This worked. For three days the dream apartment I just moved into smelled like bacon I cooked. I like to clean with natural chemicals and like to remove the odor rather than covering it up. I aired out the apartment for an hour. Then tried burning blue sage, Palo Santo and incense sticks. The bacon smell remained. The vinegar smell clears up quickly and I love that my apartment will soon smell like nothing.
Omg, the boiling water and vinegar was a lifesaver. I accidentally forgot to turn off a pot that had sausage in it... when I got home, the smell was ungodly awful... I burned candles for hours and nothing..... this got rid of the smell instantly.... I'd rather smell vinegar than that other smell... thank you!!!
Pro tips: After using the boiling vinegar water, pour the hot solution down the sink, especially the garbage disposal side! Always use the above range exhaust fan. If you have, close off the doors to the kitchen while cooking (often common in older homes. Not only does doing this help contain the cooking smells, but also the oil-filled cooking vapors, which dirty the walls, ceilings, carpet, etc. over time. Also if you have a whole house fan, open a window and turn on the whole house fan, after cooking. Wash up pots and stove, asap. Wash dishes/load dishwasher after eating. Discard old grease (this is huge) or at least strain and cover grease that you plan to reuse once more.
I boil cinnamon sticks and leftover orange peels (which I keep in a freezer bag anytime anyone eats an orange) in water. It works, but the next morning the cooking smell is back. I hesitate using your vinegar method, because I've made pickling liquid before, which involves boiling vinegar and that smell stays in the apartment too. Using your method, does the boiled vinegar smell dissipate once it's done it's job?
I always thought about an outdoor kitchen built in the house with lots of open screen windows and around the roof to if not you can cook outside in the open
Thanks, Melissa! I've been using boiling water/vinegar to remove lingering odors from non-stick pots and pans for years. I can't stand non-stick stuff for that reason alone. Vinegar is the universal cleaner of the gods.
I clean my oven after every use. I put some cold water, detergent and eucalypts oil in the bottom oven tray and let it steam for 15 mins on low. I then remove the oven trays and clean these with steel wool. I then clean the inside of the oven with baby wipes. I also never keep any rubbish in the kitchen tidy at all. I clean the bench tops with a little methylated spirits and window wash. My small kitchen smells amazing
I had a raclette party in Christmas, 2 days after my whole apartment still smelled a lot, so I tried this, simmering water with vinegar, 1 lemon, orange peels , cinamon for 4 hours. I left for some hours, hoping for a miracle when I came back. Well, now the whole apartment smell after vinegar and grease 😭 It's currently winter but I'll leave the windows open tonight, I hope the smell will go away tommorow :-( Well, you guys are right about the smell of grease on the wall, I really hope it will goes away soon 🥴
Got to be careful boiling vinegar where painted surfaces are exposed to the steam. I tried boiling a solution of vinegar and citric acid at 1 percent or less concentration, and created a smudge on the lid of the stove, which needed to be polished with solvents. Another surprise from the chemical that is drinkable.
Would this work with kitchen odors caused by neighbors? The folks downstairs are driving me crazy and keeping me up bc of the lingering unpleasant food odors. Yankee candles and open windows have done their best but even as I’m trying to sleep, it’s like, drifting up to my bedroom. 😣 If there’s anything you can suggest, it would awesome.
Idk, let' say that vinegar will absorb the odor but does the sour smell of vinegar will go away too cause i don't really like the smell of vinegar. It smells like smelly feet.
What I don't understand is why in American apartments the kichen vacuum fan is not connected with a chimney or tube to put the odour outside? or at least a door for the kichen to keep the odour from living room? Just curious...
I've lived in many houses, some but not all have had exhaust fans above the stove. It depends on the layout of the house. Plus some people just don't like the look of range (stove) hoods I suppose. But mostly I find that people just forget to use them.or maybe they don't like the noise.. who knows.

Also, I would enjoy watching a tutorial on how you cleanly apply your make up and how you pamper your make up brushs if used.

Then spray vanilla or and type of kitchen smell around your kitchen or if your dining room is connected !! It works better with it cleaning to!!!

I know this is late, but we cook a lot at my house but my clothes always stay fresh: I put my clean clothes in a clean bag with dryer sheets ,and keep it in a separate room and make sure that door is always closed while I’m cooking. I had some guests that decided to cook maple flavored bacon while I was at work. Apparently they burned the bacon really really bad. Now my entire house stinks of scorched maple. I tried the vinegar n water method. No good. The exhaust fan is soaked with the scorched odor and only emits more stink. I'm really pissed about this.
I know this is an old comment but, does your fan have a filter? Like a metal mesh looking thing? You need to remove it and wash it. Squirt dish soap all over it, scrub both sides w a soft brush, (I use a nail brush) rinse, repeat until you no longer see grease and crap running out. I then let mine sit in a tub/dishpan of bleach, good smelling dish soap (like myers) & water for at least an hour. Always comes out nice n clean. If they are beyond cleaning, look for the part number on it somewhere, you can order a new one. Also while it's soaking, clean the inside of the fan hood. 1st w a degreaser, then wipe vinegar all inside, let it sit like 2 hours, then wash w good smelling kitchen cleaner like myers. The smell of vinegar dissipates so quickly haha many people use it in diy cleaning sprays (including me because it won’t kill my pets) and I use it to get rid of burnt on food (I’m not a great cook🤷🏻♀️) from my pots and pans. No one has told me my house smells like a pickle yet haha. Vinegar can clean almost anything.
I'm embarrassed to not having someone as beautiful as you are in my kitchen. How would u go and clean a soup pot with a chicken smell in it after cooking soup? I use 1 cup of water and 2 tablespoons of vinegar. If you use a higher ratio of vinegar to water, your home may smell of vinegar afterwards.
