Betrayal is one of Wano’s major themes. Apoo and Hawkins betrayed Kid, Kaido betrayed Orochi, Orochi betrayed Wano, Denjiro betrayed Orochi, Kanjuro betrayed the Scabbards, and so on. How better to use this theme in the final battle. Luffy should win not (just) because he’s strong, but because he’s a good man who inspires loyalty.

I'm so stoked to see where Caribou's role in the story goes. He has been around for the ENTIRE post-timeskip journey, Oda's got to have something great and long-term planned for him. I swear, I was having this EXACT conversation like two days ago! Especially the point about how the villain alliance will fail to contrast the protagonist alliance succeeding. But it's super satisfying to see how well you've put all the points together. I feel like the way all of post-timeskip is one cohesive plot is super underrated, and pirate alliances are one of the main themes of that plot for sure. I don't think I even realized the extent of all this evidence, though, like how Big Mom was betraying Germa. And the entire Perospero situation is something I never would have noticed. I can't wait to see it happen, and I hope people appreciate how much it fits her character. Great video as usual!
I thought about it when BM went to Wano. I thought Oda would use her to weaken Kaido so SWs can win. But then decided against it since i thought it was a lame way to make Luffy win.

Yeah there's an high risk of betrayal from Big Mom, but I don't think Kaido is all muscle and no brain. He actually has been showing a good control over his troops and strategy. Besides he is totally aware that Big Mom will betray him, since he already stated that. So I don't think it'll be easy for Big Mom to "sneak" on Kaido to get him down. I highly doubt it'll go that way, because Kaido is not stupid to that point. He surely isnt the strongest just by strenght, he is smart as well, and it's been shown he knows what he is doing.

I’ve been thinking about this too in a different way, more thinking that Big Mom’s relationship with the straw hats is pretty interesting so far and she definitely could end up helping them out, even if it’s indirectly. There’s been so much built up with their relationship (Big Mom taking somewhat of a liking to Brook, Katakuri respecting Luffy, Big Mom caring about Otama) that there’s no way her story ends in Wano, especially at the hands of non Straw Hats
Every time big mom is included, all the strawhats get they're shine, I like that, also yeah, she's been the yonko most directly involved with the entire crew in general rather than just luffy or one other. And yeah I would be disappointed as hell if it wasn't one of if not all the strawhats who take her out as I've been waiting for that since Fishman Island.
Glad I'm not the only one who's been thinking this. Lowkey feel like if the Tobi Roppo are not done with, then the Big Mom Pirates might be the ones who finish them off. They could probably sneak onto Onigashima through the Mirror World, if Brulé is with them, I'm not too sure if she is, and start sweeping up any remaining Beast Pirates while Kaido is on the roof. That's just my thought anyway.

I like this idea. Especially if you consider that in the middle of fighting, when Kaido is moving Onigashima, Big Mom mentions the road poneglyph. Kaido wouldn't be stupid enough to bury something he needs to get to Laugh Tale before its been translated, so I view this as Big Mom essentially trying to find out where it is so she could have her crew go grab it before the fighting concludes.
Big Mom betraying Kaido will also be a parallel between Oden and Kaido, both screwed over by an old hag. Kaido's ultimate punishment could be dying abruptly rather than the Whitebeardesque death he wanted, maybe the difference between noble pirates like Whitebeard and Oden is they stay strong despite betrayal. During their fight in the anime, Big Mom punched Kaido when he got distracted, possible foreshadowing. It's nice to see Blackbeard isn't the only one acting like a pirate.
I agree but also I wouldn't discart the option where Kaido knows Big Mom well enough to know what she is up to and has. A back up plan ready. I used to think that his betrayal of Orochi was actually a planned act to make Big Mom lower her guard and trust him

Kaido didn't care about fighting Oden at his best. If he did he wouldn't have waited 5 years...or wouldn't take advantage of his subordinate distracting Oden...and he certainly wouldn't have lied to him again with the oil and just shot him. I feel like Kaido has his code of honor, but he also seems to believe in playing the hand you're dealt, he wants to fight fair, but not fair as in "on even footing", fair as in "whatever happens happens" like an "all's fair in love and war" kind of fair
This is solid. I like these predictions based on themes in opposition to random symbolic clue ones, just generally predicting something using storytelling theory seems more reliable that trying to gather details about this or the other name or race namedropped around.

To add to it, I remember a conversation between Mom and Kaido in which she asked him if his Road Poneglyph is in Wano, and he said something like "Showing your true intentions that early?" Or something in those lines. He might even be expecting this to happen. Although he probably was not expecting to have such a hard time in the raid. Personally, I believe mom betrayal will happen when they found Kaido's road poneglyph
Itd be great if the raid failed but it looks like oda is doing way more with themes and subtleties, for it to fail. As long as the alliance only wins do to big moms betrayal or outside interference then I'll just chalk this arc up to DBZ levels of trash and not 4th great ninja war levels that it would be if luffy somehow 1v1 kiado and won or the alliance went in to win with no win conditions and still wo.

And what makes it more fair is that Luffy is fresh and ready to go while Kaido has numerous battle scars and he's already fought multiple people. So it really makes sense for a fully functioning healthy Luffy to defeat a weakened Kaido 1v1. This is what I predicted would happen because we all know if Kaido was at full strength he's mid diffing Luffy.

Luffy is at 50% at best. Luffy is still way to slow and weak to beat kiado, I can think of kiado getting injured by a super move similar to king Kong gun but ryo and CoC related, luffy can only get off with team work. Then I can see maybe that giving the edge to the team fighting kiado so hes not just fodderizing them all. But st the end of the day if kiado has awakening, well need outside interference weather it's big mom betrayal or world government or black beard. I still wish moria was in this arc, since his story is all about kiado
Loyalty and betrayal can be seen in the whole series. On Alvidas Ship, the marine base, Usopps Village, at baratie, Arlong Park and Logue Town, in the Baroque arc, Skypiea, Water7/Enies Lobby, Thriller Bark, Sabaody, Impel Down, Marineford, the timeskip itself... Both are part of the major theme friendship of OP.

But she already did do that, just with Page One instead of Queen, and then she went back to doing whatever she was doing before like she forgot all about it.
The other thing important here is that she took out P1 and (almost) Ulti. I really doubt that Oda would "waste" two of the F6 like that for no reason other than "lol Big Mom is crazy". I betcha Kaido will beat Yamato/Luffy/Marco/Momo one more time (at the end of act 3?) and then go downstairs to discover what she's done to his subbordinates. BM's mad at his crew because of Okobore town, then there Kaido is mad at her because she messed up his F6 members, then *bam* they're fighting each other in act 4. Plus I bet BM's crew will finally show up around this time and will get attacked by some of Tama's Dango'd Beast Pirates, add that to the two Yonko fighting each other, and they'll assume "We've been betrayed!" and boom, either they join the strawhats (less likely) or it becomes a full-on 3 front war (more likely), which IMO would be a great way for Act 4 to occur.
Been saying this since they announced their alliance. It also gives the rest of Big Mom’s crew something to do: come in fresh on Big Mom’s orders and finish off the weakened remnants of the Beast Pirates.
I can definitely see this happening. But it's hard for me to see how the Samurai alliance will deal with all that seeing as they will be weakened too and Big Mom has beef with them. Maybe thriller bark 2.0 with the SH crew out and the rest of Wano defending them??

Page 13 of chapter 987 lends additional support to this Big Mom betrayal theory because on that page Kaido said “But Pirates will betray you. When they know you’ll lose, they will abandon you and sail away.” So, this line could foreshadow Big Mom’s betrayal once she sees Kaido losing.
Or just weakened enough for her pirates to finish, it could also be reference to kiados history, which might be why big mom saved him in the first place
I had this thought and it really made it clear how right you are. It’s been made so clear that the SHs are successful due to their massive ability to work as a team not just with each other too but those around them they bring to new heights. I definitely think Big Mom could betray Kaido.
Big mom is probably after poneglyph. Until she finds the location of Kaido's poneglyph she is not betraying. Like she betrayed Germa 66 after their technology was in her territory.

I agree with the video and add even more: Mama's negotiating personality will further motivate this betrayal. We know that Linlin doesn't offer anything to anyone without getting something in return. Imagine if she was responsible for Kaido's death in response to the power she offered him (akuma no mi) in the God Valley Incident, that might have saved his life. By taking his life, she would only be getting back what she offered him 38 years ago: Kaido's own life.

i'd just like to add that there would be a lot of irony to kaido being betrayed early, since his entire crew hierarchy is pretty much based on members betraying their superiors to take their place. having kaido, captain of said crew based on betrayal, betrayed by an ally he trusts would pretty much cement how ironically dysfunctional his crew is compared to the straw hats
I always found that alliance between Marco and Perospero very odd, but now those scenes would make sense. I think it's also incredibly fitting if Big Mom ends up betraying and killing Kaidou after Luffy has defeated him, since this would mean Kaidou would die in a way totally opposite to the type of death he wants and it would also be a way to get him out of the story in a way that makes sense (instead of just having Luffy defeat him and then Kaidou crawling away from Wano and never coming back).
I don’t want Kaido to die. He is the most awesome and unique character in One Piece. To lose such a character would hurt just as much as when they killed off Whitebeard and Ace.
Imagine Kaido is the actual one who double crosses Big Mom and betrays. Like Kaido knows the similar tactics in WCI with Vinsmoke and alliance and learnt his lesson and before Big Mon could double cross Kaido, Kaido does it first.
Honestly I've been waiting for Big Mom to behead Kaidou for a very long time now,for several reasons. The whole unused plot point of Big Mom beheading her enemies being set up back in Zou. The Orochi beheading fake out. The Pound fake out. Kyros beheading Doffy only for it to be a fake out. All big fake outs involving an "off with their heads" motif that have played out ever since this saga began. Off course, there was one beheading which wasn't a fake out at all. Zoro beheading a Dragon at Punk Hazard. Kaidou's head's gonna fly, I guarantee it. My money is definitely on Big Mom swinging the blade.
Big mom is very smart and intelligent even the beast pirates acknowledged that so she is waiting for kaido to get real tired maybe wait until he has no haki left no will to fight!!!

@@bobbob-zc1nx Yeah this doesn't come off as Luffy having to grit his teeth and willpower through it. Kaido is an absolute monstrosity that is just too much right now. There was a long list of all the attacks Kaido took from the Scabbards ambush all the way to Luffy's CoC punches. It is crazy when you see it listed and Kaido is seemingly fine after all that. I'm still prepared to see Luffy win though. We all know it is coming.

the contrast between kaido and big mum is amazing, kaido's code of honour is about fair fights and the only people worthy of respect are the ones on par with him (we also see this in his speech after defeating luffy in the last fight *even if it was somewhat sarcastic*). unlike big mom, who would seek whatever way possible to meet her needs, but thinks normal people should be out of the game (like her rage about the burned down village) to me, kaido's "betrayal" to orochi was simply because he didn't him as a worthy opponent/ally anymore and it wasn't really a backstab. For big mom however, I'm still unclear about her ideals, when does she decide to backstab or help
This could POSSIBLY lead to a katakuri esque moment. With BM literally stabbing Kaido, Luffy could come in and kick her ass for interrupting their duel. With Kaido not attacking Luffy while he is helping him out. This gives Kaido and even more high respect for Luffy and serves the purpose of showing this aspect of Kaido in a more concrete way. An alternative would be Luffy helping to tank the hit for Kaido, though I personally doubt this. If there is a villian who is gonna break a mould of what a villian could be in this series in their complexity, it's gonna be Kaido and not the foreshadowed prince Loki
I think Kaido could easily foresee Linlin’s betrayal, but it doesn’t feel like he has the firepower backing him to handle her and her crew when they arrive.
Something I would like to add is that Kaido explicitely mentioned that he knew Big Mom was going after his poneglyphs. Big Mom is probably looking to steal them and then leave Wano.

This might just be the way that Wano ends. One of the big lingering questions people have is what's going to happen to Kaido by the end of Wano. Luffy isn't going to kill him (that's just not what he does), and Kaido is almost certainly too strong for the World Government to contain. If Big Mom is going to betray Kaido, maybe this means that after the battle is over, when Kaido is weakened, she'll literally stab him in the back and kill him. This would finally explain what Big Mom's role in the arc is. Not just to build on the themes of betrayal, but also to set it up so Kaido is out of the way for the final war.
This is actually one of the reasons I think the worst generation have to all ally with one another. A lot of the deep rooted beliefs about Piracy stems from the Rocks Pirates and how none of them got a long or trusted eachother. Somehow they became the model for how Pirates should be and you see that reflected in Kaido's crew and throughout the series. Which is why it makes sense to me that since this New World Saga is about the New Generation tearing down the Old one we should get a juxtaposition of the old way of Piracy shown to us in the New Generation of Pirates who do decide to genuinely trust and rely on one another and ultimately prove the notion of: "Pirate Alliances don't have happy endings" to be false. I see Wano ending with the 9 Supernova Captains Allying together under a new name and creating a new Era by setting a new standard of Piracy.
You are streaching it way waaaaaaaaaaayyyy to much. This theme that you are talking is already being told through Luffy and Law (and maybe even Kid), but adding other worst generation members (also remeber that worst generation includes blackbeard, you probably are talking only about the supernovas) suddently here does not make sense. And even more, Kid would never do anything with appo again, and probably not want anything with Hawkins too (and Drake is a Marine). We will have this theme play out, but only what is being built since Sabaody Archipelago with Luffy, Law and probably Kid.
That’s stupid. All competing pirates in a single generation need to ally ? You do know Blackbeard is in that generation right? We just had a worst generation alliance fail for Pete’s sake. Alliances for the sake of them accomplish little they need logistics and agreeing personalities, etc. Its hard to truly sift out where the member crews alliances truly lie, as we saw with Apoo.

I see the likes of Apoo and Hawkins learning their lesson about trusting others and daring to challenge the Yonkou. Of course it's possible to see now and many won't agree with me but only time will tell.

But I would rather have kaido betray big mom as I do not want kaido to be defeated half heartedly with tricks, kaido is the biggest obstacle luffy has faced and luffy needs to defeat him in a fight( not necessarily one on one) to grow as a pirate. But I also think that betrayal is really important for this arc.

I thought about it when BM went to Wano. I thought Oda would use her to weaken Kaido so SWs can win. But then decided against it since i thought it was a lame way to make Luffy win.

Yeah there's an high risk of betrayal from Big Mom, but I don't think Kaido is all muscle and no brain. He actually has been showing a good control over his troops and strategy. Besides he is totally aware that Big Mom will betray him, since he already stated that. So I don't think it'll be easy for Big Mom to "sneak" on Kaido to get him down. I highly doubt it'll go that way, because Kaido is not stupid to that point. He surely isnt the strongest just by strenght, he is smart as well, and it's been shown he knows what he is doing.

I’ve been thinking about this too in a different way, more thinking that Big Mom’s relationship with the straw hats is pretty interesting so far and she definitely could end up helping them out, even if it’s indirectly. There’s been so much built up with their relationship (Big Mom taking somewhat of a liking to Brook, Katakuri respecting Luffy, Big Mom caring about Otama) that there’s no way her story ends in Wano, especially at the hands of non Straw Hats
Every time big mom is included, all the strawhats get they're shine, I like that, also yeah, she's been the yonko most directly involved with the entire crew in general rather than just luffy or one other. And yeah I would be disappointed as hell if it wasn't one of if not all the strawhats who take her out as I've been waiting for that since Fishman Island.

I like this idea. Especially if you consider that in the middle of fighting, when Kaido is moving Onigashima, Big Mom mentions the road poneglyph. Kaido wouldn't be stupid enough to bury something he needs to get to Laugh Tale before its been translated, so I view this as Big Mom essentially trying to find out where it is so she could have her crew go grab it before the fighting concludes.

Big Mom betraying Kaido will also be a parallel between Oden and Kaido, both screwed over by an old hag. Kaido's ultimate punishment could be dying abruptly rather than the Whitebeardesque death he wanted, maybe the difference between noble pirates like Whitebeard and Oden is they stay strong despite betrayal. During their fight in the anime, Big Mom punched Kaido when he got distracted, possible foreshadowing. It's nice to see Blackbeard isn't the only one acting like a pirate.

And what makes it more fair is that Luffy is fresh and ready to go while Kaido has numerous battle scars and he's already fought multiple people. So it really makes sense for a fully functioning healthy Luffy to defeat a weakened Kaido 1v1. This is what I predicted would happen because we all know if Kaido was at full strength he's mid diffing Luffy.

Luffy is at 50% at best. Luffy is still way to slow and weak to beat kiado, I can think of kiado getting injured by a super move similar to king Kong gun but ryo and CoC related, luffy can only get off with team work. Then I can see maybe that giving the edge to the team fighting kiado so hes not just fodderizing them all. But st the end of the day if kiado has awakening, well need outside interference weather it's big mom betrayal or world government or black beard. I still wish moria was in this arc, since his story is all about kiado

The other thing important here is that she took out P1 and (almost) Ulti. I really doubt that Oda would "waste" two of the F6 like that for no reason other than "lol Big Mom is crazy". I betcha Kaido will beat Yamato/Luffy/Marco/Momo one more time (at the end of act 3?) and then go downstairs to discover what she's done to his subbordinates. BM's mad at his crew because of Okobore town, then there Kaido is mad at her because she messed up his F6 members, then *bam* they're fighting each other in act 4. Plus I bet BM's crew will finally show up around this time and will get attacked by some of Tama's Dango'd Beast Pirates, add that to the two Yonko fighting each other, and they'll assume "We've been betrayed!" and boom, either they join the strawhats (less likely) or it becomes a full-on 3 front war (more likely), which IMO would be a great way for Act 4 to occur.

Been saying this since they announced their alliance. It also gives the rest of Big Mom’s crew something to do: come in fresh on Big Mom’s orders and finish off the weakened remnants of the Beast Pirates.

Page 13 of chapter 987 lends additional support to this Big Mom betrayal theory because on that page Kaido said “But Pirates will betray you. When they know you’ll lose, they will abandon you and sail away.” So, this line could foreshadow Big Mom’s betrayal once she sees Kaido losing.
Or just weakened enough for her pirates to finish, it could also be reference to kiados history, which might be why big mom saved him in the first place

I agree with the video and add even more: Mama's negotiating personality will further motivate this betrayal. We know that Linlin doesn't offer anything to anyone without getting something in return. Imagine if she was responsible for Kaido's death in response to the power she offered him (akuma no mi) in the God Valley Incident, that might have saved his life. By taking his life, she would only be getting back what she offered him 38 years ago: Kaido's own life.

I always found that alliance between Marco and Perospero very odd, but now those scenes would make sense. I think it's also incredibly fitting if Big Mom ends up betraying and killing Kaidou after Luffy has defeated him, since this would mean Kaidou would die in a way totally opposite to the type of death he wants and it would also be a way to get him out of the story in a way that makes sense (instead of just having Luffy defeat him and then Kaidou crawling away from Wano and never coming back).
I don’t want Kaido to die. He is the most awesome and unique character in One Piece. To lose such a character would hurt just as much as when they killed off Whitebeard and Ace.

Imagine Kaido is the actual one who double crosses Big Mom and betrays. Like Kaido knows the similar tactics in WCI with Vinsmoke and alliance and learnt his lesson and before Big Mon could double cross Kaido, Kaido does it first.
Honestly I've been waiting for Big Mom to behead Kaidou for a very long time now,for several reasons. The whole unused plot point of Big Mom beheading her enemies being set up back in Zou. The Orochi beheading fake out. The Pound fake out. Kyros beheading Doffy only for it to be a fake out. All big fake outs involving an "off with their heads" motif that have played out ever since this saga began.
Off course, there was one beheading which wasn't a fake out at all. Zoro beheading a Dragon at Punk Hazard.
Kaidou's head's gonna fly, I guarantee it. My money is definitely on Big Mom swinging the blade.

There was a long list of all the attacks Kaido took from the Scabbards ambush all the way to Luffy's CoC punches. It is crazy when you see it listed and Kaido is seemingly fine after all that.
I'm still prepared to see Luffy win though. We all know it is coming.

the contrast between kaido and big mum is amazing, kaido's code of honour is about fair fights and the only people worthy of respect are the ones on par with him (we also see this in his speech after defeating luffy in the last fight *even if it was somewhat sarcastic*).

With BM literally stabbing Kaido, Luffy could come in and kick her ass for interrupting their duel. With Kaido not attacking Luffy while he is helping him out. This gives Kaido and even more high respect for Luffy and serves the purpose of showing this aspect of Kaido in a more concrete way.
An alternative would be Luffy helping to tank the hit for Kaido, though I personally doubt this.

Big Mom is collecting Kaido’s life debt.
This might just be the way that Wano ends. One of the big lingering questions people have is what's going to happen to Kaido by the end of Wano. Luffy isn't going to kill him (that's just not what he does), and Kaido is almost certainly too strong for the World Government to contain. If Big Mom is going to betray Kaido, maybe this means that after the battle is over, when Kaido is weakened, she'll literally stab him in the back and kill him. This would finally explain what Big Mom's role in the arc is. Not just to build on the themes of betrayal, but also to set it up so Kaido is out of the way for the final war.

This is actually one of the reasons I think the worst generation have to all ally with one another. A lot of the deep rooted beliefs about Piracy stems from the Rocks Pirates and how none of them got a long or trusted eachother. Somehow they became the model for how Pirates should be and you see that reflected in Kaido's crew and throughout the series. Which is why it makes sense to me that since this New World Saga is about the New Generation tearing down the Old one we should get a juxtaposition of the old way of Piracy shown to us in the New Generation of Pirates who do decide to genuinely trust and rely on one another and ultimately prove the notion of: "Pirate Alliances don't have happy endings" to be false. I see Wano ending with the 9 Supernova Captains Allying together under a new name and creating a new Era by setting a new standard of Piracy.
You are streaching it way waaaaaaaaaaayyyy to much. This theme that you are talking is already being told through Luffy and Law (and maybe even Kid), but adding other worst generation members (also remeber that worst generation includes blackbeard, you probably are talking only about the supernovas) suddently here does not make sense. And even more, Kid would never do anything with appo again, and probably not want anything with Hawkins too (and Drake is a Marine). We will have this theme play out, but only what is being built since Sabaody Archipelago with Luffy, Law and probably Kid.

Jinbe will betray the Straw Hats and is secretly working for Big Mom.
That goes against everything we know about Jinbei, the man of conviction. It would be a cheap twist that wastes a character. If anyone is betraying the Straw Hats, it’s Law by being secretly a member of Sword.

It is possible since even though Big mom is terrible she never let's her people starve, But Kaido doesn't care. And she is pissed because Tama told her that she used to eat very less. Possible
I agree with all your points. But I would rather have kaido betray big mom as I do not want kaido to be defeated half heartedly with tricks, kaido is the biggest obstacle luffy has faced and luffy needs to defeat him in a fight( not necessarily one on one) to grow as a pirate.
But I also think that betrayal is really important for this arc.
