Hey. Good question... a five is where the defender starts all the way in the line and the blocker starts all the way in the angle. Basically your daring the hitter to hit low down the line or shoot over high. Similar to a 2 call. But you get to your position really early and your generally trying to bait the hitter to shoot angle high and your going to take off to get it if your blocker makes him go high enough

Why does the defender call the block when the blocker is serving? I notice in matches that while the blocker is serving, the team mate is giving the blocker signs. Are you both talking it out at that point -or does the defender "call" the game?
The person who is not Serving will make the defensive call. But if you guys are on the same page and communicating then it’s more of a collaborative call
The reason that the The person who is not Serving will make the defensive call is that the call depends on the setup of the other side. There is no point talking out the call before serving.

depends. it can mean whatever you and your partner want
