I loved this game. Had it on the Genesis. First time seeing the arcade play through. Love seeing the small differences. I’ll have to play this version soon.
I had a most nail biting experience on it on Switch. But I made it to the end and got the Phelios sword itself. If you collide with a wall, you're done for.
Man, I thought the first few levels were hard, but Antaeus (Fire boss) was just flat out ridiculous. I get that arcade games are intended to vacuum up your cash, but that's unfair, plain and simple. I'm really glad they toned it down in the Genesis version, or I don't think my siblings and I could ever have completed the game.
That's up to Namco Bandai to decide and I wasn't too sure if the English translations are planned or not since they did on the Sega Genesis version with English text and voice translations. Sucks that the arcade version wasn't released in America due to strong torture scenes
@@joevidrio8688 So, how does one beat the final boss? Even if I can dodge that bullet hell, Typhon simply throws his body on the lower half of the screen, killing me instantly. He's unbeatable.
the genesis version was great but snes would have been damn near arcade perfect version with all the mode 7 scaling and rotation effects and sound if it was made
No not really. Mode 7 is EXTREMELY limited. The only available BG layer is the one being rotated and scaled. Why do you think the backgrounds in SMW's boss battles are void black?
If the Mega Drive had launched with its original system specifications (essentially, a clone of System 16, so more colour, plus scaling and rotation), it would have been much closer to the arcade version. Even though the arcade used a custom sound processor (reminds me of the SPC700 a bit in places), the Mega Drive does a pretty good job here, samples notwithstanding, and even has more boss themes.
Ah Phelios I used to play this on lazy Sunday afternoons on my old Genesis. Brings back memories! the arcade version is awesome.
What a game! Wish they still made them like this
The arcade version is amazing. I think the Mega Drive was a great conversion though. The Japanese vocals would have been nice though.
He is using invincibility.
Excatly
Yeah
Amazing game, beautiful scaling. The days of stunning games & arcade hardware. And the golden age of consoles 16bit❤
The music is awesome! Namoc had the best music, musicians and hardware of the late 80s and beginning of 90s games.
Namoc?

It’s coming to the Nintendo Switch via Hamster/Arcade Archive’s, on February 3rd 2023.

Why does mount olympus look like a medieval castle?
Because Namco simply mixed up cultures.
at first i thought this was another street fighter game because the death sound similar

What is the Japanese dialogue during the cut scenes?
3:35 You could imagine why this game never left Japan.
@DoDonPachi SaiDaiOuJou The Genesis version did see an international release.
Korg M1 Piano?
I just tried this game....it's so hard after you died once and lost all the power ups lol.
Jogo muito injustiçado poderiam fazer pra novas plataformas

The arcade one owns. The Sega one, nope
A Sega 32x or Sega Saturn port would definitely be better than a Sega Genesis port!
con truco cualquiera lo pasa...
And i came here hoping to learn a couple pointers... Lame
