"He is Brian Naylor off the television screen, and he's the same Brian Naylor *on* the screen." Truer words couldn't have been said better from Sir Eric Pearce himself.
There has never been a better TV newsreader anywhere in the world. He always seemed curious, analytical, strong and compassionate. And, without political correctness, his words never offended or alienated anyone.
This is just like when Jane Doyle retired from Seven News Adelaide 24 years later in 2022 after when Brian Naylor retired from Nine News Melbourne 24 years earlier in 1998 & then Peter Hitchener took over weeknight duties for Nine News Melbourne, whilst Rosanna Mangiarelli & Will Goodings (son of the legendary Adelaide newsreader Graeme Goodings) took over weeknight duties for Seven News Adelaide exactly 25 years later.
Miss Brian - a prominent instrument in the soundtrack of 90s Melbourne. But just looking at this, the news itself was far better produced and read than today

Brian simply was the news in Melbourne. His tragic death was heartbreaking. He’s dearly missed.
Brian Naylor was indeed one of the best! I was deeply saddened with news of his passing. May he and his wife RIP. 🙏🏻

So tragic the way he and his wife passed. Good bless.
And now Peter Hitchener himself has stepped back 25 years later.

From that Moment after, Peter Hitchener took over the Weeknight Hosting Duties and he's still going strong Today.
As a kid, I always hoped Hitchener would be his successor when he retired..
