I’ve found placing mushrooms in an airtight container lined well with absorbent paper towel helps keep them fresh for up to 3 weeks. Had some blue oyster for dinner last night that I harvested 17 days ago and the were still firm and fresh
@@Little.Froggie no, use dry ones. It helps absorb the moisture given off by the mushrooms. By avoiding excess moisture you extend the shelf life. If they become too wet change them out for fresh ones
Hello! First off, I just wanted to say how much I appreciate your specialized mycology content! I've been watching for sometime and love that you often use science backed data rather than simply your personal experience, yet still keep it easy to digest. I'm actually writing to see if you would engage in some light consulting work; I was hoping I could get some advice on restructuring my facility. If you're open to a preliminary chat, please let me know.
Just found this channel, so excited, I am going to indulge in watching other videos. This one here on mushrooms is great and I love how you explain it nice and clear with a touch of scientific backup, thanks for sharing 👏🏾
Been asking everyone. How do you get constant flushes? Please do a video on this. I am stuck at this. I do everything on a weekly cycle, spawn, inoculate, incubate and transfer into fruiting chamber but the they just sit there. Even ones that i placed in the fruiting chamber 4 weeks ago, 3 weeks ago, 2 weeks ago and nothing. Proper fruiting parameters.
That's unusual...if everything is healthy and all substrate, spawn and growing conditions are good then Oyster mushrooms will usually just start fruiting after full colonisation and when exposed to fruiting conditions. The weekly cycle you are doing is how to get regular weekly crops, but it sounds like something else is not quite right..
Hey thanks for getting back to me do fast. Could i be experiencing species fatigue or sequencence. Or what its called. I just recently broke out my master culture slants and re-ran them on petri. Also, how do you do your turn around? Meaning how many times do you expand from your master to perti until you either go back to your masters or just clone from a fruiting body? Would enjoy seeing a video on that. I am working with regular oysters; king, black pearl, path finder oyster (mossy creek mushrooms bred species), lions mane, figuring out the white elf mushroom (nebrodensis). Just broke out my indian, blue and elm oyster and bears head. Findings on those will come later. Everything worked some what fine 8 months ago and then i had that winter period where i had to shut er down due to my limited operational ability. Again thanks for getting back to me. Sometimes it just takes a sound board and some direction in these matters. I have asked all the farmers i am subscribed to but your the first to get back to me. Apologize for the lengthy response. Keep up the great work, i learn alot from yall. Blessed be And keep it fungi.
Good evening, dear sir. All respect and appreciation to your honorable person for this video, sir. I am from the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, from the Middle East, and I am a fan of mushroom cultivation. Are the courses held in your company translated into Arabic? Also, can you send me the course in PDF and also the educational videos, note? I do not speak English and I am a follower of the channel. I await your response, thank you
I was surprised by the recommendation to keep it in the original packaging, most videos I see say to put them in paper bags before refrigerating them, I think it also depends on the type of refrigerator you have - older ones don't remove moisture and newer ones do. So maybe this is making a difference in the advice given here? If moisture is not removed, my understanding is that the mushrooms become slimy. I don't know - food for thought....does anyone actually read comments by the way :)
And actually after watching further he kind of reinforced what I am saying - Plastic wrap is "Breathable" - so if your fridge sucks out moisture then paper is not so much needed....
In my experience, the Baby Bella mushrooms will get slimy if kept in the original plastic wrap. After I open the container, I fold the plastic wrap in half and place half-way over the original container (leaving air space on each end) so they can breathe. Granted, the fridge will eventually dehydrate the exposed areas after a few days, but it's better than being slimy. 😊
I dried mushrooms on a 3d printer when my oven filled up, they were resinous polypores so if you don't dry them in a day or two they get mushy and I had to act fast
This is a very unusual question probably, but if I wanted to preserve a mushroom for display (as in part of a mycological shadow box) is there a particular way I could preserve them? They obviously don't need to be edible, just preserved.
I've heard so many wonderful things about magic mushrooms but I can't easily get some, Is there any realiable source I can purchase from??
I'm so interested in the experience but am terrified of having a bad trip
I did two grams last time, it was a thrilling experience and I enjoyed it

Got psych's*
This whole thing is pretty new to me, can I try 3grams?

That's a good shelf life for Oysters, nice one!
Oml Ik this was 2 years ago but when you do that do you make the paper towels damp first?

The most informed video on preserving mushrooms, thanks!
Dude, this video is gold! Thank you so much for your knowledge. I’m glad I found you.

Thank you GroCycle. Great video Eric, nice presentation, easy to understand.
My pleasure!
Can I clean it with water before I dry it at sunshine ? ( Cause fresh mushrooms have dirt or sand )
Thanks for making this quality video! This really helped me get a lay of the land.
Splendid👏. Thank you for sharing a great knowledge. It's helpful for me as a mushroom local farmer. Salam dari Indonesia🙏
Excellent information package, thank you & subscribed.
You're welcome!
Thanks for the informative presentation!
Why did you not include Freeze drying? Do you have any information on that method?
Do you know What is the shelf life of a frozen morel mushroom
Before dehydration. The mushroom should be washed first or not ?
A great video, resourceful. Wanted to know the size of your mushroom growing bags???
This was great, thank you.
Hi. I brine button mushrooms in 2% salt brine, but it leads to weight loss of mushrooms of upto 40%.. what could be the reason and remedy?
Do you know what the shelf life of a frozen mushroom is I have a bunch of morel mushrooms that were picked over a year ago are they still ok to eat
I just dehydrated some lions mane I grew, is it okay to put them in the freezer for a couple of months until I make a tincture
What's the size of your mushroom bag hanging at the back, amount of spawn and substrate used ?
I store my organic baby bella mushrooms in a cardboard egg carton in the fridge. This extended the shelf life considerably.
You should check out (Anthony_mycology), he delivers psychedelics and mushrooms
He is on Instagram
What about the good old and true method of sun drying which actually improves the quality with added Vitamin D?
I wanna ask Sir GroCycle how do we preserve White Oyester Mushrooms for long time, in case we have no instruments generally ?
Do dehydrated mushrooms need to be cooked, since it was only brought up to 45C ?
yes
What about parchment paper?
Can these work with psychedelic mushrooms

Another great vid, thank you! Is air-frying the best way to make crisps?
I believe they make the crisps using a vacuum drying process. You can see more info here; otherfoodsuk.com/
I have a question, do you have a website or link to the mushroom jerky?
One of the biggest mushroom jerky companies is: www.mushroomjerky.com/

When dehydrating, should any kind or fat be used?
no

I thought canning would be a option. You can buy mushrooms in a can.
Try Spanish aljillo
Have you tried freeze drying? Can mushrooms be freeze dried?
The maitake shown in the video looks like oyster🤔
Or store them in your mate's belly.
Fermenting is done by yeast, not by microbes!
Brewing fermentation is done by yeast. Traditional food Fermentation by lactobacillus + others and sometimes yeasts but not necessarily.
