  • Toyota Land Cruiser Mass Air Flow sensor issue. The Cruiser jerk suddenly left me wondering what was wrong. So i got to a guy manually without computer identifying the fault codes in the car. Amazingly immediatly pointing out the actual issues the car experience. Great tip to use in the bush!

I think Toyota should reconsider manufacturing this MAF censor

What you have is an electromechanical Air Flow Meter, not a MAF sensor. A MAF uses a heated wire cooled by the air flow to measure air volume. It has no moving parts. The Air Flow Meter has a spring loaded flap that moves with increasing air volume. The flap is connected to a carbon wiper that contacts a resistor coil. As the wiper moves across the coil, the resistance value sent to the computer changes with respect to the air volume (flap movement.) The computer uses this value plus the value from the temperature sensor to determine the amount of air entering the engine. The most common failures are the carbon wiper, the flap pivot bushings, and the temperature sensor. The symptom you describe is most likely a worn carbon wiper causing resistance to become erratic when it gets hot. You also have a temperature sensor code indicating that it a problem also.
