I feel I can speak for all drummers in saying that we are lucky to have your TH-cam channel Rick! I know that anytime I watch one of your videos I am going to learn something and I'm going to be inspired to go practice! Thanks for the continued great content!!!!
Well, I'm not a drummer and I started playing drums lately to improve my overall musical skills, but I can understand subtle difference from good to better to great etc. Your playing is top class, every phrase is a lesson cause there's simply so much information in almost every note
I LOVE the dark and wide hi hat cymbals, they have such a THICK tone, perfect for the swing music from the 1930s and 40s. The brighter ones are OK but I'm a sucker for the big ones.
I never really played Jazz until just recently and just in a few weeks I have found how much I don’t know about playing drums. I stumbled upon your video and what a great stumble! Thank you for expertise, and beautiful drumming!
0:55 when youve developed this level of speed and control while making it seem effortless, as if youre playing slow, thats the sign of a true gangster on the set!
Oh man, what a great vid. You busted me, over the years I realize my hi hat work has gotten lazy. I go practice this stuff to be better jazz man. Thanks for sharing your talents, Rick!
Hey Rick - I just picked up a pair of Vintage 13'' Zildjian hat's - top is 1930's and a feather weight 454g. Bottom later 1940's Trans Stamp, also under 500g. They sound delicious with my old Radio King set. Top hat is slightly warped - is this common on such old hat's ? Also where do you stand on tilting bottom hat ? Absolutely mega playing my friend.
You didnt happen to buy those 15 inch K hats from a guy in New York. They sound so much like the ones i owned and sold to anfellow in NY a cuople years ago. I bought them from Luciano Paroni who was Roberto Spizzichinos rep in Europe.

Your command of the drum kit is something I cannot even dream of attaining. I enjoy trying, though.

Great cimbals and very responsive hi hats! 👋🏻👌🏻
Switched from medium weight Zildjians to some lighter Mel Lewis hats and it made a HUGE difference on how easy it was to play this stuff.

Old K 15's from the 1950's
Everything sounds great! Playing/tones. What mics are you using for the overheads/cymbal spot mics?
That info is in the video description if you click on the arrow.

Anyways, you play them better !
No
They were given to me by a well known jazz drummer many years ago in NYC and he was the original owner.
Thanks
