    If all insurers got together and refused to insure them until they made them harder to nick they’d soon make them impregnable

    They're just so bad, so easy to steal, so unreliable, high insurance costs, awful ingenium engine, poor mpg, so ridiculously expensive to repair and maintain...And not to mention some of the worst customer service from main Landover/Jaguar Dealerships I've ever had to deal with for my work and on behalf of customers, I've not heard one single JLR customer of ours who's ever been happy with their car or the main dealer never not once! No wonder they've tanked and so they should

We commute, tow, explore. Have crossed deserts, rivers and glaciers and they take it all in their stride.

    So, to summarise: The main issue causing the Range Rover market to crash is that most Range Rover owners can’t really afford to own a Range Rover. Living on the never-never in order to project an image of wealth that is exaggerated. Very 2023. And that most people who own Range Rovers live in areas where your cars get stolen. Bravo.

      @brunoultra7215 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      How do you figure those who drive it are trying to project an image of wealth? Did you come up with that stat?
      Do you even give credence to how the car makes them feel? Isn't that something a broke person would say? I would've never thought you'd drive a car to make people think you're wealthy rather than for how it makes you feel.
      Are you just resentful of RR drivers and by extension, successful people? What you wrote says a lot about the society you live in and your upbringing, good sir. Not the owners.

    • @TregTube
      @TregTube ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @@brunoultra7215 that is what society is all about these days. Range Rovers used to be owned only by the people who could afford them. Nowadays almost anyone can buy one on finance. You sir, have incorrectly identified me as being jealous. I love Range Rovers. And I salute anyone who can genuinely afford to buy (and run) a nice one. But if you drive a car that cost you more than half your annual salary, then that’s how the situation described in this video comes about. Sounds more like you feel attacked personally by my comment. Makes me laugh when our insurers don't even discount when you tell them you have a good steering lock like a Disklok, yes a grinder can remove them but they are a great deterrent.
    And owners can't be bothered using a steering lock if they value their cars too, but the Manufacturers are the ones to blame adding keyless entry and keyless locking who is that lazy they can't turn a key in a lock maybe.

    Interesting topic. I have had Range Rovers for over 20 years and agree that the early ones had many problems however, I owned L322s for many years and am currently a RR Sport that has only received servicing in the 4 years owned. There have been reputational issues however, many of these are unfounded. ALL car insurance have gone up and the main issue is not RR being stolen it is the fact that in a crash electric cars are mostly written off. This has massively increased insurance costs across the board. We have 4 cars in our household, Fiesta, Golf, Discovery Sport and RR Sport. As a percentage increase, the Fiesta went up the most!

      This definitely helps but there's at least 2 other popular ways to steal these that don't involve relaying the keyless signal.
      You pretty much need a faraday blocker, Ghost immobilizer, some sort of steering wheel lock and a VHF tracker (standard GPS trackers are useless now that they bring blockers with them) to have a chance of keeper a Rangie for more than a year in some parts of the UK. Crazy.
      Even the brand new ones are getting nicked because the CAN bus is not secured and is hidden behind plastic (JLR literally used plastic on certain body panels on a £100k+ car) in certain parts.

    So I did the rear brakes myself with a good used control unit which is a real pain to replace.
    I am currently replacing the head unit as it will not accept complete addresses. Not difficult at all. Also the rear hatch would not raise automatically however reseating the control module connectors solved that problem. Not bad for 8 years of ownership.

    Its not only RR but anything under the umbrella of Land Rover/Jaguar... I had a Freelander 2 2009 nothing spectacular ... Hastings refused to give me a quote. I initially thought something was wrong with my application but after attempts I remembered the stories going around on the forums and tried a 2009 Ford Smax with the same details...Instant quote!
    Land Rover screwed up and screwed their customers over with their slipshod slack security. Reminds me of Mercedes with their cost-cutting in the early 2000's that led to the rust scandals and took them years to claw their way back to some respect but never the same...

    The Range Rover is considered to have some drawbacks when it comes to its performance as a 4x4 vehicle. The quality of the vehicle may not always match the price paid, which can be disappointing.

    Second hand market is the same with many vehicles dropping in price, it's not complicated. I don't think it's anything to do with theft. Whenever there's a financial crisis, luxury goods are the first to see sales slow down and people are not going to buy them. With the Range Rover, they're expensive to run and people who buy older ones in many cases can't really afford to run them anyway. So as soon as prices start going up they start looking for cheaper cars to run. But are they struggling? JLR recently posted their best financial results ever, so frankly I'd take all this with a pinch of salt because they're clearly selling them.

    My theory is the Insurance premiums will now start to fall 2 main reasons 1 As the values plummet so so does the cost of payouts should your Range Rover get stolen ie less risk 2.if the values plummet they become less desirable to the thieves re Risk and Reward. Anyway that's my theory

I went to the used car dealership today (18months) from when I purchased this, they've now informed me the car is only worth £15k approx 23k mileage on the clock. Do you have any advice how I could shift this car without taking too much of a hit? Would you know if the prices are likely to stablelise and likely to increase in the next few months. Sorry for all the questions, I'm just struggling to know what to do with it and any advice is appreciated.

    stay well away if you want a reliable vehicle. I've been a mechanic for 24 years now and these are by far the most common car we work on. They are built very poorly, all models including the SVR and higher ups. They are in my opinion designed to fail, using far too many cheap plastic parts which perish very quickly and leave the owners with huge bills, even when well maintained.

    I live in the USA (New Jersey, near NY City) and some used car lots are loaded with 7 + model year and older Land Rover brand models. LR has a terrible reputation here as to reliability, costly to get fixed, very few mechanics want to work on them. They also have a high theft rate, mainly to be exported to Africa, South America where few check on stolen vehicles being imported. That leads to also high insurance rates here. Many would rather by a somewhat more reliable M-B, BMW, Audi or better yet a Lexus, Toyota, or even Jeep models. I also suspect in the UK of the pollution based road taxes, usually very high for LR models is also a factor there.

    I live on the outskirts of London and have a 2017 RR Sport that I love. It looks amazing and makes me feel good. However, yes the insurance is f**king high (and it'll be higher next time because I've stupidly managed to rack up a few penalty points recently). Also, I do indeed keep getting the DPF warnings that suggest it'll soon need a costly new DPF soon. Arrgh!

    • @BuySellCarsTV
      @BuySellCarsTV  ปีที่แล้ว +2

    • @markdavis2475
      @markdavis2475 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A DPF is basically a filter. They are "cleaned" during the regeneration cycle. If you're having issues it's usually caused by short journeys not allowing the regeneration to complete. A fault in the regeneration system (often a blocked vaporiser or bad glow plug) will also not allow a proper regeneration. Don't just change the DPF, it won't solve the issue.
