    I am 61 and only started buying luxury bags 2 years ago. I have been working forever and now my kids are settled and home is all paid off I can afford to buy these bags. My husband earns well enough to run our home so I guess I have more disposable income now. Initially I thought it was crazy to spend so much on luxury bags. Unfortunately my daughters started me on this slippery slope. This is a great video

    I love how real your being. It’s hilarious some of these women on here absolutely freeze when someone asks them if they are wealthy. Or that hubby buys them their bags. No shame in that at all. My husband buys 80% of my bags so what. I’m not embarrassed. I worked for 36 years retired and loving it. I appreciate you being candid. Stay safe honey

    I am happy that you did this video. My first real luxury purchase was when I bought my LV Neverfull 6 years ago when I was 42! I spent my whole life helping out family members and working hard and since 2020 I have really started to get into luxury and have bought myself several luxury pieces including my first Chanel bag. I waited until I could comfortably afford these as I am at that point in my life where I am financially independent and comfortable.

    I absolutely love this. There is a huge disconnect that these items dont come from hard work. I have just started my luxury collection. I have a few slgs. But i also know that i work fulltime to get these. 156 hours a month of 13 hour shifts. Well done on your career progress and the graft you have put in.

    What a gorgeous closet, full of yummy stuff! Wealth is relative! We also have separate accounts because we are adults, and every bill is automated. Having mad money is very important, we all need to let loose at time. Saving for retirement for over 30 years really helped.
    I started my work life poor and now very comfortable. I do own 6 lux bags, but won't buy anymore 🤭 cause it's enough.

    Thank you for doing this, honest and relatable. There are other vloggers that are doing unboxing every week and you wonder how they are able to manage it? I used to have a job with a six figure income and barely managed to buy a luxury bag. We used to live in Northern California (near San Francisco) and the cost of living is very expensive. We now live in the UK, our situation is a lot more comfortable now and have a little bit more luxury bags and cars.

      I bought my first nice bag ( a mulberry which I had wanted since they started in the 70s) when I was 55 after my second lot of cancer. I had saved money so many times, then spent it on a necessity or the kids, but facing an uncertain future I decided to go for it. Last year I bought my first much wanted LV . Both bags are preloved- in fact I don’t owe any really nice items new, even my lovely Gucci watch was bought on a trusted Facebook live sale and is around 18 yrs old. I quite like the fact they aren’t pristine when I receive them so I have no problem using them straight away.
      I wish budgeting was taught in schools. My two oldest are very good and use Monzo with lots of pots using a zero budgeting system. My youngest is autistic and has a GoHenry card that I can help him budget his money with.

    Hey. New subscriber here. I really enjoyed this video and you gave such great advice. I'm currently saving up for an LV Neverfull. Every time I went into the LV store something else caught my eye and you are 100% right. I'm still wanting the bag I went into there for. I'd love a Chanel but settle for LV's because they're usually cheaper. My problem is...I don't work anymore. I was in 12 comas when I was pregnant so my husband decided I should stay home and enjoy her since we were both lucky to be here. And can I admit I also subscribed because I enjoy your accent?

    • @ameliarosescloset
      @ameliarosescloset  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

  • @ea1420
    @ea1420 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Great video. I really like that you emphasize getting your financial house in order first. I also think that you need to look carefully at how much you can realistically save for these things and how long it will take. I will never buy a Chanel classic flap (or probably any Chanel bag), because it will take 3-5 years to save for that bag and I simply don’t have the patience or will to do that. Others might, but I don’t. I know sometimes I hear luxury TH-cam’s talk about saving for a couple of months for a bag, and I think that there are many of us who can’t save hundreds of dollars a month or more towards a bag, not without going into debt or compromising on other important things (like travel or a home remodel, etc.).

    • @ameliarosescloset
      @ameliarosescloset  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Home etc should always come first and definitely no debt for a handbag. These are added luxuries, they should def not be at the sacrifice of real important things. I have a video coming of starting a luxury collection and one of the points is to stay on track for your dream bag, but to be realistic about what that should be 💕

    • @ea1420
      @ea1420 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ameliarosescloset I love the idea of a video discussing being realistic about what your dream bag should be. Not to say that peoples life circumstances can’t or won’t change that makes a specific bag feasible, however if you can only realistically save $50 a month towards your bag fund then perhaps say a Hermès Birkin isn’t realistic at this point in your life. But, there are so many great bags out there.

    So good that you talk of savings and controlling debts. I’m in Australia and last year we started following the barefoot investor, he has multiple books on budgeting and for the first time in my life I really feel like I’m budgeting. We are targeting debt but still have money to play and that is what I love. We are not wealthy and I foolishly went crazy for awhile on luxury when I couldn’t afford it but now I buy things with purpose and that is within our budget. I save.

    Great video. Totally agree with you about prioritising finances. I think I have “Bag Lady” fears (referring to the book by Alexandra Penney if you’ve ever read it?!). I’m a huge fan of automatic standing orders/direct debits for savings as once the money is taken out my current account that’s it squirrelled away. Also, over the last year, I’m loving the ‘Vaults’ tool on Revolut for dividing up savings for specific items. Can’t believe you too do the saving coins thing - I use one of the savings cans from the Pound Shop to save my Euro2 coins! You then have to use a can opener to open it. I saved over Euro600 in a can last year which I used towards an LV purchase.

    Great video thanks for sharing. My experience with luxury bags has been interesting, over a 3-5 year period I invested about 25-35k in various hand bag investments (some were gifts). I’m not necessarily a collector so it is easy for me to let them go. I have just consistently rotated my bags through consignment, private sale etc. I also buy many pristine bags second hand. So my point, after this initial investment, I haven’t spent any more money but rather sell my bags and other luxury items as I want another luxury item. I have a few staples I will never sell but most of them I’m not overly attached to. So If I want a new bag, I’ll sell like two pairs of shoes and an older bag and then I’ll research and buy the next bag. Just something that has seemed to work well for me. I also know if I ever needed to sell the collection, I could and get a chunk of money back.

    • @ameliarosescloset
      @ameliarosescloset  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Agree to keep your eye on the price. In regards to sale fashionphile does have some $ off at certain times of the year. I also agree to make sure you’ve accomplished certain things first. I’m all about different savings acts. We have 8 lol. So much easier to track and keep an eye on the price.

    Thanks for sharing. Yeah, i really understand how one have to work when young. I do that too since coming from a big family and my dad had just enough for me and my siblings to eat. Now my siblings and myself are in better state of financial after all the hard work we put. Hehe i do have that piggy bank too but mine i can open up at the bottom. But i don't really open it up until it is full. Yes and yes too to go for the prize that one is aiming for and don't get distracted. I am now saving for my 1st Chanel handbag, be it small classic or mini one. Fingers crossed. Hope to get it this year. Congrats on your career progress for the better future of your love ones and for the love for handbags that we will never give up 😍

    Love this video. I thought I was the only one who does multiple accounts. I have a luxury account where all money that comes in is meant for purchasing Luxury and/or travels. I think direct debits are wonderful and it gives you a better perspective for your actual income available for other spending.
    I need to get more into thinking about savings schemes and investment. My main bank has an investment scheme and they could directly send a specific amount from my income sources onto this scheme. I am very interested by this option as I know that by myself I will never put money on savings, I will always find ways to spend it. If the bank takes the money directly then I will have some savings.
    If only Louis Vuitton and Chanel had a loyalty card... 😉😄

    • @ameliarosescloset
      @ameliarosescloset  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed on the last point! The automatic investment with your bank could be a good idea, just compare the potential returns to alternatives, you could always set up a standing order and potentially a better return.

I sacrificed alot to pay off a car in 1 year and a half.. instead of 4years with tons of intrest. As a luxury handbag lover (a beginner to luxury), it's important to discuss finance and how we spend our money, how to save for handbags, investment, not go broke to buy luxury..etc to avoid being in debt. Sometimes buying luxury items can be addicting and we sometimes get influence to buy because of social media and trendy items and speaking about finance helps us viewers especially beginners understand that we need to prioritize our bills and save no matter our income. I have actually stopped carrying around actual money over the last year or so (with COVID and all, I really hate handling it). And I actually find that paying by card helps me track my spending better. I have one of those budgeting apps now and I go through every few days and check my bank accounts and insert all my spending into the app, so I know what goes in and what goes out, and it even gives you graphs and charts so you know where you're spending most and where there are areas for improvement.
