Complete Room Build Start to Finish at My Cabin in the Woods

- In this video, I complete a brand new project at my off grid cabin... the deck room! The previous owners of this cabin in the woods built walls onto the old deck and created a new room out of it. However, they never completed it. Now it's time to finish it! I must begin by finishing the framing of the 2x6 and 2x4 walls and filling the cavities in the ceiling between the rafters with fiberglass insulation.
After finishing the framing and insulation of the room, it was time to hang the drywall. I used a Buildman Metaltech Drywall and Panel Hoist to assist with installing the sheetrock on the ceiling, then I finished the walls using a ladder. I also had to account for cutting out holes for 3 electrical outlets, as well as 2 lights in the ceiling, and 1 light switch box near the front door.
I then did my own tape, texture, primer and paint. Using mostly tools I already had (plus some I made myself) I did my own hand texture using a scrap sheet of Tyvek. I've been procrastinating this project due to a fear of doing a poor job texturing. I had never done any drywall before this project. But I think it turned out looking pretty good considering everything. Be not afraid of doing things yourself, you can do it! All you gotta do is try!
Picking up where I left off... With the walls and ceiling now sheetrocked, textured and painted, it was time to install the flooring. I began by laying down a layer of underlayment on top of the plywood subfloor. Then, I installed the interlocking pieces of flooring. Once the flooring was down, it was time to work on trimming out the windows, entryways, front door, and the baseboards of the walls. Finally, I wired the 3 electrical outlets and 2 LED lights with a dimmer switch by tapping into a wire underneath the cabin.
Thanks for watching!

The texture will catch the dust😮
That’s a lot of work for one person but you did a very nice job. Looks great. Thanks for sharing.
I watched this video last night lol well it was posted a little while back. But coffee and Diego to start my morning off
I found an easy way to mark the electrical outlet is to use a red lipstick on the edges and press the wall board lightly. It worked like a charm for me. 😊
Clever😊😊
Keep up the amazing work. Looking forward to next weekend. God Bliss everyone. Have the greatest day ever, love and peace.
Need to put insulation under house helps with heat loss throughout the floor !!!
You did a fantastic for your very first time. Putting texture in your ceilings or walls requires more paint. Hint cut walls, corners, ceiling and then roll . Future painting projects.
You are doing a great job!
Just wanted to give you a table saw safety tip, lower the blade as much as possible to cut through the wood, just in case! Great job on the room.
Exhausting. But very nice job.
A large sea sponge will work for the mud. I use to do this in 1990’s for a few clients.
Eclectic taste in music makes a nice addition. I listen to all that same stuff. You are doing a great job.
The diy project, homestead Mr and Miss fix it channels are so inspirational 😁 thanks for sharing.
After watching your video,, it motivated me to clean my oven, house, bathtub and organize my closet. Thank you Bro.
Love the vids Diego
New to your channel and love it! You have done a awesome job. I appreciate a family friendly channel. So much trash on tv and TH-cam.So happy to of found your channel. Keep posting these awesome videos. Thank you for sharing your journey with us.
congratulations to you Diego, personally I think you're doing a wonderful job your home is beautiful and you're doing it by yourself so congrats!!don't beat yourself up,and if someone was to find an imperfection in something you've done in your home tell him thank you for telling me you could have came to help me I'm just glad that you're doing it and you're happy with it!!😊😊😊😊
Great work! little tip for the outlets, mark the metal edges of the outlet with a scrap piece of drywall, then place your sheet over and it will leave a dusty imprint on the back side 👍
Fabulous job Keep doing what you love young man
New subscriber. I think you did a awesome job and your peaceful place looks great! Love the music❤
Very cool, I'm in the process of framing/drywalling my whole basement and I've neve really done that quantity of drywall either. We tape and sand smooth here in the Midwest, but similar project. Love the off grid videos, one day I hope to have a little cabin in the woods myself!
You did a great job young man with all that work.
Looking Fabulous. Keep Up The Good Work.
New sub! I am a fan of your off grid journey something I am going to pursue. Myself and I am your neighbor in Oregon Just started watching your videos you are 2 years in so I have a lot of catching up to do thanks for the content.
Looking Fabulous!! Keep Up The Good Work.
😅
Hey Diego, what an awesome job you did!! It looks great. You can sell it now!! Noooo, I know that you won't sell it, but just give me a price!! lol
Nice workmanship Diego!! Enjoy your videos!!
It's very relaxing watching you grow in your confidence as you build your cabin. Thanks for sharing 🙂👍.
Diego, I noticed that the under side of your cabin is uninsulated, not sure how cold your winters are, in northern Alberta most everyone insulates the underside of their cabin floors with closed cell spray foam. They also skirt and spray the exterior perimeter. Makes a huge difference in heating throughout the winter. It cuts down the amount of wood or gas heat usage.
It looks beautiful Diego
This gives you a huge amount of respect for the craftsmen that do texture like this and make it look simple. Great job Diego!
Was that a pink Floyd track , love the old tracks at least you can sing and understand the lyrics,👍
I started watching your videos, last week and I really enjoy them, you are an amazing young man, can't wait for the next one. ❤❤
Tyvek is not vapour barrier
The room looks perfect to me. Don’t point out the flaws and no one will know.
Hard work ,but a job well done !! It looks outstanding.....
New subscriber here. This is the second video nice seen and wow! Really enjoyed your work ethic . Excited to see your playlist of progress . 👏🏽💪🏽
If you use a heavy roller and add much more water to the mudd almost like paint thickness it makes a nice even texture with out having the hard spikey stuff
Looks great. I finished out a porch into a Florida room during the pandemic. It kept me sane and i love the end result.
That gas ceiling lamp is actually sick. Been watching your videos but this is the first time i've seen it! Also love the sound of the rain falling on your roof. Since the space is so narrow I would have oriented the planks the opposite way so that when you open the front door the planks lead you into the space towards that one window opposite the door. Regardless it turned out great but I'm impressed how hard you worked to finish the room. Flooring and the baseboards alone are such time consuming and tedious work and you accomplished 10x that.
Title: no music
sings all the american classics
haha
I’m new around your channel but I must say ,of all the home build / Reno’s I’ve watched I’ve never seen someone have everything in a book and ticking off the woods you’ve cut and everything. Well done finally someone not just going gang busters and having it come out ok but always left me wondering how long that Reno would last. Good job I really, love your content .hugs from Sydney Australia 🇦🇺
Nice work
Thanks for sharing
Top notch content
Fantastic job well done 🥰
Great Job Diego!
You room looks great!
I love your measure and cut journal! You are so organized.
Love, love, love the pine tree design on the porch slats. Im going to have to do that!
Great job Diego 👍 the finished project looks amazing 🤩
wow you did an amazing job❤
That entrance was common in old cabins in scandinavia. But it was kind of an air lock to keep warm air in and cold air out in winter . And the opposite in summer. Kept working clothes there. To get that, you need to add a second door to get a closed off entrance. If you want that function.......
Love your videos❤
Nice job.
I have done a few sheetrock, mud and tape projects. I started like you. I didn't know what I was doing except verbal advise, there wasn't extensive internet information back then. It's not that tough, a lot of room for error even, I found. If you can get away without having to sand any joints you are doing great! I've had to sand sheetrock joints, it sux. Corners are not fun for me. I've always textured using a texture hopper and sprayed on via an air compressor. I remember your video of the tiny home, you textured it by hand as well. Has AL ever been to your cabin since you finished the door? I guess he could just watch one of your videos. I think you did great!
Trying hard again. You need plastic over the fiberglass. Tyvek let's moisture through so you will mold your insulation. Tyvek on the outside, plastic on the inside.
Tyvek is not a vapor barrier!
This
❤
I don't care what anyone else says, I really think you did and great job, as usual.
Aaaaaaamazing!!! 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
YESSSSS, YOU ARE CORRECT!!!! I HAVE NEVER SEEN TYVEC 9N THE INSIDE😮😮😮
Working with asbestos you should have a mask on.
I like it 🎉🎉🎉
Also if you put screws in the holes of the outlet box then(leave them sticking out a little more than the width of the sheet rock) push the sheet rock up on it that will punch holes through so you know where the box is then use your razor knife and cut out in-between the screws
Beautiful door
I've watched all your videos regarding this. I suppose I can skip this one then. 😂
Diego for breakfast!
Awesome work!
I forget....did you enclose the base of your cabin to keep air from flowing under? Looks good!
Great job well done !
50:30 To avoid condensation getting trapped and , in worst case, fill it with water and cause a situation. Drill a small evacuation hole in the bottom, and let gravity help you....And let the incomin cables have a small loop towards the ground to let droplets of condensation get caught there and leave for the ground. If the cables are angled from top into the box, condesation will, over time, fill it.
Great job.Tks video.
Doing that texture looks like painful work 😂 I’m glad I seen you do it because when I Reno my house I will set sand and paint. To much work for me 😂 ps there is a part in the video where you have paint in your nose. Looks like you were sniffing coke 😂
TIM from Canada should have put a light coat on. It is called a skin coat.. you take the same compound you were using and you go up and down the wall with the giant scraper and your mud is on the end of this. Look it up. TH-cam called skin coating the walls.
It's all good
There are videos on TH-cam, showing how to make a push guide (kind of like the pull on your entry door) for your table saw out of scrap wood (so you don't have to buy one)😊 I understand you are very busy, but when you get a little break in between projects you might want to have a comfortable push guide?
New Sub - enjoying your videos 👍
Diego , just asking did you leave all the wires exposed under the house, aren't you afraid the animals will chew them. ❤
Its is called mudding have fun... take care Im sure she will appericate it once she see it take care and have fun,
Did you check behind the insulation to see if there was mold against the wall? It had no vapor barrier so water vapor would go through and condense on the cold outside wall.
You really needed vapor barrier over the fiberglass to prevent that, not house wrap. And since you finished the walls already before a quick Google to check it'll tyvek is vapor barrier, you're kind of screwed.
Not true at all: From the 1960's, it became standard practice to install a vapour barrier between the insulation & interior wall. In the past few years however, this has raised a number of concerns that the vapour barrier actually contributes to mold, rather than preventing it. This is due to the fact that the plastic completely prevents any air flow through the wall. Moisture entering the wall cavity (and it always does), has no means of escape, often resulting in mold. I have some personal experience with this, with a building which was built in the early 1990's - no vapour barrier - and no mold. This is in an area which gets a lot of rain & extreme weather, particularly in the winter months.
In a cold climate like he is in the vapor barrier keeps moisture from entering the wall and the tyvek, the vapor permiable layer let's trapped moisture ezcale to the outside. This is building science for northern homes that get heated in winter. I don't know how it's done in warmer climates.
I really enjoyed the video but I think that TH-cam is making it very difficult for the channels to make ad revenue when TH-cam is allowing ad's to run for 10,20,30 and 50 minutes or more! Crazy 😧
Please, please reverse the door handles. The outside one would look beautiful on the inside!!😊😊
You can make your own push tool with a piece of wood
I would of put beautiful wood boards up
Did you consider a battery operated paint sprayer? It may have it's drawbacks, but probably less fatiguing on the body.
You said you needed a push stick to use with your saw an old sturdy limb with a fork it would work or just shape one from a scrap 2x4 shaped with a Y easy as pie
Diego, did you sand your joints?
The cardboard trick is called CAD (Cardboard Aided Design) Also next time think about 45ing your butt joints on the baseboad so it shows less once finished.
I feel your pain!
What?....no Crown Molding on the ends and front walls?..... Something for a later date perhaps?
How did you learn woodworking? Did you take classes in college?
For your next foam board project use these instead. Bosch 3 Pack of 6 Inch Edge for Soft Materials Jig Saw Blades # T313AW3 eba#184430012355 less mess and less static. They also cut fabric and insulation and rock wool....... and foam rubber.........yes even carpet.........
No OSB before the drywall?
Ho don't forget the nails you need to add mudd and tape to the the nail heads
You have no moisture barrier and you only add a tiny amount of water if your spraying on texture. Your mud is way too thin and your taping of the joints will peel. No amount of texture will compensate. Depending upon humidity and temperature differential it may fail sooner than later!
You should have coped the baseboard instead of cutting at a 45°. Looks better and it won’t open back up
Do wear mask when painting, your lungs are slowly eaten by the thinner!
Ho I forgot to tell you the best part once dried you need to sand it smooth ,before you paint and what a mess that will be
I think you are going to have some mold issues house wrap is not made for an interior vapor barrier especially with fiberglass insulation…
Upload new vlogs.
Hi! I saw this before, and the video with the door also, why are you posting twice ?
th-cam.com/video/Gc2jRztvKLM/w-d-xo.html
Think the flooring should have been laid out the other way????😬😬😬😬……..Yikes!
You are gong to have to redo the walls… the most avful texture…
Ugh wish you didn’t put that texture on walls etc
Everyone who thinks or feels God doesn't care, is indifferent and or mean etc ….
Why is the world as it is, evil everywhere…
where is God and His faithfulness…
God does judge sin which is evil and if people don't stop sinning they will die for that disobedience, that sin. When God said if you take from that tree you will die He was saying if you disobey, you sin, I will punish that sin because God does punish it, sickness, demons and death. And if you keep sinning I will punish you to the point of death, is that punishment. Sickness is a consequence of sin and it is a judgement God makes upon the people for their sin. All sickness takes its toll on the body and will result in death unless you stop sinning and that brings a reward from God for the righteous decision to stop sinning that brought that illness. Throughout scripture God tells us these things. God does love and there is mercy in His punishment too. He chastises those He loves. His wrath doesn't mean He doesn't love, it doesn't mean there is no mercy, it means He puts His law first and He obeys it first. He punished sin and then punishes sin and so forth and if someone doesn't stop sinning or sins more then that judgment is death just as He said, sin is death. Scripture says we are all responsible for working out our salvation with fear and trembling. Seek scripture, learn who He is and what He said to obey and do it. if you obey Him you live in blessings just like Deuteronomy 28 says and it also says disobedience is curses, that's sickness, demons possibly and again to continue in sin results in death.
God told all the details, and paid for us to get out of sin and how we should live and when people don't live righteous then the world looks like it did in the days of Noah, violence, drunkenness and such lovers of self, pleasure and all sin and life apart from God, life in disobedience to God. Why should He bless sin? He punishes it then punishes sin more if someone keeps sinning. Is it tough people die from that choice they make, their sin and lack of seeking God to obey what He said, yes it hurts. How do you think God feels, He loved the world so much He gave His only begotten son and Yeshua died in agony for us to be out of that sin, taking God's wrath upon Himself so how do I think He feels, grieved so grieved but I know from scripture He always obeys what His word says, He never changes and that includes every word He said. Now Yeshua took God's wrath upon Himself for our sin Isaiah 53. We get peace with God and can come before Him to be heard and we get to be cleansed from our iniquities, sin. Just like the lamb sacrifices in the old testament Jesus was that for us a peace offering and forgiveness offering. We get freedom from that sinful past, from that sin and we get our healings because His stripes healed us from the consequences of sin.
He gave us a way out. A way to start again out of that wrath. How loving is that God gave us His son who took God's wrath for us out of love. How loving just how loving is our God who made a way for us to be out of that wrath? Wrath we deserved by our sin and continued sin. But God so loved the world He gave us Yeshua. Yeshua gave His life to rise to life for us to give us new life. A new creation to begin again a new life, having been born again. Having received forgiveness for sin and a pardon from God's wrath, that very wrath you talk about. But God gave us a way out of His wrath when Yeshua our lamb paid for our sin. Again how loving is that our way out of God's wrath. Our new life. Our second chance to live rightly before our Holy righteous God our being born again to live right because God planned for us to not all receive His wrath yet His son for everyone, one for everyone and a way out, pardoned and free to live life righteous whole healed delivered, how loving oh so very loving that is. All that is in scripture too. Seek and find, learn who He is and obey and see more of it. Mark 4:24 the more you obey God the more He reveals to you, it means that. Matthew 6:33 live it daily and understand who He is and just how loving He always is and honestly how loved you are will be seen felt and KNOWN too. 💕 May you come to understand Him all your days seeking and finding and growing in the knowledge of God in Yeshua's name 💕
Not a fan of the textured ceilings and walls. Actually h as bing a plasterer come give me a price to smooth it out
No music woohoo
Super 👍👍👍🇵🇱
You do realize that your dewalt compound mitre saw has a shafow light on it right???
