Its extra impressive considering the circumference of that roller is probably 1/4 that of a standard bicycle wheel it’s designed for. With the correct gear ratio it would probably be way more power!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but when the contact point of the dynamo is on the outer edge of the wheel, then the diameter of the wheel is irrelevant. The speed at that point of the wheel will equal the speed of the axle relative to a point on the interfacing surface (the ground, or the tread belt in this case). You'll get the same output from the dynamo, whether you run it straight off the road or off the edge of the tire. (This is all assuming a fixed speed, so the dog running as fast as the bike goes)
LOVE IT! Personally, I'd figure out how to gear it to the generator, that way less friction and/or slippage. However, I'd plug a portable battery into that USB and just run what you need.
Do yourself a favour and stay away from wooden mills. The battering they take from the dog running on it eventually loosens up the timber and it rocks itself into breaking.
Depending on how heavy your dogs are, you might want a band of strapping down the middle too. I'm worried the plywood might flex and gap and maybe pinch a toe bean.
That's a great idea! Only thing I can think of is if turning more gears would increase load, but if you did the gearing right you could probably multiply the output by a considerable amount, and probably make it take less speed from the dog to make the same amount of power.
