Yes lick 5 is the one. The corkscrew lick starting on the b7 of the Gm7 is found all over Birds solos he uses it all over the place . The greatest formulaic improviser that ever lived !
I took a leave from the coffee House to practice classical Music but this morning i woke To your greeting of hi ! .then I watched a video and could Only let myself comtinue with My jazz playing. Practice and Live ...thank you j dorothy.. Dl
Do it! You can only worst case scenario learn a ton and have fun from it! I mean I have never touched a piano in my life and her channel as well as makes me wanna practice some jazz piano playing too!
@@RenegadeShepard69uhhh, no. You can easily get really frustratwd the moment you sit infront of the piano and dont know where to begin with. Start with the Basics, finger techniques, music Theorie, and then improvise.
@@RenegadeShepard69of course fun is all that Matters, but it IS Not as easy as that. I play the piano 10+ years now but the jazz world was something new to me. It took me more than a month to feel the music to improv on a basic ii-V-I
basically it is really easy to play when it comes to thinking 2-5 as just 5 as Barry Harris mentioned, thanks for picking great licks. I love the 3rd one it proves 2-5 is just 5
Man. I need to pick up my sax again :( biggest mistake I ever made was to stop playing my horn. I say this often. I need to procure it again. Tenor Selmer reference 36
This is wonderful!, thank you! I fell in love with this song (pun intended) when I heard Chet Baker's version. Could you please do a tutorial on his pianist Russ Freeman's comping? That would be so great!
could someone help me understand something please? on the first lick on the second measure the F is played, I thought it was an avoid note, yet it sounds good, so I don't understand how it works haha also I don't understand how the Ab note works there as well because it sounds really cool but logic says it should sound dissonant thank you in advance :)
The F at the end of measure 2 is just the concept of anticipating the next chord. because the time of the C7 chord is ending and the F chord comes in soon after that tone is being played, it is ok. the short answer is just anticipating the chord change. you could also DELAY the chord change by continuing to play C7 language into the F chord.
The Ab: The Ab works because it is just an extension tone of the C7 chord. because it's a dominant chord aka a flat seven chord, you can use a variety of extensions on this chord. Ab is flat 6 which is flat 13. (Also sharp 5 but let's stick to thinking of it as an extension) The chord is C7, which means you can say it as C9, C7b9, C7#9, C#11, C13, C7b13. C9= a D tone C7b9 = a Db or a C# tone C7#9 = a D# or Eb tone C#11 = an F# or Gb tone C13 = an A tone C7b13 = an Ab tone
The E natural works over the Gmin7 chord because of the same concept of the dominant chord, the C7 chord you asked about. Gmin7 doesn't have to strictly be Gmin7. you can use Gmin6 language over it. Gmin9, Gmin7, Gmin11, Gmin13. a ii chord does not always have to be a minor seventh chord. it's really just that simple. I hope this information helps you.
Wow! So good! Thank you for this video. I'm not even a pianist and I still find it so useful. Quick question, Is 10 and 18 the same lick or am I just reading it wrong? 🤔

온전히 '완결된' 프레이즈로는 6번, 듣기 좋은 건 9번 같아요!! 버드는 평범할 수도 있는 하행라인을 넘나 센스있게 구사하는군요 🥺🥺,,,
Jazz educators: "Bebop is about the dominant."
Charlie Parker: Ignores the dominant on ii-V-Is most of the time.
Watching your left hand has given me a better understanding of how to read sheet music...thanks for the post ❤👍
Yeah! 5 is also my favorite. Some had interesting accent placements. 20 was particularly intricate. Thank you, I loved this.
Thanks!
