I wrote this song in this very room... but back then it was a spare bedroom (Pre renovation). I can't be more than 3 ft from where I wrote it though... strange.
Grew up in Alaska. My dad was AirForce. My sister and I moved around time and time again but we landed in anchorage for around 10 years altogether. It was our childhood and this band and these songs bring me right back there. Thank you sir.
Oh man, this was my first Barenaked Ladies song! I heard my dad listening to it one hot California day, and I was hypnotized by it. I just love how this sounds, still one of my all-time favorite songs to this day.
Ed.... Jeeesus man that sounded incredible!!@!!Thanks for posting this fantastic "Bathroom versions" They are friggin incredible!!! Cheers from Ottawa......
Wow! First, I'm amazed that you share your talent like this over the net. Second, I have always enjoyed this song and have added it to my performance list. It's nice to see exactly how it's done so I can replicate it closer to the original version. Thanks. You're a great guitarist and vocalist. I'm exited to perform this one tomorrow night.
This is my theme song, every late spring when I leave Ft. Lauderdale to head to Maine, and at the end of every summer, when I pack up my things to head back to Florida. It's my ritual to play this as I pull out the driveway and begin my journey . . . It fits perfectly, whichever direction I'm heading. Saw you guys at the Seminole Hard Rock Café last year. It was a nice crowd and the most fun I've had at a concert. Hope to catch you some time when I'm up north.
This song is so amazing and wonderful in the raw form presented here. Saw the late Steve Jobs previewing some of the very tech that allowed this raw and so interesting set of videos to be done in such a non-slick and generative way. Just a guy singing to his Mac, except this guy is one of the most talented in the world. Thanks, Ed, I hope you'll do more of these, even as Apple and tech in general gets more slick--still one of original and passionate voices of my and several generations.
These videos have inspired to try learning the guitar again this summer. I started a few years back, and made some progress, but work and other things got in the way and I didn't have any songs I really wanted to learn. Now I have goals! I'd also really like a BNL guitar book, Ed!
hey ed ...ed here love your music. i play a bit too mostly around a camp fire. by the way love your show ed's up!!!!! mechanics helper here in williams lake bc. climbing the ladder. anyhow keep it up...ed n shari

Something great about listening to this at 2:30AM, while the birds whistle in the eaves and the rest of the world falls silent...
7 years later & I'm having that exact feeling, then see this comment.🙃
