To give you an idea on how paranoid Hiroo Onoda was. In his book he states the Japanese search parties sent his brother to the island, who he noticed but could not get close enough to see his face. Before leaving his brother sang a song from their childhood, this almost convinced Hiroo Onoda that this was actually his brother. Unfortunately his brothers voice cracked at the end of the song, meaning Hiroo thought "the imposter revealed his real voice at the end". So basically, Hiroo Onoda thought his actual brother was an imposter of his brother because of a voice crack.

Wow this is an interesting video. Although Japan was our enemy during the war I cant help but admire the absolute dedication and fortitude of these men. Harder than nails for sure. My grandfather used to tell me stories about the war. Him and all his brothers volunteered. All but one came home. I cant imagine how they came home and went on about their lives and maintained as well as they did. The things they did and saw and survived. It would break most from my generation and later I believe. They really were the greatest generation. My grandfather went on to serve in Korea, and was still in the military when Vietnam started however he didnt serve in the war itself. He finally retired. He was among the last class of enlisted aviators before they required pilots to be commissioned officers. He was at some point a machine gunner where he got a purple heart from a bullet that came through and grazed the side of his head and I know he served with crews on B24s and B17s. He served in the navy and later the air force. I know he also was part of another squadron but I'm not sure what the aircraft was. Truly amazing men and women from those days. Much respect.
