Thank you for doing this. I have the the same ETS FMIC and was worried about fitment. Surprising Marsh doesn't include this type of detail for their customers. I wouldn't have placed an order if it wasn't for this video.
Yes, many were disappointed that their current FMIC kits from other manufacturers could not fit. This was carefully planned with lots of requested pictures of different angles given to me by Marsh Composites themselves, and me doing photoshops of different FMIC kits.
Thank you for this video my man, Ive been looking for this hood the past couple days and YOU saved the day. P.S. thanks for the laughs as well. Gotta love those planes
There are a couple minor imperfections however they're verrrry small to notice until you get close enough. It will be painted eventually so I wouldn't be concerned at all.
Just make sure your mounts stay in good shape, I had a buddy had a mount go bad and the motor jumped a bit while driving and cracked his carbon fiber hood. Looks great tho man, subie goals for sure.
It fits! Holly shit man. That looks so awesome! I love it. I’ll be sad if you quit TH-cam. I’ve been watching your no nonsense mods for like 5 years. But I understand man. Anyway the hood looks awesome! Great stuff as usual.
Beautiful hood. That's kind of where I was looking to go in the future. Just order the carbon hood. Two issues of look at or the same ones. Your address again the video clearance and the lead for hood latches or not. Thanks for the video. Have a good one
Do you think this would work with a ibr brz manifold kit? Wondering how far down that scoop goes, and or how much I would have to trim of that beautiful hood.
Thank you for this video! Great insight I too have a ets front mount and I’m planning on buying this hood. Still A little nervous though because I have a 2010 🤞🏻
Check out TJ Hunt's audi R8 hood. I think if you did something similar where you paint most of it white and leave some of the carbon exposed it would look amazing. Just check out his car and you'll know what I mean. His is white too.
Thanks for the idea. I've photoshopped the hood being painted in many ways, even that way. Being that the heat extractors are way deeper than on his Audi R8, in my eyes, it just doesn't look right. I can see it being okay on a ViS or Varis hood, but not so much on this one.
FINALLY another option for the car, I haven’t seen this design of hood around. Everyone’s go to is the Seibon with the vents on both sides and the scoop in the center. Bud another question for yah, where did you get those red hoses for the engine. I’m looking to upgrade all my hoses in my bay.
Yeah at first, I was looking for a flat hood but no one makes them. So this was the only option. The Seibon and ViS hood are useless for FMIC if the scoop is still there. Those hoses are from HPS. I bought 6 and 8mm boost hoses and 8mm coolant hoses.
Totally agree with you bud! All that area being rammed in through a scoop when you have a front mount is pointless! Your car is coming along great man keep it up. I’m saving up to go balls to the wall... a full out IAG extreme block with stage 5 heads.
I just worry about like pulley bolts getting rusted over time. Any bolts really. I like the battery relocation as well. That is another concern you've handled. Was that a cobb box with a little DIY around a ets intake?
Rust can happen even with a regular hood. Depending on how much salt is in the road or air. I live in Hawaii but some places aren't as bad as others. The pulleys are hidden under the hood so rain doesn't fall on it directly. As for other bolts. They're cheap to replace if they go bad. So far nothing has started to look rusty at the moment.
So I can see this will provide optimal flow for the intercooler and radiator. However, would this help with heat generated by the turbo, downpipe, and even engine block? Just asking because I know the Varis Circuit Hood for FMIC has vents along the entire hood vs this only having vents on the nose portion. Thanks!
It will not. ETS is the only confirmed FMIC kit that will fit. I tried measuring the other manufacturers and they will all hit the left and right heat extractors.
Even though you haven’t made the ducting does the hood still provide more function Than a regular vented hood ? I’m curious because once I go front mount bigger turbo I will probably get this hood seen it for a while now.
Yes. Placing vents on a stock hood only helps a little since the hood scoop is introducing more air in the engine bay than what the vents can extract. A dedicated reverse vented hood with large extractors, even without proper ducting, does much better.
Quick question, are you using the stock hood struts or does the hood come with new ones? My understanding was that if the hood is lighter the stock struts will produce constant upward pressure. Thus you see many guys running cf hoods only using old school hood rods to keep hood open. Not sure if my understanding is correct, thanks
Good eye. It's actually a Fluidampr harmonic damper. I was getting misfires and roughness counts on #3 cylinder with the GS pulley. When going up in power, you need a heavier damper to absorb the frequencies. Since then I haven't gotten any misfires or roughness counts. The engine also idles and runs smoother.
@@octurbojoe Thank you for the quick reply. You inspired me to keep my sti as reliable as possible. Another question, what your opinion on lighter flywheel? My current mods are, carbonfiber driver shaft, tomei titanium catback, cobb sf intake. Thinking about upgrading to lighter flywheel for less rotational weight. Thank you in advance:)
@@honglin5143 Too light of a flywheel will cause misfires. The engine needs inertia to counteract the forces. If you do go with a lighter flywheel, stick a proper damper in the front. I also have a CF driveshaft and have been debating on a lighter flywheel myself to go with my future clutch upgrade. I thought about getting a lightened steel flywheel that isn't too much of a featherweight. After all, it's still a daily.
That would be nice but unfortunately, there isn't one on their site. They have a CF version of the stock hood. www.marshcomposites.com/product/subaru-gr-dry-carbon-hood-08-14
I know the video is a year old. But I'm looking at this hood once I install my intercooler. Thanks for the video brother!

getting the same hood, this video answered the question of which FMIC kit to get. Super clean car! greetings from NYC!

Always been the ultimate street STI to me ..... fantastic work on your car as always
Thank you sir! 🙏🏽

That quality is so insane. I did not see one imperfection in the carbon nor pinholes/bubbles in the clear coat. True carbon fiber porn.
There are a couple minor imperfections however they're verrrry small to notice until you get close enough. It will be painted eventually so I wouldn't be concerned at all.
nice to see you back Joe!! My buddy made a hood like that 10 years ago. He said it really helped. He has an STI for time attack in Poland.
Glad to hear that

Mounts will be replaced next month when I install my Killer B oil pan. Been in the parts bin but haven't had the time to do it. Thanks for the tip!
It fits!

Thanks. I do my best to provide useful information and not click bait garbage.
Just ordered mine for my 2012 Sti super excited to see it in person.

Just another few months boss
Oh yes Papa Joe uploads a video finally
