Hi Everyone - If you're looking for a complete list of the changes in SketchUp 2018, make sure you check out this video - th-cam.com/video/thuTTkzNmxg/w-d-xo.html - Thanks for watching!
Sorry to be offtopic but does anyone know a method to log back into an instagram account..? I was stupid lost my password. I would appreciate any help you can give me!
@Dayton Clay i really appreciate your reply. I found the site through google and I'm in the hacking process now. I see it takes a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I am not getting the same result as yours, after cutting the 3D model for section the elevation is of the cut members of the model are filled with the black color too...like the space inside the room. or maybe it is happening because of the roof? which is why it is filling not only the walls but the entire room too...?
I just recieved 2018 tonight and i LOVE IT! i do enjoy this feature because for my engineering classes, i can now do section drawings. I could in 2017, i just drew a plane, intersected it with the model, then textured it to what i wanted haha. I do wish we could do hatchmarks, but i gues on engineering drawings, i can just call those out. I designed an excel sheet that does mass evaluation of my parts, count wait till SUpro has that feature, if they ever put it in
If you have access to photoshop and export the graphic you can add hatch-marks/poché. Photoshop or other editing software can really help your renderings come to life more than sketch-up itself if used together in the right ways.
Is it possible to leave only wall contours and hide all that stuff below the section plane? Basically, what i need is to make numerous section of a curvuloft made panel to cut out templates for further routing curved stripes and gluing them together. It is a part of a bombe chest. Maybe i need to use the slicer5 plugin for my purpose?
TheSketchUpEssentials my question is: can i see only contours which a section plane produces? In one of the videos it is shown as if section plane is reversed. But i am not sure i got it correctly
Another great, great video Justin! I love what the People of Sketchup have realized in this release. Especially the section cut fill is great. Not just for layout but also in Sketchup itself. It is very eye friendly so to speak. I still think it's sad that they are "redefining" what is free in the web based version but then again, the pro version is not to expensive to buy. Greetings from the Netherlands!
Thanks Willem! I do really like what they did with section cuts in this version - you probably know from watching the videos, but I do love to keep my models organized, and this makes that a lot easier, and the section fills function is great as well. Thanks for watching!
Fantastic! Just downloaded the new 2018 and couldn't figure out how to use the new filled sections, so thanks for the tutorial. This could significantly change the way we work. Looking forward to digging into it. Cheers
How do I add a different color for my doors and Windows, on a section like this? I would like to have the walls grey and the Windows and doors white on my layout. Thanks In advance!
Usually you'd have a view with only the walls the color you want, then another view with the doors/windows only in the colors you want, then you'd stack the two viewports in Layout
Hi Justin, Great informative video! So, apart from the bit at the end regarding layout, are all of the features your shown here also available in the free version as well? Also, is it true that the free version no longer accommodates any plugins or extensions of any kind - including rendering apps? thanks bud.
Interesting question - based on a quick look, it looks like you can name your section cuts in the free version, but I don't think the free version has an outliner, and I don't see any way to adjust your lineweights in the styles (though someone may be along to correct me shortly if I'm wrong :) ). Generally, I think these changes are Pro version only changes. As to your second question, to my knowledge, there is no plugin or app integration, including rendering, in the free version. You might be able to download your files, then import them directly into a rendering program, but I haven't really had a chance to try that. Thanks for watching!
Thanks Justin. So there's no longer plugins or an outliner in the free version? That's really unfortunate. I'm not a professional and won't buy pro so I guess I'll continue to use 2017 make for the near term then move on to something else when it inevitably seems rudimentary when compared to its contemporaries. With these changes, I can't help thinking that Sketchup may have reached its peak in terms of it's overall market growth. The design software industry today is very crowded and it becomes increasingly so each year. Keeping a product ever visible to consumers is key to continued growth. There are arguably better alternatives available today but part of what made Sketchup appealing and accessible to novices like myself was a free version with a very robust set of tools. Now, we're seeing some of those tools go away. Sad. However, time marches on. For my part, Google (Trimble) Sketchup will be fondly remembered as a pioneer at least in their initial marketing approach. thanks again.
Thanks for sharing. I would like more of these from you on SketchUp 18. If I may, a small point which might be confusing some people like me. Just IGNORING OLDER versions and looking only at the SketchUp 2018 suite of software, is the only free version the cloud version? If that is the case, is it sensible to assume that Trimble's plan is to phase out free desktop versions over time?
I assume so, since technically they've already done that - there is no current, maintained free desktop version available anymore - Make 2017 remains available for download and use, but they aren't offering continuing support for it
Justin, is there a chance that you make a video strictly about Lineweights in Layout and Sketchup? Has anything changed in Mike Brightman's 'Lineweight Theory' form SWFA with Intruduction of Section Line Width or it's still the same? I'm confused :)
Well, I already did, but it was made before this newest version of SketchUp (th-cam.com/video/vYuyc7UlZRQ/w-d-xo.html), so the workflow has already changed. Probably the best place for you to start would actually be this video (th-cam.com/video/aXS7D6lqusk/w-d-xo.html), where I talk about creating drawings for Layout using 2018's new tools. I think that I talked about how to use the new section tools for lineweights in that video. Take a look and let me know if that helped with any of your questions. Thanks!
I think you're going to have to go through manually in the outliner - unless there's something I'm not aware of (very possible), once your planes are created, you have to go back and change them manually...
Thanks for posting the overview. I jumped onboard a while back and I'm having a really annoying problem in Layout 2018, namely any model with a lot of dimension strings (I draw houses for a living) refuses to export to PDF in Hybrid render mode from Layout 2018. I'm a stick in the mud, running Win 7 because I hate forced upgrades etc in the newer versions of Windows and the axiom is give Windows memory, it will occupy it in the newer versions. So, Win 7 ran awesome in SKU 2016 and Layout 2016. But with 2018, PDF glitch in Layou 2018, and frequent crashes in SKU 2018. Could be any one of a horde of extensions to blame in SKU, but in Layout? Don't know. "print... print to PDF" works to side step it, but it's slow, makes huge files I can't send etc. Would LOVE some input from the SKU gurus out there as to a fix. Justin, does Layout 2018 have a way to auto symbol the sections? I mean, we get a nice symbol in SKU view, but how to auto plop that nice graphic I just input data into in Layout and skip monkeying around with the scrapbooks and just see the SKU generated section labels in all their glory... that is the question. May not be possible, but if it is, please advise the viewers. I bet a lot of us would use this hack.
Never heard of that issue before - you may want to create a post over on the SketchUp forums and see if they're familiar with it. I'm not aware of a way to auto symbol the sections at the moment - I'm sure someone will be along to correct me if I'm wrong ;p - Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the feedback. BTW, Enscape's constantly imroving since you last visited it. Beta "preview" edition's got materials editor for Sketchup now, with bump map. Also improved is the lighting and the emissivity controls. Also able to export 360 HDRI's now from your renderings. I'll keep looking for a fix for the quirk I have in Layout 2018. Love the new features it has, just not this hiccup.
I don't know, honestly - I've never exported section cuts to autocad - honestly, my assumption would have been that you'd just export a 2D face from your section plane, but I'm not really familiar with the AutoCad process...
Oop, found it in Windows: default tray. Anyway your video is awesome and easily to be followed by new sketch up user (example: me 🤧). Thank you very much!
Did you have a 2017 Pro license? You may want to check here (www.sketchup.com/license/renew) and see if they're covering an upgrade to 2018 for free (not sure) - I think I covered hatching and fills in the 2017 version here as well - th-cam.com/video/JMYYTuOB2q8/w-d-xo.html - Hopefully that's still helpful. Thanks!

@Dayton Clay it worked and I finally got access to my account again. Im so happy:D
Thank you so much, you saved my account!
@Xavier Axl happy to help :D
Really helpful for interior students who stucks in there crits ❤🙏am the one who ...wanna hug u bro thnkz a lot for this 🥰

Děkuju, super. Tvé lekce jsou jasné a srozumitelné a pomáhají !!
I love your videos. I always get something new out of them that I didn't know. Thanks for putting the time in.
Awesome! Glad you're finding them helpful!

I don't understand what you're trying to do. Just turn off the layers of everything except the walls?
TheSketchUpEssentials my question is: can i see only contours which a section plane produces? In one of the videos it is shown as if section plane is reversed. But i am not sure i got it correctly

Awesome - Glad you found it helpful!
Can I use the section tool to cut a building in half and then extend/extrude it at the cut?
Hi, maybe you know how section fill change texture?
I want to import section into autocad including theasa cut fills what should i do
Hi.. I'm from Indonesia and I like every singgel videos you have. Thanks for the knowledge..

You do a great job. Really like your videos. Thanks for what you do.
Really glad you're finding them helpful!
Hi JUSTIN ..............thank u very much ..........it was very usefull
👍
cheers. the section line color and line thickness option have been there since 2005. seems the fill option doesn't work on groups.
Didn't Google acquire SketchUp in 2007? Also - it's working on groups for me - make sure the box for section fills is checked. Thanks

Hey, I was wondering about the labels. Hw do you create different labels for different scenes and then hiding the other labels??
I don't really understand what you're asking - are you talking about the labels shown in the 3D image? Or in the outliner?
Justin, is there a chance that you make a video strictly about Lineweights in Layout and Sketchup? Has anything changed in Mike Brightman's 'Lineweight Theory' form SWFA with Intruduction of Section Line Width or it's still the same? I'm confused :)

Hi, Justin, I'm trying to reset section planes numbering. Any idea how to do this?

Awesome! I'm looking forward to the materials editor specifically - I'm a big fan of Enscape - it's just so easy to use. Thanks again!
Hi, a great video..
How to change a symbol section cut like you use in this video?
Thanks.
Are you running SketchUp 2018? This was a feature added in the 2018 version of SketchUp - thanks!
TheSketchUpEssentials No, i'm using su2017 version..
can the section plane be cut through specific groups or components ?
Yes - just double click inside the group/component before adding your section plane
@@Thesketchupessentials helped a lot thankyou
Youre an absolute legend man! Thanks!
Glad to help!
Can you put different section fills colors, for different groups/components?
I don't believe so. You could probably do it using different visibility settings in Layout, but not just by making a quick settings change...
Thanks for the tips Justin! Keep up the good work! Cheers...
Thanks very much! Glad you liked it!
Does this new feature helps in the caos of importing section cuts to autocad?
I don't know, honestly - I've never exported section cuts to autocad - honestly, my assumption would have been that you'd just export a 2D face from your section plane, but I'm not really familiar with the AutoCad process...
Why I can't find outliner in default tray?
Oop, found it in Windows: default tray. Anyway your video is awesome and easily to be followed by new sketch up user (example: me 🤧). Thank you very much!
Awesome - glad you got it!
I knew I would put you into trouble with my last name after I started supporting you, haha!
LOL - I really tried, but ultimately figured this was a better way to go. Thanks again for your support, I really appreciate it! :)
The common problem is Clipping (bug camera issue) that is always happen anytime. do they fixed it already?
Hmmm...I don't know the answer to this one. Sorry...
Awesome features
Thanks James!
Perfect! Thanks!
hi friend your sketchup videos are excellent and no one can compare your video on you tube for google sketchup drawing
Thanks very much!
Thank you for a wonderful video, you helped me greatly!
Awesome - glad it helped!
Thank you man you save mny life!
Thanks for Your great work!!! Everything what I know about Sketchup is form Your TH-cam publications!!!
Awesome - I really appreciate it!
thank you for your video.
Thanks for watching!
Thanks, helpful!
Glad you liked it!
TheSketchUpEssentials I just heard your episode on sketchup Talk podcast too!
Really usefull
THANKS
It is too expensive to update and you can't pay in installments, I'll continue with 2017 for now.
Thanks!
This is great for a sketch project, but I don't see me doing some serious work with this. I like it though.
What kind of serious work?
TheSketchUpEssentials, Final detailed drawings, to use on site.
I don't mean to undermine sketchup, but it's not a full formed BIM (yet).
ORBIT TOOL PERFOMENCE IS NOT GOOD ,SELF RUNNIG
Are you using a model with a lot of geometry?
Dude look like he's melting
