Do you find yourself struggling with overspending or buying things you don’t really need? Is there something you would like to change in 2025? What’s one purchase you made recently that you regret and why? Do you have tips that have helped you stop buying things? Do you think it’s possible to break free from the cycle of overconsumption, or do you feel like it’s too hard to escape? Also, what percent is your phone on 🔋 Mine is on 87% 😁
I struggle with buying clothes and accessories. I’m trying to unsubscribe from stores emails and remove their apps from my phone. I have a goal of saving $10K in 2025 and also paying off debt.
The problem is if you have the issue of overconsumption, even things like food, which is a need, becomes an issue. I have multiple deep freezers, for food, because it was on sale, but still grocery shopping weekly. Hoarding really is a deep rooted emotional issue.
I recently cancelled my Amazon membership. I keep finding myself going back to it, but part of my goal is that if I am going to buy wants, I want to do it in my hometown. Doing the research to find local businesses and spend in your community also slows down overconsumption because it is so much more conscious when I do spend.
Im bad with Amazon. Not hauls but still use it too much. And the youtube influencers, yes. And fb ads. Gah! Luckily my parents come up here a lot so my one guest bedroom gets used. :)
that's a great way to look at it. I bet you save a lot of money doing that! Make sure that you still have that balance though nothing wrong with doing things within your budget when you have the money to do it. ❤
The "Stop buying stuff for imaginary guests" rant is real. I had a good laugh at that. I had to stop doing that because it is a waste of money and space 😂
I started getting serious about paying off my CC debt after watching your videos, they really were a wake up call. Stared at 10k and only 3k left to pay off then CANCELLING THE CARD, I will not be getting trapped again!!
Consuming as little social media as possible (as in just 1h of Instagram a week) is the biggest factor powering my "self control" to resist unnecessary purchases. It's not really self control, I'm just not bombarding myself several hours every day to people trying to sell me stuff or displaying their consumerism.
I'm glad younger and younger people realise how overconsumption is just short-term treatment of a symptom and not the cause. But it is terrifying how young people are and already in debt from shopping and hoarding things!
One of my favorite things to do with my kids when we watch TV or TH-cam is called “Find the lie” when we watch an ad/commercial. There’s almost always a lie in every ad. It’s a good exercise to combat needless consumerism.
I know Larysa Caba. she trades for everyone I know. I met her twice at a meeting in Germany and after her lectures from Ella I had to personally ask her to be my financial advisor. she is definitely good.
I have never seen a trader as open and transparent as Larysa Caba with her clients. The way she decides to make a profit for her clients. she allows you to express your fears and she still rests your fears and that is my respect. I don't normally comment on videos, but this word should be included. she is really cool.
like that the first girl said "you will always find a reason to need something". a lot of people use "but i need this" that as a maxim to dodge accountability when they have to confront frivolous expenses. or extrapolating otherwise okay expenses. no matter how much you make, "needs" and "wants" are infinite, while money is finite. it's important to be honest with ourselves and give ourselves some tough love.
Really??? Do they come often? Or do they help pay for your living area? I'm not asking sarcastically either. I am genuinely curious because that is the case for some people. lol
I have a second bedroom because it’s huge closet was cheaper than a small storage unit. It’s been really convenient to have those so accessible. But if the numbers stop making sense it’s back to one bedroom apartment for me
I'm glad that that is the case for you. A lot of the time the numbers don't make sense for people and they still try to make it work. It can work as long as they go make more money!
I've dumbified my phone to the point that I only have youtube, music (not Spotify, but the good old mp3's), and the essential banking apps. I moved all online shopping, food ordering, social media etc to my PC so I have to go out of my way to shop around. I find that it's so much easier to save money now that I don't have constant ads and influencers trying to make me feel FOMO. Don't get me wrong, I still have issues spending too much (thanks adhd) but I'm getting there, it's definitely far from what it was 3 years ago! Learn your weaknesses and triggers and try to be better, but don't judge yourself if you take a step back, learn from it and move on💖
Also to add, it's ok if you don't look like everyone else or are keeping up. I've always lived under a rock and not been into trends, the people I know, no matter if they do or don't keep up with trends, don't care what I look like or what I don't know. If anything, they get to see my first reaction to a lot of stuff and get a fresh perspective/discussion. The ones who judge you are not worth your time, if you know who you are and have your own style/stuff you like, you will accumulate good people around you who won't judge you for being you!
I’m disgusted when I think about those companies. The stuff is full of carcinogens. A lot of people buy it and wear it without washing it. All I can think about is the toxins around my kids at school.
I'm not gonna pretend I don't get it, as it depends on the person. I don't really watch TV, but I couldn't live without my headphones or my audio system 😂
Definitely a fan of a good dupe, and NOT afraid of a washing machine lol! I haven't invested in my wardrobe in a few years but I've received a lot of donations from my sisters. I've been wasting money on beauty products though.....I've got a New Year's resolution: low-buy/no-buy!
Moving across the US recently made my partner and me realize just how little we actually need/want. We had to get rid of pretty much everything aside from a couple of suitcases each, our PCs, and a few sentimental knick knacks because it wasn’t economical to ship everything (and there was a LOT OF JUNK that we didn’t even know we had, holy cow). One thing we realized we definitely don’t need is a TV. They’re freaking expensive, take up a lot of space, and rack up the electric bill. Plus it’s so nice having a living room geared toward spending time with others rather than having the TV be the center of the space.
Thank you I am so glad that they help you and so proud that you opened a high savings account. This is HUGGGGGGGEEEEEE!!!! ❤❤❤ Very responsible and wise! These are the type of comments I'd love to see! I hope this inspires more people to invest in themselves in someway whether that's a high yield savings account in emergency fund a 401(k) or even a brokerage account if they like stocks. all of the videos in the world don't matter if you don't apply what you learn and do the work and YOU HAVE DONE IT! I am so happy for you!!!
I have bought Skims and the quality is very good imo. I wouldn’t bother with dupes (I hate them anyway, like why not by the real thing?). Also I bought a white couch and my friends were like “OMG it’s going to get dirty, people are going to mess it up.” I responded telling them I don’t buy stuff for my house for others. Plus I don’t intend on hosting because I like my house and don’t want it messed up.
I had a small savings jar already started that was meant for visiting my sister, whom I’ve gotten closer with lately, but after having seen a handful of your videos, I changed gears and decided it should be the emergency fund that for some reason my family and I don’t already have.
I just found your channel about a month ago. And because of you I started a no buy. I’m not going to lie I struggled in the beginning BUT week over week I have spent less money and yes I had a bad week about a week or two ago but I kept going. This week I had an extra $50 leftover and was able to pay down a little debt I had PLUS I had an extra $15 in change to also put to my debt. I started off spending around $180 a week plus whatever I put on my credit cards this week I have spent $60. Thank you!!!
You have no idea how much your videos helped me, especially your perfume video, I wish you did more of those! I used to spend all my paychecks on perfumes and I just hoarded so much so absolutely no reason other than to have imaginary competitions with strangers online of who has more. That video, and all your videos, really changed my perspective on saving money. Im doing so much better now! Havnt purchased a perfume in ages😂😂😂❤❤
2:15 I went through this thought process with Anthropologie, wanted to spend on serving dish-ware and I thankfully didn’t buy but also I haven’t had anyone over and it’s been a year 😂😢 saved that money!
I have been going through this for years! I’m always wondering if I should buy serveware and the truth is… no one has come over for dinner or any meals in, like, 6 years. I don’t have any and I’ve finally taken it off my to-buy list.
Living BENEATH YOUR MEANS is so important. I stopped wearing wigs and weave 10 years ago. I've saved so much money from this I bought a car NO CAR PAYMENT and I can whether economic downturn. The elites don't want us to be FRUGILE and cheap, because it will lead to lower prices which means LESS PROFITS.
We use to host out of town family a lot before we had kids. Now we have 3 kids so all 4 bedrooms are occupied. A few years back my aunt suggested that I buy a bigger house🤦🏻♀️ I told her hell no and that people can start staying in hotels when visiting. Since we’re a family of 5 we prefer staying in hotels so not to be a bother.
I have made a rule for myself that I first need to try to get the things I want at an actual store before I order it online. It gives me the pause to decide if I actually want the item or if I want the dopamine rush of purchasing that item
This is why I follow this channel it keeps me in perspective, I paid off all my cc debt this year, and now im.saving when I say I felt so broke for not being able to do anything but pay debt , now I feel better and think at least thats done, but this is my no spend year except for food
One thing you should cover is how Amazon sales lie. They will mark up a product and sale it for a bit hire than the original price making it look like it was on a discount. If you know a product will be on sale add it to your cart then "safe for later" amazon will add "Important messages about items in your Cart:" and will tell you if the price decreased or increased. If you want to know if it's actually at a discount... highly recommend price matching because as much as I love Amazon it really does have sketchy pricing.
While i can't speak for Instagram and tiktok cause i don't use those, on TH-cam you can turn off recommendations, so you're not going to get random videos giving you ideas about things you never would have thought you could buy. Also, no amazon in my country 😅 Yay
A friend of mine bought all types/designs of coffee maker machines. Different brands etc…plus she keeps upgrading them as she says…and you will always hear her say “this way I don’t spend a lot of money on buying coffee everyday”. She recently bought the Jura GIGA automatics coffee maker. Y’all wanna guess how much it costs?🤷♀️🤦♀️
Hi Miss Symone! I wanted to thank you for how helpful your videos have been for me! You are amazing!! I was wondering, with all the holidays coming up, if you wouldn’t mind doing a video on how much we spend on gifts, or things to impress family and friends? (I know you already touched on this in a lot of other videos) It just seems like there are so many ways gift giving weighs down on us. Even if it’s not trying to impress someone but rather that we feel guilty we weren’t able to get something as nice or as many things that someone gave us. I have a very big family and it has taken me years to be able to just tell myself not everyone is expecting a gift. I still feel guilty about it though. A lot of times they are just happy to see you and know you are thinking about them. Some times they are just as ecstatic to receive a letter as they are a present. And sometimes we use gifts as an excuse to shop which put me personally in a lot of debt. I just thought maybe someone else may be feeling this way too. Thank you for your awesome videos!!!
Love your content Symone. For me, minimising my time on social media has helped a lot. I was never really a person who was influenced easily to buy things and i've never had a shopping addition thankfully but I've noticed that by not being on social media as much I have definitely stopped wanting to buy things as often as I'm not comparing myself to others and I just use the things I already have. And i definitely agree with quality over quantity! sometimes the dupes are great but other times its better to buy the real deal and this will save you money in the long term.
Your comment/advice regarding “do you need the big screen; do you need the 8k TV?” “No, no you don’t!!!” Thanks for this I have been waiting for this validation since all my working friends have those. Me, however? I’m on disability, so I’m gonna check out some second hand/pre-used TV’s on Facebook marketplace/ebay and local advertisers. Once again you saved me alot of money. 💵 ❤
11:30 I used to watch Kathleenlights Michelle Reed Steph B etc like I thought these contents were better and genuine until I did an audit (after accumilating debt) I started to become aware of how much I bought because I watched their videos. Even if they do not directly say it or even if they preach "guys dont spend your money. " they are still selling. It is their job I guess. But now I stopped. I started watching Ramit Sethi videos and actually paid off Debt!
Binging your videos since last week has helped me into solidifying my resolution to become more frugal and smarter with my purchases as we get closer to 2025. I even started saving up for an emergency fund and savings fund! Your videos helped me a lot!
Mine would be buying fancy clothes and accessories for that one event, one wedding, one party and then struggling to pay and store them. Plus the utility of that one thing is limited. This opened my eyes, thank you!
I love your content so much Symone ❤ I watch every single posts and keep looking forward to your new video every week. Sending love from Australia 🇦🇺 ❤
Facts! 😂 The hubs wants to move into a bigger house. I’m kind of over it. Who’s going to clean it?!????? Dust is often my objection when he suggests getting unnecessary decor in our current home. People barely come to visit us now so we ended up renting out one of our extra rooms (the one with the bed) on Furnished Finders. Best decision ever! Second best decision: Only order every 2-3 months from Amazon for those things I really don’t need but I’ve saved up enough to splurge on these few items that seem worthwhile. I allow one additional necessities order monthly or just go to Target.
This was so insightful and eye-opening! I've noticed that Shein sometimes locks me out of scrolling unless I enable their annoying notifications! They're like "Hi Bestie! 💓 We think this would suit you!" 😭
It's just funny to me how now people come on the internet to talk about things that are common sense and that other people have been doing for years... decades... centuries... and they act like it's a new found secret that's going to revolutionize life for everyone.... "Can I live without this?".... she says that like she invented the wheel.... wth is going on with the world?
For real tho because my mother taught about the "wants and needs" as a child which is why i am so frugal now i thought i was going crazy watching the video
I buy things I need and I want, but I try to plan my purchases. And I plan as much as I can my budget. I am single mother who still wants to take care of myself and need to take of my kids. I honestly tried beauty box for 2 months and its too much stuff that I dont need. Also I plan to do some procedures at home like microneedling but in no way to rush things, before buying even skin care product I research what it is most suitable for my skin, then look and comoare prices. Just a tip for those on budget, try to do a sinking fund. Like I am going to a sinking fund for dental care and another one for beauty where I can set aside like 20 euros or more and use them on my skincare producta or procedures. I prioritise savings, necessary expenses, debt, my education.
I have been homeless for a year- I finally got my own apartment! - and I just had a thought yesterday… I have had people help me get things like pants and shoes for work and just in general. And it made me uncomfortable to see how many pairs of shoes I have now compared to a year ago. Even though the number is just 4 it’s weird. Will I use them? Absolutely. 100%. I will wear them to death. It’s still just really weird
There are three ways I do when I’m feeling spendy: 1. Remind myself of the necessities that I could buy with this money: rent, utility, food. 2. Clean my house every week: you’ll be surprised by how much junk you’ve forgotten if you don’t organize your house often. 3. If it’s an extra money, put that towards to my stocks or saving funds that grow money. I can withdraw the money anytime I need it, but I almost never withdraw it because it grows more the longer I left it in.
As things stand, I'm doing a large purge so that I can clear storage containers to use as planters come spring. I have come to the realization that I have an overabundance of clothing that I don't need. Lots of things to take over to Exhale.
My house has 1 extra bedroom that we use as a guest room because my parents often stay overnight, spending at least a week's worth of time with us per month. That guest room is functional and nothing else; it DESPERATLY needs a new coat of paint, but right now the budget won't allow it. You'd be surprised at how most people won't bat an eye at something that's a little "rundown" or "lesser" when it's fulfilling a need of theirs, whether that's being hosted at a home or being given a meal. Seeing that has helped me be ok with the work-in-progress state of my home and not breaking the bank to rush and make things pretty.
There's this post Soviet mentality that instead of a normal bed you need to have a couch in case someone comes and they have to sit somewhere. As a result a lot of children even in well-off families sleep on couches/sofas. When my family was moving and my dad started talking about getting a couch for my room I said fuck them potential guests I'm sleeping in a normal bed.
do u have any recs for celebrating your birthday? never had one growing up so i went hardcore when i got to adulthood and didn't care about cc debt. but now that i've been able to tame my bad habits (thx to your videos!!) i'm not sure what I should do to celebrate??
One option is to not do anything consumeristic for your birthday. You can write your child self, current self and future self beautiful letters, you can dress up in your favourite clothes and do your hair and makeup as you'd do for a big celebration, you can try to capture in video all the beauty that surrounds you and have that to look back on next year. You can also not do anything special and just feel the gratitude of being alive. Anything you do can be special if you feel that way about it. Hope you have a beautiful birthday!
I don’t think I have a bad shopping problem, but I recently had to get a new car because my old car was costing more than it was worth. I’m only 20 and debt absolutely terrifies me so my goal is to pay off my car as fast as possible, so paying more than the minimum payment every month. Your videos have been helping me eliminate unnecessary spending so I can focus on paying off my new car. Thankyou!
In addition to savings and investment accounts, please buy good disability insurance. I became disabled in my mid 30s. My ex-husband talked me out of getting disability insurance when I got my first professional job out of grad school. I deeply regret listening to him. My Social Security disability monthly check is about what my 2-week take home pay was when I was able to work.
My very real, very expensive LV back ripped at a seem in 2 yrs…I prepared to buy that bag for much longer than that especially since some stupid Marshalls bag has lasted me like 10 plus yrs 🥴 I think LV wanted like 500$ to fix it and it took an ungodly amount of time…therefore mine as well but cheap! It’s all the same…same when I used to buy expensive ass VS panties and yet the target ones would last longer 🤦🏻♀️🙄
I feel like social media in general is just convincing you to buy things you don’t need. Having stuff for guests is something I‘m guilty of myself. I realized my family come tops once a year it‘s not worth is to have a room for that. They can have my bed i‘ll sleep on the couch 😅
I have turned things I may “want” in terms of frivolous but not overly expensive purchases into my Christmas/birthday lists to give people a variety of things to choose from. My family loves Christmas and we have people who are from a variety of incomes but I have also said that I am also someone who loves acts of service so if they want to come help me deep clean my kitchen and I pay them the gas & feed and house them for the day & maybe overnight I consider that an extremely thoughtful gift as well. Time can also be an incredible gift. I like having my friends over, but I don’t have “special dishes for when guests come over”, I may have a nice wood cutting board I made in my highschool woodworking class, but I don’t go out of my way to make my household look “aesthetic” when people come over. It is clean, maybe a little messy in some areas but clean. I definitely have had an issue spending more money than I would like to and I may have some hobbies that are a little expensive but I budget for them and I hold myself back from unnecessarily buying stuff that I then have to find places for unless it’s something I genuinely want.
I definitely have areas to improve on, but I have kept the same bed for 20 years. I keep all electronics until they die, old cell phones, etc. My bad spots are take outs and seasonal decor. I have improved on clothes. Nothing new for half a year now.
The imaginary guests put a lot of stuff in perspective. My parents do visit twice a year - they're happy to sleep on the air mattress (when they get older they're just gonna sleep in my bed and I'll sleep on the air mattress). I got a nice one so they don't gotta get up off the floor, but that room is usable when they're not here the other 50 weeks of the year. But I have all this entertaining stuff for people I don't entertain! I don't live the life that matches a lot of the stuff I have - and frankly looking 10 20 years down the road, I'm never gonna be that lady.
I felt like these days, there were times where I tiptoed the fine line towards over consumption. But luckily I haven’t. I don’t use TikTok though. So mostly, nobody has influenced me to go out and buy something. Especially from Their shop. My case is a bit of an odd one. At one point in my early childhood life, I felt like there was this dynamic in the family that would ‘bully’ me or if I wanted to buy something for myself. Or if I thought I did want something as a kid, I was made to feel bad for even having that kind of thought in the first place. Even if I was told not to be spoilt as a kid, I totally get it. But It kind of transitioned as I got older into some kind of subconscious where I just…did not want any anything new. I didn’t want any Christmas gifts. Birthday gifts. Or if someone gave me a gift, I would sometimes have an aversion to them because I just couldn’t think what I could do with them. This developed some time when I was really little. So for basically more than a decade, I just didn’t bother getting new clothes. I think I kept them until they tore holes into them. Some of These clothes were also old. As in, hand me downs from the 80s or 90s from family. I thought that if I spent very very little, I was a ‘good girl’ who saved a lot. And that may be true to an extent. It’s only during a few years ago when I was realizing my family dynamic and trying to stand up for myself. I had always really low confidence in both mentality and my looks. I realized that a part of my confidence tied to how I dress. So then before I knew it, one of my goals was to try and change myself bit by bit. And the first thing I did, was to shop for a ‘new wardrobe’. But only buying the clothes I really think I do need. And clothes that really did suit me for once in my life. Some of the older and outdated clothes I had, I either boxed them up to wear in the future if I was still attached to them. Or I donated some to second hand stores. Some of my torn clothes, I got the help from my lovely seamstress mother. While some beyond repair, I had to throw out. But now, I’m fixing my wardrobe up to make myself look good. And so far, it has been healing for me, as i’ve been getting more compliments than I used to on my style. Which never happened before. Sorry for the long paragraph! But what is most important of all, is for there to be balance. Think real long and hard if you really need something. And if you decided to get something, Do a good amount of Research behind a product, so you can get a good price of your worth. These days when I see something I want, it takes me a couple of days to really see if I need it. Comparing prices and such. One time I really wanted to buy headphones just because it was on sale. But then thinking about it, I came to the conclusion that it’s just not my style. And my old headphones can survive a few more years. If
I have stop buying things except food. Only buy the necessities or skincare that my skin really needs. I have thrown most makeup out and just kept what works for me. Until I am done with the makeup and need a new one I would repurchase otherwise anything that is a want can be kept for when I just want to spoilt myself at times.
0:56 see but if I operated off of this question my literal ass would have nothing but appliances in my house 😂 we got a toothbrush... we got a bar of soap... we have a pad on the floor and one blanket... there's NOTHING in the living room.. there's one set of something to eat off of in the kitchen and one type of pot and pan 😂😂 like... I get it and I'm glad this method worked for her and others but it would just complicate things further for me😂
Whenever I pick up peoples orders door dashing I be like plastic lids Styrofoam cups Styrofoam everything I hope this makes it to the customers house 😂😂😂 But they don’t want to eat out of bag or a paper plate
I, because I don’t believe in consumer debt, and am not rich, have to make choices. I don’t just weigh the cost of something in absolute terms. I also weigh the opportunity costs. I would extend the advice about not keeping a home up for imaginary guests to stop performing generally in life for an imaginary audience. I think people consider an imaginary audience in way more consumer choices than we think. Even if that imaginary audience is just a fantasy version of ourself judging our real self’s choices.
Wow in answer to your questions here in the comments-- yes I consume things I do not in any way shape or form need. Craft supplies are an area I have trouble not buy buy buying. I am a lot better than I was. I swore off buying paper pads about 3 years ago because my pile of them would probably be as close to as tall as my 5'2" self. I haven't bought one since. Halloween I bought I think 6 new items. I didn't need ANY. So far for Christmas I have been very good. I only bought 4 blow molds for outside because I just didn't have much for the outdoors. (I bought nothing new for inside) I have a reindeer and a Star Shower for outside. I am quite content with what I now have in addition to that. But it is very hard to resist all of the pretty and cute Christmas items! I am indeed a hoarder. I have a LOT OF TROUBLE letting go. I also have a lot of clutter. My house and utilities are all functional. My bills are paid every month. I don't hoard trash. But I have I am sure literal tons of stuff. Not a resolution because they don't work for me, but I have a strong desire to purge and get organized in 2025. 🤞🤞
We have a 4 bedroom house and there is only my husband and I. However, I have a small business and use one bedroom for an office. My husband trades and he has one of the bedrooms. We have the master bedroom and a guest room. I know it sounds like too much of a house but where else could we live for $1000 a month?
I’m trying to get better at living with in my means

Im bad with Amazon. Not hauls but still use it too much. And the youtube influencers, yes. And fb ads. Gah! Luckily my parents come up here a lot so my one guest bedroom gets used. :)
I always ask, “if I lost my job, would I regret this purchase?” and it usually keeps me from making unnecessary purchases.
that's a great way to look at it. I bet you save a lot of money doing that! Make sure that you still have that balance though nothing wrong with doing things within your budget when you have the money to do it. ❤
Good one!!!
Genius!
Oh that’s good!
😮❤
One time I was apologizing for my house being a disaster, someone said “I didn’t come to see your house, I came to see you”
Good answer. I’m nicking that for my messy friends
The "Stop buying stuff for imaginary guests" rant is real. I had a good laugh at that. I had to stop doing that because it is a waste of money and space 😂
Guest rooms and serving trays are for a time long past. But it somehow lives on in our brains
@M_SC Very true!!
I don’t even have friends to invite over, why I need a guest set up?😂
I started getting serious about paying off my CC debt after watching your videos, they really were a wake up call. Stared at 10k and only 3k left to pay off then CANCELLING THE CARD, I will not be getting trapped again!!
Good job!! 🎉🎉
Don't cancel your card..Just use it every 6 months for a candy bar. Keep it open to help your credit score.
I just put my card on freeze. Need it for occasional travel
Yeah, do not close it. It will drop your credit score. Like someone said, use it every few months and pay off the entire amount when due.
Congratulations ❤
I started watching decluttering content creators a couple years ago and they really helped open my eyes to how much crap I don't need to buy anymore.
I think I need to start watching that type of content
@@davidhansen4193 Dana K. White is the goat with the decluttering content
Consuming as little social media as possible (as in just 1h of Instagram a week) is the biggest factor powering my "self control" to resist unnecessary purchases. I'm glad younger and younger people realise how overconsumption is just short-term treatment of a symptom and not the cause. But it is terrifying how young people are and already in debt from shopping and hoarding things!
Young adults have some money and for a while think now they can have everything. But sooner or later you get that no one has everything
One of my favorite things to do with my kids when we watch TV or TH-cam is called “Find the lie” when we watch an ad/commercial. There’s almost always a lie in every ad. It’s a good exercise to combat needless consumerism.
That is a gift to your kids
This is so important, especially for the Holidays! If I’m giving a gift, I’d rather give something practical that they couldn’t “live without”
That is so true the holidays impacts people so heavily with spending, especially gift giving!
I always give food that I know they'll enjoy so they can eat it and be done with it.
I got medicine for my birthday. lol. That might be extreme.
@@SaharaKnows I see what you mean! Haha that’s definitely a need but I hope it helped! I’ve given and received groceries for Christmas lol
@@Ms.MD7 love that! I’ve done the same 😊
This video really opened my eyes. I never realized how much I spend on things I don't need. It's time for a change before 2025 sneaks up on us.
You’re totally right. It's surprising how easy it is to fall into that trap. A little awareness goes a long way.
Exactly. I decided to take a closer look at my habits too. Finding someone to help with this has made a big difference.
For sure. I know someone named Larysa Caba who really helps people make smarter choices. She has great tips for managing money better.
I don't normally comment on videos, but this word should be included. she is really cool.
like that the first girl said "you will always find a reason to need something". a lot of people use "but i need this" that as a maxim to dodge accountability when they have to confront frivolous expenses. or extrapolating otherwise okay expenses. no matter how much you make, "needs" and "wants" are infinite, while money is finite. it's important to be honest with ourselves and give ourselves some tough love.
not my parents treating me like i'm rude because i don't want to have a guest room in my house
Really??? Do they come often? Or do they help pay for your living area? I'm not asking sarcastically either. I am genuinely curious because that is the case for some people. lol
😂 the nerve
My mom wanted me to get rid of my dog so she could stay with me
@@M_SC shameless!
@@M_SC I'm sorry? She wanted you to what!??
I have lived without a TV for 2 decades and I love it
i cannot wait for temu and shein to fail because those tariffs are gonna make people REALLY think about buying cheap shit from overseas
I’m disgusted when I think about those companies. The stuff is full of carcinogens. A lot of people buy it and wear it without washing it.
All I can think about is the toxins around my kids at school.
🎯
Can the hello kitty/tjmaxx crowd have an epiphany???????
Girl your skin is glowing
When the first girl said “can I live without my TV” I really thought she was going to say yes haha 😂
Right?! If you've got a phone do you really NEED a big tv? 😂 you can definitely get a deal buying secondhand but it's not a necessity 😂
Haha I mean technically yes 😅
What helped me years ago to get out of the “spend spend spend” mentality was watching minimalists, people decluttering, Hoarders, etc.
I love these financial type of videos you have been doing! Because of you I opened a High Yield Savings account. ❤
PERIODDDDD
I had a small savings jar already started that was meant for visiting my sister, whom I’ve gotten closer with lately, but after having seen a handful of your videos, I changed gears and decided it should be the emergency fund that for some reason my family and I don’t already have.
The aka “QVC” took me OUT!😂😂😂
I just found your channel about a month ago.
You can find great used serving sets at the thriftstore, just wash it and its good. Best way to find affordable and cute serving sets
Food, water, shelter and Medical Care!
Stop buying Polyester fast produced clothes. It’s a waste of of money but more importantly IT’S TERRIBLE FOR YOUR HEALTH
Chile yes!!!! It's is just QVC and HSN!
Seriously, it was fun while it lasted! 😆😆😆
Your sweater vest is so cute!! Love your content, keep it up ❤
This is why I follow this channel it keeps me in perspective, I paid off all my cc debt this year, and now im.saving when I say I felt so broke for not being able to do anything but pay debt , now I feel better and think at least thats done, but this is my no spend year except for food
Niece, you out here doin the Lord’s work. ❤
Nothing is wrong with being more minimalistic. ❤️
I agree
A friend of mine bought all types/designs of coffee maker machines. Different brands etc…plus she keeps upgrading them as she says…and you will always hear her say “this way I don’t spend a lot of money on buying coffee everyday”. She recently bought the Jura GIGA automatics coffee maker. Y’all wanna guess how much it costs?🤷♀️🤦♀️
How much it costs sis?

Hi Miss Symone! I wanted to thank you for how helpful your videos have been for me! You are amazing!!
I was wondering, with all the holidays coming up, if you wouldn’t mind doing a video on how much we spend on gifts, or things to impress family and friends? (I know you already touched on this in a lot of other videos)
It just seems like there are so many ways gift giving weighs down on us.
Skims dupes are cool for me because I REFUSE to support any Kardashian/Jenner product.
😂
I had to stop myself as well I lost so much money even got in so much debt all regrets now

Your comment/advice regarding “do you need the big screen; do you need the 8k TV?”
“No, no you don’t!!!” Thanks for this I have been waiting for this validation since all my working friends have those.

Kind of frustrating watching someone give sensible advice then in the same breath turn around and admit "I won't do it yet, but you ought to." 🤷🏾♂️
Mine would be buying fancy clothes and accessories for that one event, one wedding, one party and then struggling to pay and store them. Plus the utility of that one thing is limited. This opened my eyes, thank you!
"you watching ratchet stuff" 😂 I loved that
I love you, Symone!!! Your videos are so worth watching!!! 😭😭😭
Randomly came across this on my thread and love this video 🙂
I'm looking up the other ones on your channel now...
This was so insightful and eye-opening! I've noticed that Shein sometimes locks me out of scrolling unless I enable their annoying notifications!
They're like "Hi Bestie! 💓 We think this would suit you!" 😭
Amen to the bed story. I did that form my son and when he visits he chooses to sleep on the sofa!😂
For real tho because my mother taught about the "wants and needs" as a child which is why i am so frugal now
i thought i was going crazy watching the video
They probably weren’t raised with that lesson and have to figure it out for themselves.
There are three ways I do when I’m feeling spendy:
Hey Symone! Just wanted to thank you for your videos. They are really helpful and important in our day and age. Keep bringing light! 🤍✨
Thank you for supporting me. I appreciate you. I am so glad that I am able to help in anyway.💕
I've been saying this about the algorithms! The same people who say they hate ads sit on tiktok watching ads and dont even put it together.
Skims is quality, I love their solution wear tees lolol
But yes! The holiday season will sucker you in to overspend smh!
Wow, that's such an interesting take on things. The more you know! Also as you should get a bed! Kudos for putting you first!
I stopped spending money working retail cuz most things ppl buy are JUNK.
do u have any recs for celebrating your birthday? never had one growing up so i went hardcore when i got to adulthood and didn't care about cc debt. but now that i've been able to tame my bad habits (thx to your videos!!) i'm not sure what I should do to celebrate??
Thankyou!
Another phrase I heard that can help you from overspending is "if no one else could see this purchase would I still buy it?"
Yes Skims is tea! I’ve been wearing my one top for 3 years now😂
I have turned things I may “want” in terms of frivolous but not overly expensive purchases into my Christmas/birthday lists to give people a variety of things to choose from.
Great video!
I definitely have areas to improve on, but I have kept the same bed for 20 years. I keep all electronics until they die, old cell phones, etc.
My bad spots are take outs and seasonal decor. I have improved on clothes. Nothing new for half a year now.
Please don’t buy paper plates. You’re just throwing money out and being wasteful. Just serve things on the plates and bowls you use everyday, easy!
I need your voice recorded as an alarm saying "wake up!"
Me too
I felt like these days, there were times where I tiptoed the fine line towards over consumption.
If
Honestly, I could live without a tv as long as I have my phone.
I have stop buying things except food. Only buy the necessities or skincare that my skin really needs. I have thrown most makeup out and just kept what works for me. Until I am done with the makeup and need a new one I would repurchase otherwise anything that is a want can be kept for when I just want to spoilt myself at times.
"Can I live without this TV? No, I can`t!" So sad...
I get it and I'm glad this method worked for her and others but it would just complicate things further for me😂
I'm guilty of the guest room that has been used ONCE in 5 years in this house. Ugh. Wake up call.
... my brain goes "you only need food and water" throws out everything
Whenever I pick up peoples orders door dashing I be like plastic lids
Styrofoam cups
Styrofoam everything
I hope this makes it to the customers house 😂😂😂
But they don’t want to eat out of bag or a paper plate
6:14 I started doing this
I, because I don’t believe in consumer debt, and am not rich, have to make choices.
Can clear the youtube history so it will clear ur front page and on tiktok u can clear fyp in the settings and block key words
i say we need hygine as well besides food, water and shelter
We have a 4 bedroom house and there is only my husband and I. However, I have a small business and use one bedroom for an office. My husband trades and he has one of the bedrooms. We have the master bedroom and a guest room. I know it sounds like too much of a house but where else could we live for $1000 a month?
