  • “Son, once you get those training wheels off,” Mark said, “I’ll buy you your first motorcycle.”
    A day later, Haven could ride his first bicycle without training wheels. Soon, he was on a motorcycle…at three years old. “I just thought it was so cool that I could go so fast, and everything was a blur, and I got to do it myself,” Haven says. “I was really free, I think I always held on to that.”
    All of the signs present in a typical workshop are here: work benches, welding supplies, spare parts, but the warehouse Mark and Haven live in has been the focal point of their relationship and projects. Now a teenager, Haven has been turning heads with his first few custom motorcycles-that he’s made all by himself.

      I also put a lawnmower engine on a bike but it is a 18hp vertical shaft briggs intek on a 1974 indian me 100 and it's almost done, been building it for about a year now and she rides great and looks great too cause it's soo unique being as it has a vertical shaft engine. I use to never even like motorcycles till my brother passed away last year and he loved riding them all the time so I figured I would try to make one even though I only build computers and have never done anything with an engine.

    Very very very cool video. Hats off to dad and to Haven.
    Haven, after the clutch is let out, bad habit to have even 1 finger resting on the clutch. You have ALL FOUR on the clutch and the lever is actually being pulled in, wearing the clutch out! EEK!
    Fingers off the clutch, and have fun. Look forward to more builds. My wife has a CL70 and I have a BSA like your dads!

    So cool. An American father & son, doing something soooo American; modifying motorcycles & cars to drive & race! It's a FACT that most of the early Honda's were bought by Americans, and many Americans modified, hopped up or customized their "bike" one way or another. And the early hot rodding craze, well, once again...American. God I love this country!

      +88thetruth88 Not really a whole lot of difference there.

    • @PistonAvatarGuy
      @PistonAvatarGuy 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +88thetruth88 I couldn't care less about how much a car costs, I doubt this kid would either. You don't drive money around. The looks of a car and the driving experience are what gearheads care about. I'm envious because I've never been in a position where I could worry about what my car looked like. Modern Beetle engines are often quite a bit more powerful than what was offered in the 356.

    • @PistonAvatarGuy
      @PistonAvatarGuy 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +88thetruth88 For all intents and purposes, a 356 is basically an early Beetle, there's not a whole lot of meaningful differences between them. This kid is building a what is basically a 356 replica, so the driving experience and the looks of the car will basically be the same. Later air cooled Beetle engines can be made to be quite a bit more powerful than 356 engines because there is an enormous amount of aftermarket support for them.

    • @PistonAvatarGuy
      @PistonAvatarGuy 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +88thetruth88 It's not the same car, it's a replica, of course it's going to be different! I said MEANINGFUL differences! Even the unique parts on a 356 are very similar to Beetle parts, there's no MEANINGFUL difference there. Fuck, man, what is your problem? What did this conversation accomplish? What was your goal?

    wow! great story! This question doesn't have to do with the bikes, but your c10 apache. I have one im restoring with my dad and I can't seem to get the turn signals to work, the lights in the dash will come on, and stay on. I think it may be because of the cheap LED's i put in, but i am not sure. Maybe you'll know? Thanks!

    This is why schools are wrong. We need to put the tools in the kid's hands and let them learn hands on. Many don't learn by sitting in the class taking notes. Bring in some old lawn mower motors and teach the kids how to get them working. I think many would rather that than being in a stuffy classroom taking notes all day. Throw out french class, social studies, and science. What jobs require those? Not too many. English is important up to a point and math is very important and that's about it. Everything else learned in schools is mostly a waste of time. When will kids need to learn about the periodic table of elements, rock formations, identifying different rock types, what different cultures long since past were like? I really don't care and I know most kids feel the same way. Almost none of us will be politicians, historians, scientists or chemists.
    Cut the crap and teach them important stuff. Hand them some tools and tell them to build a cabinet. Some may not like things that are part of certain trades and that's fine. But by doing them, they can not only gain the skills they will need for when they leave school but they can also gain valuable experience as well. School does not prepare kids for the real world and it's undeniable that this father has done an excellent job of preparing his child for the real world and has given his child a passion for something that can turn into a career. He has done what our failure of an educational system couldn't.

    Great video! My dad was and is an alcoholic, I say was cause I managed to help him reduce the level of alcohol he consumes, it was a nightmare.
    I have lived with him for several years, I fell in love with classic cars, bought my own and he taught me about mechanical work. I have always wanted to have a father like the dad in this video, this kid is very blessed, lucky, to have a dad like him. However, I love my dad and I will always be grateful that he gave me the knowledge to work on cars and right now, I'm working on my first motorcycle :) I'm subscribing thanks.

    Dad`s pay attention ...this is how you do it, son`s (and daughters) try to be the kid that deserves it! Fortunately I had that kind of dad, but when it came my turn to be one ...I fell short, regret it everyday and there`s NO REWIND! Thanks to you BOTH for sharing, hope it impacts a lot of people, and I`m sure it will! God Bless!

    Road my first bike at 4ish, a blue and white pw50, but was never allowed to own one growing up. This kids passion along with his dads is amazing. I would love for this kid to have his hand in transforming my dream 1973 Honda CB 350 Green/gold flake tank into reality. True passion is something to envy.

    This man has given a legacy for his son to carry on, and likely the son will do that for his own child one day. What legacy will you or I leave to the next generation? I wonder who are the maladjusted people that clicked the down-thumbs? This was a great story and a great short film. Petrolicious is an awesome channel!

    As a 14 year old kid, I also dreamed of having a motorcycle and supportive father that could help me to get some projects done.
    Don't get me wrong, I've got my fare share of all that, I'm not complaining... but this kid has got way beyond that.
    Fantastic video, congratulations again Petrolicious.
