- Here is a view of a rare Seth Thomas Sons & Company deadbeat clock escapement. This was dismantled, cleaned, bushed and restored in February, 2024.
Note that STS&c. built this small, round movement to compete with the popular, reliable, accurate and expensive Japy Freres movements from France in the late 1800s. STS&c's was no less expensive, and was considered to be among the best produced out of Connecticut in the day. The movements went into clocks that sold for upwards of $3,000 in today's dollars, more than three times the mean price of similar American mantel clocks of the day.
