from the past. Some of my core memories was watching it while my mom napped lol.
The sheer amount of nostalgia I’m getting from the footage alone feels like a punch to the face.
I’m really thankful to pbs kids. We were so broke, couldn’t afford cable and this was the only free kids channel
The channel still exists, but nobody's really caring about it now.
When I was little, I was glad to grow up with sesame street, Arthur, Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood, Dinosaur Train, Super Why, Word Girl, Wild Kratts, and Odd Squad. I'm grateful Cocomelon and TH-cam Kids didn't exist in 2007-2014 😅
Shows I watched the most on PBS Kids as a kid: Thomas & Friends, Bob the Builder, Barney
Thomas and between the lions were lit
@@theshenparteithen Mattel Came along and ruin All of them!
awe pbs was my childhood, frannys feet was my favorite besides arthur or barney
Hello. Good morning. My name is Brian López. So, do you like The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That! episode, "Water Walkers", the one about water striders? Please let me know in the comments down below.
PBS kids was the channel that made you convinced you’d rather be outside
Wild Kratts and Martha Speaks were the shows we watched almost everyday for 7 years. We watched a few others, but Martha Speaks and Wild Kratts were our favorties.
Between the Lions, Dragon Tales, and Clifford were some of my favorites way back when, and still are today.
Arthur, Zoboomafoo, Maya & Miguel, Cyberchase, and FETCH! With Ruff Ruffman will always have a place in my heart. I didn’t have cable growing up so PBS Kids was my childhood!
Hello. Good morning. My name is Brian López. Do you like the Cyberchase episode, "Jimaya Jam", the one where ghosts challenge the CyberSquad to a game of basketball? Yes or no? Please let me know in the comments down below.
This video unlocked memories of shows that I had forgotten existed. Those shows make up about 75% of what was featured in this video
I remember playing Kart Kingdom! That was so fun
Was hoping to find a comment mentionng it
Matt Neff had sent me here! What a great video; can’t wait to see the rest of your amazing stuff!
Aye, you got Matt Neff. Im all for this.
Yeah Matt watches the channel.

I think about the show Cyberchase at least once a month. It was absolutely my favorite show. Plus the online games were so fun.
I only knew about Zoom from the Arthur segment on it.
It was a good day when your teacher lets you watch pbs kids when you finish your work
I guess long story short, PBS Kids was a network that was on top of the children's education mountain at one point before it's competition, Noggin and Sprout, threw them off and tried to replicate their success, only temporarily. Now, there really isn't any problem with PBS Kids outside of bad decisions, it's just that its popularity wouldn't last once other channels came in with better tactics and financial decisions.
Some somehow they survive
Cyberchase, George Shrinks, Fetch, and Arthur were amazing.😊
PBS Kids is still iconic and BIG American TV lore oh man I totally loved Seamse Street, Between the Lions, Wishbone, Bill Nye the Science Guy, Lamb Chops, Kidsongs, Kratts Creatures, The Magic School Bus and totally Arthur back in the 90's and early 00s.
Hello. Good morning. My name is Brian López. I don't like Bill Nye the Science Guy at all.
I still have nostalgia for PBS Kids, so it was nice watching while it lasted.
PBS Kids being on Roku only means that TV Cable will one day end.
I’m so glad my son likes to watch pbs kids it was one of my favorites and still watch it for comfort when I’m about to have a breakdown
Good collab!!
Very much agreed. Lot of good research here.
5:17 core memory unlocked
PBS and Qubo were a tv haven for the non cable kids.
It's also unfortunate that Gilbert Gottfried died and wasn't able to voice Digit to the end... if there ever IS an end, that is
I think that "Cyberchase" went on hiatus for a while, though, so it has not run continuously.
@@douglasandrews8977 Hello. Good morning. My name is Brian López. What is your favorite Cyberchase episode? Please let me know in the comments down below.
I love these breakdowns!
It's a shame the network and content couldn't stay in a non-streaming, centralized place, though.
Side note: I love love love the bumper animations. As a kid, I loved how fun and fluid they were. So cute. ❤😆
Roku did have a exclusive channel airing reruns of older PBS Kids shows called PBS Retro.
My favorite show on PBS KIDS was Liberty's Kids even though I was born six years after it first came out. I didn't even know it was on PBS KIDS until I searched it up online . . . .
Great video. I loved PBS kids back in the day
Matt sent me! Such an informative video I loved it!
I remember watching wild kratts, nature Cat and many more love pbs kids

Remember that rumor that spread around the early internet about Fred Rogers being in the military?
Let’s be honest here, he didn’t NEED to be in the military to be badass. His words came from a wholesome place, but they always cut through hateful rhetoric like a knife through butter. That’s why he made so much of an impact.
Yeah, it's a shame he left us so soon. But parts of him will definitely stay with us until it's our turn.
Such a shame how PBS Kids AND Reading Rainbow got done 💔
Also, shoutout to Chick-Fil-A 🔥🔥

While we didn't have a lot of money and the only consoles we ever got were hand-me-downs we still found ways to enjoy our childhood
knew i was gonna love this video when the "illuminating television" light bulb popped up
