It was very hard for me to watch as well. And I know the general gist of everything in touhou (played all the mainlines shmups) and even read some of the manga and books. Especially the last games are very confusing. I also put the video on 0.75 speed or it would have been too hard to understand. Go play the games, read some lore and then come back and you will get 70% of what was said in this video😂
All I could ever grasp was: "Hey, that's a Girl showing up in Bad Apple!". But so many names, I still have no idea what was going on. Besides the fact that like 99% of those girls just do fights to the death out of boredom.

Unless some real insane stuff happens in the next few years, since Touhou runs analogously with real life time, Sumireko is most definitely an ancestor.

Satori's premonition ended up being true because the sage Okina appears in HSiFS

Sumireko who is working with Rinnosuke also notice the cards Rinnosuke (who has the ability to know the name and Utility of tools) touched a card while restocking and "felt an undescribable terror" Sumireko got curious and says "This is what Reimucchi would call an incident, right? As a newcomer trying to learn about Touhou canon before jumping into the fanon, this is a great video that explains a lot of stuff like the lore that I wasn't able to pick up during gameplay.

Wait, I thought that Sanae didn't want the Shrine to close down, but rather suggested Reimu to close her business down, so the Hakurei Shrine can be taken under the influence of the Moriya Shrine. That happened specifically because Sanae feared, that if Reimu doesn't take her job seriously, her Shrine loses values and turns itself into a dusty and useless house. It also supports the fact, that Sanae asks Reimu ,,If she has been thinking about it". Also if Kanako Is true with Sanae being a good Girl, it would make sense that she just wanted to offer her with good intentions.

I don't think he's calling Youmu herself indecisive. It's the otter spirit that's possessing her that's making her that way. And the reason why it's believed she didn't participate in the incident is probably because there isn't much information about her involvement currently. There are two instances of Reimu being directly involved and solving the incident and Marisa states that Saki has taken a liking to her which implies she was at least involved in the extra stage. But for Youmu there isn't much proof of her involvement.

There is basically just as much information about Youmu's involvements in incidents as there is for other characters like Sakuya and Sanae, yet this video arbitrarily acts like Youmu is the only one that is "not canon" and such. Furthermore, there IS proof of Youmu participating in incidents, the omakes and such directly states that Youmu (and other characters) participates in incidents. Youmu is canon and implying otherwise is wrong.

The amount of dedication to play all the games (including the fighting games) and go through all physical Touhou material is astounding. This is evident from how the latter two are described as being from the future, them also being college students while Sumireko is a high schooler, and the Secret Sealing Club being reportedly created in their college by Renko.

Renko and Maribel exist in the far flung future of the touhou universe, and are university students where as Sumireko is a highschooler.
To think that this is "just" the summary.. I think the hours I've spent actually playing / reading all forms of official and doujin Touhou content go in the thousands and the whole journey is still mindboggling to me. And I learned Japanese somewhere along the way. Truely the franchise that formed a major part of my life. Now it's already nostalgically dear to me. Thanks for compiling this, so I don't have to :D
In most video game series, you can just look up a full playthrough/all cutscenes video of a game. You can not do that with Touhou. Lunatic 1cc's are the closest thing to a full playthrough and they are uploaded EXCLUSIVELY for the purpose of showing off skill. They will skip through cutscenes so quick as to make them unreadable as they are not the focus of the video, and that's assuming they're even playing in English, which they usually aren't. There is a wiki and it is very good having written translated transcripts of every single cutscene in every single official game and a surprising amount of fangames, along with links to download the English patches, but many people may not be aware of the existence/usefulness of the wiki. Their are some English videos explaining Touhou lore but they're usually just that, lore, not the plotlines of these games. Basically, there is no way to know the story of an individual Touhou game without playing it yourself and downloading an obscure link unless you go to a site you may not even know exist because there are very few English speaking lore fans on the Internet. This video takes every window era game, including spinoffs and manga, and functionally summarizes what their stories leaving little to no ambiguity on what is or isn't cannon by not even mentioning the choices that aren't Cannon. This comes with some problems, like without the context of the choice between legacy and pointdevice in lolk the fact that they are offered a potion of what is affectively immortality but better and they just deny it and it never gets brought up again is... odd, but other than minor things like that this is an amazing comprehensive video that allows you to experience the underrated narratives of Touhou project in a very accessible way. PS: PCB is my personal favorite with IN being a close second. I wouldn't have been able to experience either of them without this video. Thank you :)

I know 6-8 have characters that endure greatly with the fandom, but to me it all truly gets to be fascinating once you reach 10. We go from fighting Dracula, restoring a missing season, and dealing with a false moon to Fighting over Faith like it's currency Fight over installing a nuclear reactor/tricking a bird to become effectively an atomic bomb Dealing with UFOs and conspiracies with a Buddhist temple Whatever the hell Ten Desires was Fighting mythical creatures due to the fabric of the world being turned upside down Stopping an invasion from the moon seeking refuge from an angry mother and her friend the literal devil Attempting to stop a God who simply wanted to flex her influence/power by taking the four seasons hostage Allying with hellish animal spirits to stop clay spirits who were overtaking their domain The fact that ZUN gets to all this through simple drinking makes me wonder what a series of drugs would produce, because this all sounds incoherent on paper, but he manages to stitch it all together to make something akin to Ultima 1. Where you have a medieval world with basic swords, crossbows, and maces that has Blaster Rifles, Hovercars, Space Shuttlers, Tie Fighters, and the International Space Station just hanging around as some jarring contrast that is so absurd it sort of works
This is a really good video man! I focused on trying to piece th1-5 to 6 more than the recent ones so this really helped me learn more about the recent parts of the big narrative

1:59:09 Although there's no hard evidence for the placement of Foul Detective Satori, Chapter 44 in Lotus Eaters seemingly happens at the same time as FDS. In that chapter, Orin appears in the human village tells Aya that she's on an investigation on behalf of Satori's orders. Aya asks if she is after the vengeful spirit, and Orin says that the spirit could plunge the village into darkness. It's a vague connection though, as it only kinda fits with with the beginning of the 4th arc of FDS. Also if this is the case then the incident of FDS and UDoALG basically happen back-to-back, which is kinda weird. It's kind of like the Bougetsushou series, which is thought to have happened mostly after Mountain of Faith but the events are not well supported in other Touhou media, even though it's supposed to be a big deal.

As a newcomer trying to learn about Touhou canon before jumping into the fanon, this is a great video that explains a lot of stuff like the lore that I wasn't able to pick up during gameplay.

theres fanon lore of everyone, but the ones that are most common ones are that some people are horrendous perverts or incredibly childish
if you look up characters in the touhou wiki, there's a small section that leads you to any notable fandom lore of the character

Wait, I thought that Sanae didn't want the Shrine to close down, but rather suggested Reimu to close her business down, so the Hakurei Shrine can be taken under the influence of the Moriya Shrine.
That happened specifically because Sanae feared, that if Reimu doesn't take her job seriously, her Shrine loses values and turns itself into a dusty and useless house. It also supports the fact, that Sanae asks Reimu ,,If she has been thinking about it".
Also if Kanako Is true with Sanae being a good Girl, it would make sense that she just wanted to offer her with good intentions.

I don't think he's calling Youmu herself indecisive. It's the otter spirit that's possessing her that's making her that way.
And the reason why it's believed she didn't participate in the incident is probably because there isn't much information about her involvement currently. There are two instances of Reimu being directly involved and solving the incident and Marisa states that Saki has taken a liking to her which implies she was at least involved in the extra stage.
But for Youmu there isn't much proof of her involvement.

There is basically just as much information about Youmu's involvements in incidents as there is for other characters like Sakuya and Sanae, yet this video arbitrarily acts like Youmu is the only one that is "not canon" and such. Furthermore, there IS proof of Youmu participating in incidents, the omakes and such directly states that Youmu (and other characters) participates in incidents.
Youmu is canon and implying otherwise is wrong.

This is evident from how the latter two are described as being from the future, them also being college students while Sumireko is a high schooler, and the Secret Sealing Club being reportedly created in their college by Renko.
As a non-Touhou watcher, it feels like 10.5 was just a unnecessarily large amount of unnecessary fights

I think the hours I've spent actually playing / reading all forms of official and doujin Touhou content go in the thousands and the whole journey is still mindboggling to me. And I learned Japanese somewhere along the way. Truely the franchise that formed a major part of my life. Now it's already nostalgically dear to me. Thanks for compiling this, so I don't have to :D
In most video game series, you can just look up a full playthrough/all cutscenes video of a game. You can not do that with Touhou. Lunatic 1cc's are the closest thing to a full playthrough and they are uploaded EXCLUSIVELY for the purpose of showing off skill. They will skip through cutscenes so quick as to make them unreadable as they are not the focus of the video, and that's assuming they're even playing in English, which they usually aren't. There is a wiki and it is very good having written translated transcripts of every single cutscene in every single official game and a surprising amount of fangames, along with links to download the English patches, but many people may not be aware of the existence/usefulness of the wiki. Their are some English videos explaining Touhou lore but they're usually just that, lore, not the plotlines of these games. Basically, there is no way to know the story of an individual Touhou game without playing it yourself and downloading an obscure link unless you go to a site you may not even know exist because there are very few English speaking lore fans on the Internet. This video takes every window era game, including spinoffs and manga, and functionally summarizes what their stories leaving little to no ambiguity on what is or isn't cannon by not even mentioning the choices that aren't Cannon. This comes with some problems, like without the context of the choice between legacy and pointdevice in lolk the fact that they are offered a potion of what is affectively immortality but better and they just deny it and it never gets brought up again is... odd, but other than minor things like that this is an amazing comprehensive video that allows you to experience the underrated narratives of Touhou project in a very accessible way.
PS: PCB is my personal favorite with IN being a close second. I wouldn't have been able to experience either of them without this video. Thank you :)

Fighting over Faith like it's currency
Fight over installing a nuclear reactor/tricking a bird to become effectively an atomic bomb
Dealing with UFOs and conspiracies with a Buddhist temple
Whatever the hell Ten Desires was
Fighting mythical creatures due to the fabric of the world being turned upside down
Stopping an invasion from the moon seeking refuge from an angry mother and her friend the literal devil
Attempting to stop a God who simply wanted to flex her influence/power by taking the four seasons hostage
Allying with hellish animal spirits to stop clay spirits who were overtaking their domain
The fact that ZUN gets to all this through simple drinking makes me wonder what a series of drugs would produce, because this all sounds incoherent on paper, but he manages to stitch it all together to make something akin to Ultima 1. Where you have a medieval world with basic swords, crossbows, and maces that has Blaster Rifles, Hovercars, Space Shuttlers, Tie Fighters, and the International Space Station just hanging around as some jarring contrast that is so absurd it sort of works

1:59:09 Although there's no hard evidence for the placement of Foul Detective Satori, Chapter 44 in Lotus Eaters seemingly happens at the same time as FDS. In that chapter, Orin appears in the human village tells Aya that she's on an investigation on behalf of Satori's orders. Aya asks if she is after the vengeful spirit, and Orin says that the spirit could plunge the village into darkness. It's a vague connection though, as it only kinda fits with with the beginning of the 4th arc of FDS.
Also if this is the case then the incident of FDS and UDoALG basically happen back-to-back, which is kinda weird. It's kind of like the Bougetsushou series, which is thought to have happened mostly after Mountain of Faith but the events are not well supported in other Touhou media, even though it's supposed to be a big deal.
A good part of the later half of these games being caused by the Moriya Shrine is hilarious
