  • What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. This was definitely the sentiment and spirit exuded by Huawei CEO Ren Zhengfei during the interview with CNBC’s Deirdre Bosa at the headquarters in Shenzhen.
During the interview, each of the correspondence’s sharp questions - questions regarding Huawei’s part in the trade discussions between the US and China; the company’s USD30 billion revenue hit due to tax; impact on Huawei’s fastest growing consumer business unit; sentiments of customers and employees all over the world; 5G and concerns about transparency; the case of his daughter, and many more - they were all met with Ren’s confident, clear and sincere answers.
Ren stated that this is a storm that Huawei must weather. But employees are motivated to continue to provide high quality services and products to customers. Huawei’s 30-year track record and customers’ support are great testimonies to Huawei’s efforts. Watch the full interview for all the details.

I‘d never accepted an interview with the US media unless I‘d had the talking skills of respected Mr. Ren. Chinese politeness, humbleness and patience combined with the fighting skills of a tiger.
And to answer the question from this little US girl who thinks she were an interviewer more directly: Many customers are ready to leave Android for a Huawei OS.

This interviewer is naive to think Ren will reveal too much details about their countermeasures against US attacks. Repeating the questions doesn't make you smart but show naiviety.
The skill of a good journalist is to navigate seemlessly for info.

The thing about Hard Talk is that we're supposed to be asked questions that we may not be comfortable answering. That's why the interviewer is being so persistent. But the issue is that Murikens (especially) just don't understand how other cultures operate at all, which is why many commentators here say what they're saying (and I agree with them all by the way, just that I'm not prejudiced against the interviewer either because this is supposed to be a Hard Talk session). Try as the Murikens may, they'll never be able to achieve anything with them being the way they are today.

    2. she needs to do Finance 101 before taking on such high profile interview..!! Its a shame she is a financial illiterate!!!!!

The bottom line is Huawei has no answer to solve Google Android issue. This is why Ren is vague and won't answer the questions cuz he has no solution. Even if Huawei spent the money to develop their own OS, it will not be competitive and their customers will not adopt it. Their phone business is pretty much dead. Just ask Microsoft. This explains why Samsung is too scared to implement their own OS. They already know it will fail.
Ren came out to do PR repair. Before that, life was going great for them. He could just hide behind the scene and play this mysterious role so people think Huawei is run by a mystical figure. Ren is now just pulling a kellyanne Conway.

    • @CCMphilip
      @CCMphilip 5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

Do not agree with your assessment.. those are "on the surface" logic that you are driving..
However, Mr. Ren had definitely done a lot more to ensure the survival of his US100b corporation that grow 30% annually!!!

The interviewer asked all the right question and Ren just gave her the run around and she has to repeat her questions multiple times. He's contradicting himself left and right. It seems they weren't ready for her questions cuz Ren really dont have the solution to solve this problem. Google Android is why Samsung, LG, Motorola, oneplus, oppo, Sony, and all the cheap Chinese knockoff are making billions. Without Android. Most of these companies are dead except for Sony and samsung cuz they actually innovate and build other stuff like sensors, lens, memory chips, screens, TV, game consoles etc.

    • @CCMphilip

Disagree again..! Your assessment is too superficial.. which Mr Ren knows too well...!! You think he will sit idling there to do nothing..?! What makes you think he would leave out the OS when he had invested billions on semiconductor.. ?!?!

I'm not saying he's not trying to save his company. I'm only saying he's lost and doesnt know how to go about saving it and this is why he can't answer the questions.
If you know what happen to Microsoft's OS, then you'll know why mr. Ren is having problem and he knows it. He's a smart dude.
Having your own OS dont guarantee you're going to survive. Ask Microsoft and Samsung. It ain't as easy as people think. Otherwise Huawei would've implemented their OS long ago instead of relying on Android. Huawei is hurting BIG TIME, Mr. Ren just doesnt want to admit it. He's trying to play off 30billion like its nothing. He's being disingenuous.
