As others have commented these are common for the tank delaminating and clogging the filter.
I was told to always remember... to have high pressure you need low pressure.
Nice work with the leak off bottles though! 👍

We have the same problem.. Same engine.. Our high pressure pump is ruined by running out of diesel once.. Since then difficult to start and long cranking until it wont start anymore.. 1st changed the fuel rail sensor, then crankshaft sensor then seen some dirt inside the fuel rail due to the pump is pulverized by running dry changed the pump too. Injectors got clogged too. The mechanic wants to convert the CRDI system to a mechanical pump one..

Wow I can just imagine all the crap that's gone into those injectors after seeing what was coming through the filter!
Surely the other garage should have spotted that and done a leak back test before deciding to throw a new high pressure pump at it. Well done + thanks for sharing.

The crap does not go to the injectors because the filter stop it!! The issue is if the filter gets clogged the high pressure pump will get enough fuel and so do the injectors. The outcome is the both higher fuel pump pressure and injectors succumb!!! Mate. The video is not showing but the high fuel pressure pump gets changed too which is on the timing belt!

I payed £280 for it a couple of years ago and can safely say that it’s payed fo itself as the garage near me charges £40 just for a diagnostic check let alone doing any repairs, it’s not modern but it will do me for now.

Another thing, the perfect good working inyector give return flow few drops, almost nothing, that is a good shape inyector.Personaly i clean the tank(not final solution) and change the filter by transparent one like old school gasoline filter, that way the owner can see when the filter is clogged again, and is more (much more) cheaper then OEM one(about 50€ here in Spain).Cheers.

Screwed in the bottom of the fuel filter is the Water In Fuel Sensor. Kia changed the design of the filter in 2010, so its always best to buy a new Fuel Filter and WIF Sensor from Kia, so you know you have the latest one. After this, you can change the fuel filter knowing the WIF is correct. Using an old WIF with a new filter can cause tiny air gaps, resulting in the fuel/air mix being wrong.

what does coding of the number written on the diesel injector do? The injector has no electronics (pcb, ram) to store the number. Why is not any injector working with any number?

Also, P0087 & P0088 appear when the fuel pressure gets to 1200BAR. As a result of the pressure being too low or too high, the EML comes on and it shuts down the engine and the electrics to stop the fuel system causing damage.
I found this out when doing 70mph on the motorway, the EML came on and the engine died along with the electrics. VERY SCARY!
Other things to consider are the Mass Air Flow, Inlet Metering Valve, Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor & the Fuel Pump.
I've replaced all of the above, had the injectors checked and it still faults. I'm at a loss with this engine

I don't know about this particular repair and what was causing the fuel contamination.
The cause of the contamination is not investigated fully.
In my experience with the Delphi diesel injection system the fuel pressure pumps are prone to go wrong in the sense that they start wearing and small pieces of metal will contaminate the whole fuel system. The fuel filter can only catch fuel that has returned from the injector leak off path as there is no filter on the high pressure side. I was told by diesel experts that in this case the whole fuel system ( ! ) needs to be replaced. Tank , fuel lines , pump , injectors .

      Home mode...
Is when the car limits revs, speed, power etc... that happens when the car senses a problem, enables that mode to prevent further damage...
Different makers call it different names, and that mode can be set with different parameters...
      Hope that helps.

Maybe I'm wrong and I say maybe just because I can't believe you made such mistake. The tank needs to come down and be cleaned thoroughly (I'm not familiar with Kias and had read in comments few other guys said the reservoar itslef is the problem). That fuel is not to be used in car again
I've done many of the same cases as this and if you don't clean high pressure system it's gona destroy injectors again. Also metal fragments are most of the time from the lift pump.
I'm sory I watch every video you post and I learn much from you but I think in this case you are wrong (repair not diagnosis).
    Greetings from Serbia.

    • @LMAutoRepairs
      @LMAutoRepairs  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi
The repair worked perfectly... as you have seen in the end of the video...
The only thing that I have not done was the tank... I have not removed it or replaced it...
To be honest, the owner would refuse doing it anyway... (and I know what I am talking about... lol)
As I said many times in the past, you can only investigate and do what the owner is willing to pay for... unless you want to work for free....
Hope that makes sense... (Don't want to say much more...)
      Thank you for watching!

@@LMAutoRepairs OK, thank you for answering.
I would refuse to do this job this way because if the injectors blow up again customer would blame me (ewen if they insist not to clean the whole system. I had very unpleasant experinces in the past). I'm doing this way and I'm not saying that is the best way.
I'm 100% sure you want to do a job the best you can, and you told them what is the right thing to do, but choice is on them, and why to lose the job. I undestand that.
THANK YOU FOR ANOTHER GREAT VIDEO :)
