This is exactly what I have been looking for everyday contouring. Most of the tutorials on TH-cam make you look like a Christmas Tree or zebra. I am absolutely in love with your channel. Lots of love girl.

I use my bronzer to contour because if I do both, I look way too made up. I agree about using powders vs creams. Much more control, even though I have dry skin, I don't like cream contour products. I think the thought that you shouldn't do this as you get older, is actually that you should do it differently than when you were younger. If you place contour in the hollows of the cheeks on older skin, it ages you very quickly. I use far less product now and keep it closer to the hairline. I came of age during the Disco-era and because of the dark atmosphere and dim lighting, we would pile on the blush and contour. Unfortunately when you walked outside, you resembled a mannequin! Ugh!! Love your nail color in this video!! :)

I agree. I love a nice defined cheek bone, but you can look gaunt if you apply too much as you age xxx

Gemma you are the best! You explain everything so good and make it sound so easy. I thought I was too old for contouring but Im going to try it now since you explained it all.

Btw, this is one, if not THE best tutorial on face shape application. Especially because you also explain things for people that look different than you or the why. Ithas emphasised that I'm doing it right.
I have an extra tip for blush: if you have a wide or round face it is best to apply your blush above the contour in an upward angle //. Don't go further towards the nose than max your eye pupil. Further and you get really weird "apples". It is also weird to do the whole cheek area. Some people smile and then colour in that raised bit. But like Gemma says: 1. If you're cheeks have sagged that is already wrong, but 2. You create a clown face like that. It is always better to add colour to the top of the cheek.

I tend to stay away from contour powder. My face is already skinny, and hollow cheeks. So I like to use Bronzer to add color back, and blush. I love cream blush Mac is awesome, also physicians Formula has a great subtle Bronzer. I can see where using contour would work for heavy foundation, but I don't wear heavy foundation lol. Great video as always!

Right I shall stop using bronzer as a contour, had no idea what I was supposed to be doing really anyway, lol! Now I know and will definitely give it a go, have a round face and slightly sagging jowls...oh the joys of ageing.

    .....Face art! So cool.
You are terrific Gemma...since watching your channel I'm now using wonderful skincare & have upped my makeup game & taken an interest again.
Have to say...I'm now looking pretty good at 61...Never too old to learn some new tricks, lol ☺
Thanks so much, I really enjoy every video.

Of all the ‘how to contour’ vids this is by far the most transparent and informative. Usually vids ‘explain’ but under the assumption you have ‘some’ knowledge. I don’t wear make up but I love seeing the creative ‘transformation’. Good job 👍🏼

I love your detailed and very technical approach to this tutorial. This really helps me, because I have never had a contour/highlight approach to doing my makeup. I can not stress enough, about how most of these videos do mostly one look, that showcases the makeup...! On the other hand, you give good, solid advice on application.

I'm going to have to practice. I use a full coverage foundation and I do not use any contour or blush. I know it is wrong but I just haven't gotten arounx to buying any and then there is the decision to be made on what colors to get. Some times I'm just overwhelmed. But I love the video.

Lol. I'm the opposite of your intro😊 At 54 next week, I looked in the mirror and decided it was time to give up the drying powders and move to moisturizing creams. The powders were starting to make me look a whole lot older. I guess that shows how we are all different and it's a good thing there are so many different types of products😊 Thank you for another great video❤

Awesome video on why and how to contour, blush and highlight!!! Very good tips, especially the cheekbone one , where I've always been confused with that area. But now I feel more confident, to measure one finger under my cheekbone and contour, and also the blush part was very useful. What can I say I love your explanations, this video is very helpful. Thank you Gemma for a great tutorial 💖

And I'm so happy you mentioned highlighter. Yep, I was doing that wrong too!

you're very welcome. wow, i can't believe that i already wiped off my makeup (about 10 minutes ago) when i saw your notification. i did try your technique for contouring. i only did one side of my face to see the difference. it actually works! first i decided to use a little foundation (Loreal infallible), i applied it to my skin with a fluffy blush and i just loved how it looked on me. i never tried this foundation before. i used very little of it because i wanted a more natural look, and i was very happy with the results. hell, i might use this foundation more often. :P then i started contouring my cheeks, then my jawline. i was amazed when i looked in the mirror and saw the difference on both sides of my face. my cheekbones looked great, just like yours, and my jawline hid a bit of, you know...hehe. xD i am so pleased! thank you Soooo much for this video!💗 Love You Much!💗💗 PS. thanks for the 💗s too! :DDD

Hi Gemma, I only started following your classes 3-4 weeks ago. And since then, I’ve “gobbled” them up! Especially those for the mature. I’ve always loved all things to do with makeup but feel I’ve lost my way a little over the last few years. Have you done a class on shaping your eyebrows and how to do hooded eyes? If you have, I can’t find them, and if not...... any chance of doing so in the future. Love your chat and great humour. Many thanks.

I've noticed that as I get older contouring ages me. Less is more. Except my forehead, that i contour lol. Great video!

When that happens you can actually reverse contour to make your face look fuller. As long as you understand the concepts of highlighting and contouring, you can be really creative. I cover pimples using a contouring and highlighting technique xxx
