No model trains, but model cars: Automated vehicle system by Faller or DC Car

- The audience of Pilentum Television loves watching trains operating on a model railway, but sometimes it is nice to see a bit more happening on the model railway layout to add realism, for example, the everyday movement of vehicles on roads. Basically, there are two systems competing on the market: One is the famous Faller Car System, which is based on a control system with ultrasonic sensors in its latest version, and the other is the DC Car System, which is based on a control system with infrared sensors.
In this video we see a layout constructed with the DC Car System, which by the way is compatible with N scale (N gauge), HO scale (H0 gauge) and OO scale (00 gauge). To make this video even more entertaining, Pilentum Television dubbed the voices of the visitors and the disturbing background noises with real engine sounds.
Those car systems are working roadway systems that look great and they are easy to operate. These systems use a metal contact wire embedded underneath the road as a guide for the battery powered vehicles. This wire is flexible enough to be used on straights, curves and hills. Accordingly, the vehicles are fitted with a motorised chassis and rechargeable battery which pushes the vehicle forwards via a small motor and gear arrangement, following the guide wire. Therefore, the front axle is fitted with a guide stem and magnet that follows the guide wire. Finally, the vehicle then drives around the streets of the railway layout following the wire through junctions, roundabouts, carriageways and any other traffic arrangement.
In the meantime, there are lots vehicles to add to a road way including cars, tractors, lorries and buses. In addition to vehicles, there are lots of accessory modules to create life on the roads, for example, bus stops, traffic lights, etc. Especially, the bus stop module allows a bus to pull in off the main roadway, park, wait and pull away again without you having to press any buttons. Also the various traffic lights can be installed on the main roadway, so that vehicles will stop automatically if the traffic lights are showing red. Once it changes to green the vehicles will start up and drive off again. This level of automation always looks impressive on any model railway layout. Using the Faller Car System, magnet offset to one side on the chassis is what activates the various additional modules. Using the DC Car System, small infrared LEDs hidden on the layout activate those various traffic modules.
The most important component is the wire. This metal wire can be installed in one of two ways. The first way is using the special groove cutting tool available from Faller. This tool allows cutting the perfect depth groove to insert the wire into the layout’s baseboard. The wire can be glued down and then be covered over with filler to hide the wire from view. The alternative is not cutting a groove, but using laser-cut lengths of roadway. These ready-made plates are available as straights, curves, bus stop sections, etc. The plates already have the groove cut in them for the wire to be inserted. The plates are road sections that allow the construction of individual traffic routes, but you still have to lay and cover over the wire.
In the very simplest form, the vehicles drive on the hidden guide wire. Computer control is then not necessary at all. But as soon as junctions or special traffic situations are to be constructed, points must be installed into the layout’s baseboard, which are activated via reed contacts and magnetic switches.
When I was a kid, 50 years ago, I had a combined Märklin and Faller model with one crossing between railroad and cars. This shown here is fantastic!!
Thanks for watching!
Whoever made this model is a highly talented artist.
Very cool. Loved the detail of the flashing blue arc as the train goes over the level crossing and the speed camera flash. It also explain why some of my DHL packages are a bit damaged when the truck brakes so hard 😎 And that tractor driver...didnt even stop before pulling out onto the main road, very prototypical 😁
Very well done. The stops are a bit rough but all in all it looks very realistic. Great job
As I wrote in another comment, acceleration and braking can be programmed individually for each vehicle. There are countless parameters to programme vehicles individually (lights, horn, brake lights, sound, etc.). But unfortunately, all this is a very expensive toy :-)
I’ve always been in awe of models that move like this! Wish I could do this
Thank you for explaining how both systems work. Really amazing watching the vehicles zoom around
This is marvelous. That blue semi looked in a hurry. 😁😁
Very impressive! The only thing I don’t like about these systems is the fact that you can only have trucks and buses - no cars.
indeed a nice Ferrari, Aston Martin, Lamborghini would look kinda cool
@@mrbojangles8133 Couldn't agree more! 👍
On guy made a car
What kind of a system is it
@@IraCheatampenso sia Il car system della Faller oppure Car Motion.
Amazing, bit scary how some of those lorries drive lol
Drunk drivers - as usual :-)
It's modeled true to real life lol
those truck drivers have HO scale (1:87) brains
about 2 mm in diameter....
Oh man these comments are cracking me up! 🤣
Ets 2 online vibes😂
I love layouts that have moving traffic, it really brings everything up to the next level. Having static cars and trucks parked everywhere looks so cheesy now. 40 years ago when I was a kid I did this on my HO scale layout but I used slot cars. It wasn't near as cool as this stuff but it worked
Did you use aurora slot cars?
me too. the fun was trying to beat the train to the crossing
or ramming the slot cars into the box cars and flat beds to derail them
The HO batmobile was great for this
The Wind Turbine and Tractor were nice additions...
Whoever made this model is a highly talented artist. This video is very informative. Thumbs up
I love this video its wonderful. I dont care much for the trains. I adore the cities and Faller Car Systems. One of my favorites is the Largest Airport, where the planes take off and land. That is so amazing to me. The Wunderland is my most favorite. I watch that over and over. Thank you so much for making these videos. I really love them.
I agree, I’m not interested in the trains but love a miniature town or city with moving cars.
I would turn this set on to wake me to the hazards outside , as I'm having breakfast Mad farmers, trucks and then wait for the train !. Smashing layout , including omnipotent wind turbines. Thanks all. Dave
Im on Teen right now and its still my dream to play with that map and mini cars.
The sound is very realistic.
Faller have had cars too since the begining in the early 90s I just can't justify the price. With the low costs of 3d printing these should be affordable now and available in any country. Gauge master in the UK is helping but still prices are high
Mycket trevligt! Tack för denna film.👏👍💐🙏🙂👏
Tack för att du tittade!
Brilliant. Love the road rage so real. A bit of a load and worn tires and should see a jack knife too in a while on that city corner.
The Faller car system is gorgeous! It gives a train layout a completely new life!😉👍
But note, we see here the competing system called DC Car. In the scene at the level crossing you can see the small infrared LED flashing, which is used to send signals to the truck.
Now another system in launched; Viessmann CarMotion. Looks also gorgeous. Would be fun to see those compared and or together in a while. I guess they all have their own strengths and weaknesses.
Amazing, even saw some speeding and road rage
It's so realistic some vehicles were even doing brake checks.
The perpetual 5 year-old in me wants to just watch this for hours.
...just do it :-)
This is insanely beautiful! Wow! Well done. 👍
I love the cars POV !
Impressed that it works over Level Railway crossings! Had not seen that before!
Now this is what I'm looking for, to take every single diecast model and have it control Vans, Cars, Trucks, Semi Trucks, Police Cars, SUV's, and even the model USPS.
i would love to see that in person.. great watch.
this is so amazing!! Seeing cars is as amazing as trains, both together is even cooler. 2:20 - would be cool if they had people riding bikes and or walking down the sidewalk.
Bicycles are available but not on this system. Try magnorail.
Maravillosa Maqueta de carros y camiones. El sonido es espectacular. Felicitaciones!!👍👍💪
Gracias, Uwe!
Awesome details! Really nice.
Great job! Very creative and great effort. Thanks for sharing!
Excelent!... Congratulations...
Spectacular and so nicely done, lights add a lot...Splendid, truly splendid! 👍👍👍👍😍
Super DC-Car Anlage, very, very nice and real!
Great new update today .Like it so much
That's pretty cool! Love the sound effects!
It looks so realistic!
Loved this thank you 👍
Mr Angry in the blue lorry. Brilliant content thanks for sharing 👍
Quelle trafic dans une petite ville du bruit infernal et la nuit , je déménage
Thank you great video. just got to watch it. We are in wheat harvest here in Oklahoma, haven't had much time for model trains. Thankyou from the cowboys in America. The Shufflebotham's
You are by the Brigstocks.
Great stuff, well done. Better than just trains going round and around.
I love the small cars and train
This museum in Germany has them set up like this. My dream would be to have a big Plasticville USA setup, a little town of my own with cars like these running through
You can take US models from Herpa and convert them. I prefer „Open Car System“ to control the cars. Its a German system too.
Interesting how the brake lights even came on when they stopped.
Fascinating... wish they had these when I had my HO layout as a youngster (mid 70's) Maybe they did, but all I had access to were Tyco model railroading so I never learned about it.
Tyco has a slot car set that had grade crossings for their trains. All you had to do is reverse the wires on the left lane to make them two way traffic.
In the early 80s they introduced US1 which was their best product before they closed.
I don't know who invented this but it is fascinating, trucks , cars etc, that run similar to the way the trains do, similar but not the same.
If I were to build a model diorama, I will both include trains and cars.
Some serious brake checks going on haha
It looks fabulous, but watchout for those crazy trucks!
Bellissimo servizio!
Its beautiful. Nice video
I AM IMPRESSED !
Beautiful
What’s the song name in the intro?
It is played by myself on the e-piano.
I have to say this is amazing but what would a city filled with these vehicles look like? I have to imagine there would be traffic jams all over the place.
Fantastic! I wonder if there is a way to make the cornering speeds more realistic though. A few times in the video here a truck goes round a sharp bend without slowing down at all.
Terrific stuff... been wondering if i'd ever see vehicles 'move' on a scale rail setup, but can the vehicles move at more realistic speeds to the scale they represent...? Then all we'll need then is the little static people to walk!!!
there are magnet chains that you can use to pull just about anything around a short loop
The wear marks on the street add more realism
1:51 “Get out of the bloody way!”.
Truly a marvel. Fun!
Superbe circuit Car Systeme!
This is a functioning city!
Excellent!
So Fake. No potholes and poor roads as in real life, terrible unlawful councils ! Nuh I love your work man, fantastic, it's a credit to you, Thanks for sharing so we can all see.
The acceleration and deceleration algorithms need fine-tuning, as they are the main things preventing the suspension of disbelief. Almost there!
Wonderful. I'm from Italy.
More like this scenes please!
This is dope!
Bellissimo, con cosa viene gestito il traffico stradale?
Saludos amigos que marca son los camiones y a que escala estan
I liked the scene where the bird in the green econobox had stalled her car...
Right in the middle,
Right in the middle,
Right in the middle
Of the *$+*#"g road!
A lorrie driver's lament.
Автомобили ? Неожиданно, но тоже хорошо!
So butyful.....❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Super PILENTUM!!! MERSI!!!👍👍👍👍😀😀😀
Amazing work. Only one detail that spoils it a little. Too many people on the streets.
You have taken much effort s🙏
is there a full version of the intro tune? i love it
How do they move?😊
Hola: Me encantó la Maqueta.
日本だといすゞプラザのジオラマに採用されていますね。
Leeraner Miniaturland toevallig? Wil er binnenkort even heen. Mooie video overigens!
Add police traffic stops, head-on collisions & road rage to complete the experience
Very good and interesting video 👍👍 I really like to enhance my model train layout with a carsystem like this 😊😊🚂
That's right, Jens. Your model railway layout also needs vehicles. But before you rebuild the roads, I would like to visit you in Denmark.
That is super cool amazing!!! T U
Awesome.
Hey how does these miniature cars work by there own i want them for my diorama
So cool but a little disappointed that there were no cars.
Super. 💙 T.E.N.
For added realism, watch at 0.75.
Got to add a few road rage incidents. In America that'll make it more realistic. :-)
Brilliant, but why is everyone driving on the wrong side of the road?
Must be a Florida layout LOL
Impressive
That is pretty cool👍
I can tell it was only a model because DHL drivers don't go around bends on 4 wheels.
They do have a reputation to keep to.
Now we need animated pedestrians.
I have already seen and filmed cyclists. But not yet pedestrians, in fact. That would be a very good business model!
This is just great! Wonder when comes same systems to the sidewalks etc where people could move with the same systems as well. That is still missing. While there is push button actions, which is nice that you can interact. But rest is standing still. Exept i have seen cyclist's, but that is kinda same like cars going around.
Maravilloso 👌 🚐 🚚 🚙 🚋 🏙️
