JoeRobinetBushcraft You're welcome. This is the style of pack I've searched for relentlessly. Unfortunately they aren't common. Hope that changes in the future. -Krik
You guys all look so clean and everything i so newly washed. Don´t you ever use your stuff in real situations. When im out its never that clean. Maybe hes just in a studio. LOL.
Sebastian Swande Most of my gear is at least a couple of years old and it still looks like new. As long as you don't deliberately roll in the mud you should be able to keep your gear fairly clean. As for the clothes - just wash them...maybe...
My name is Gavin young, I am a newfound bushcraft enthusiast from the United States. After months and months of research and searching I narrowed the perfect pack down to the one and only helags 40L pack. However to my misfortune, I have just found out this line was discontinued. After weeks of watching videos, reading reviews and even going through Facebook pages, and forums of people that want this pack, I finnaly decided to reach out too you. This pack is truly one of a kind and in my opinion is the best pack of them all, I’ve read through and talked too hundreds if my thousands of people that would kill to get there hands on this pack. A huge market niche is waiting on this pack to reappear! I would appreciate it so much if this were too take motion! If this one email isn’t enough too convince you the demand for this product, look through the thousands of other people who also would purchase this pack across the world. You made a truly special product that I would love to enjoy and partake in. Fellow bush crafter Gavin young
I have the exact same pack and love it too! What's interesting is that I didn't know about some of the features despite the fact that I am using it for three years now. Thanks for the review!
For one, I did actually never notice that you could stick something behind the side pockets. Then there's the different options to fasten objects to the pack.
Very lovely to hear your impressions about the bag in the end of the video. I have felt the same about Fjällräven products. Once I just fell in love of first sight with Campus Ace 30, cause I had been looking for exactly this type of bag. Today I already need different type of bag, but still. Also have used one older model 50 liter bag which today is basicly Friluft. Travelled and hiked with it in Nepal in 2012 - very nice - it was sturdy though lightweight, loveably adjustable. Only thing was that it was too nice to use it roughly, if you know what I mean ;)
Hi! I have own a Fjällräven Helags 40 for almost two years now and I really like it! You have done a good choice of buying one :) For me it's the perfect day or two day pack which easily give you room for tent, cooking system, food and extra clothing. Nice review!
Well, it looks like my search continues... Thanks for the fantastic videos Kirk. I'm just stating out in camping, etc., and I'm learning so much from your videos! David
Great review of a nice pack. Having a tall back, most backpacks in the 35-45 litres range had insufficient length to them when I was looking for one last year. In the end, my choice stood between the Fjällräven Helags 40 and the Berghaus Centurio 45. Both would have worked out well, but I went with the Centurio 45 for a few reasons. It's more sturdy. Lot's of people online testify they have used the Berghaus Munro and other Berghaus packs during ten years of active service, and the Centurio should hold up equally well. The Centurio is also compatible with the ten litres MMPS side-pockets, which means you can easily create a 65 litres pack out of the 45 litres backpack. Last, but not least, the webbing on the Centurio 45 allows you to add extra pouches. I love it. But I know I would have been very pleased with the Helags 40 as well.
Truly excellent showroom! You are explaining and showing everything one could ask about the bag. Very good image and sound. Fjällräven should invite you to make their official videos as well ;) Their videos are usually lack of detail but also nice visually and by the mood. I also like your personal touch to the product and that you show your gear - it gives very real feel. By the case - how did you record the sound in that set? It is very precise and smooth at the same time. In forest I would just add some more amount of ambience.
Taisto Uuslail This video was filmed in the forest. We recorded the audio with a lav mic, which doesn't always pick up the most ambient noises. Thanks for your kinds words. We try to make the best gear videos for the consumer.
finally got one on ebay! 159$, new! olive green, like in the video. which is, by the way, really good. appreciate what you guys are doing, very well done. thank you. it 'only' took me about three days to find one, so don't give up if you doing your digging.
The place where you carry your cup is actually included to secure the handle for an ice ax or an ax in conjunction with the loop you have attached your carabiner. It can also carry some other items as you say or course. Give it a try and see what you think.
Excellent quality gear from Sweden - can't go wrong with Fjallraven... I love the G-1000 material backpacks... Thanks for the video and have a nice day.
great review.. great pack.. if it is loaded right up to the top of that extended storm flap does the top flap close up ok if it is full as well?.. thanks
BlackOwlOutdoors Yes thanks, but i was trying to get the real measures, since Fjallraven site doesn't have. But thank you again for the comment. (Sorry my English).
Hey. Great review. Had the chance to buy one but I waited too long. I spoke to Fjallraven US & Sweden. They said while they cannot confirm if this specific pack will be back, something similar will definitely be available in the spring time. Fjallraven shifts production between winter and summer gear.
Although a little on the pricey side, I like this pack. One thing I really like is that it is a top loading pack. I like top loaders because there is no zipper to fail, which equals a more durable/reliable pack as far as I am concerned. I agree with the color choice too.
Great looking pack. Fjallraven does make good equipment and it ain't cheap but it's suppose to last. I've been checking out their pants. Great review. Thanks. atb
Wow, what a great looking pack. I was gearing up to drop $280 plus international shipping on a Frost River Isle Royale, but these are on eBay from Australian sellers. Has pretty much the same features apart from the dedicated axe sleeve, but your Condor looks perfectly at home in that behind pocket area.
the side pockets with openings behind them for trekking poles, axes, etc are why I picked the kelty line. love a pack that allows me to put long items on the outside of the pack....leaving room for other stuff inside the pack. cost was way less than this awesome pack. I love fjallraven stuff, tho.
Hey Kirk what do you think about painting or staining conventional hiking bags? i got a osprey aether 60 and have seen very little about coatings on the nylon, but i wanted your opinion about if paint might damage the material.
I never thought about doing that - and I've never heard of anyone painting a pack. I really can't comment on it. Sorry man. Let me know if you try it. -Krik
One Thought then when would one have such a thing overnight? The answer is at prequalified location together jurisdictional permission and when the Air Pattern is 70 degree Farenheit at 4:00 A.M.. The one knowing the convenience store is only less than 1.5 mile away.
Very convincing review.....I'm not easily convinced. I totally agree with the subdued colours vs the bright stuff and the "classic" look without missing modern features. Next time please walk out of the Camera the other direction. So the viewer can see the Backpack "in action" a little longer.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on a great pack. Now I want one! I have a few packs (7) but have not found one that ticks all the boxes. Great video
Really intersecting pack with some nice useful features. Years of time in Special Force carrying loads up to 115 LBS, at times gives one some real experience on what is a good useful utilitarian pack. We had for years the large ALICE rucksack. However it in no way measured up to this one as to comfort. However our packs were designed to carry extra loaded M-16 30 round magazines on the upper part of the front of the pack, plus lots of attaching loops and straps. I would love to see a combat large pack that had some of this pack's features!🇺🇸🇺🇸👍👍🙂🙂🙂🏔🏔🏔
thanks for the in-depth review, confirmed my thoughts re this style of pack. I've been looking at this particular pack for a little while now and will get one at the right price, hehe. Right now I'm using a Deuter 32L pack and it is just a bit small for overnight scenarios. My larger Lowe trekking pack is a bit bulky for my needs and this one might just fit the bill. Obviously no one pack does it all.
Nice looking pack. Reminds me of a smaller version of the kelty red cloud. But as you said a more mute color. I'm a big kelty fan boy so hard to be biased lol.
I had a Redwing that I used very hard for field work for years. But it was time to replace it. But with the new Redwings, they changed a lot on it. Not all bad changes, but it wasn't the same, for me. -Krik
Thank you for your review. I prefer Karrimor SF Sabre 45, weighs not so much (Weight 1.84kg) , the fabrics is 1000D overall, you can attach side pouches (every has 12,5 lt volume), if needed, but you can of course use the bag without the pouches. Greetings.
trollkors78 I considered that pack as well. But I wanted to go with a company that has more of a trekking influence, speaking specifically on the suspension system. Thanks for watching. -Krik
haven't checked the site as yet, but do you know the torso length? an if you can get different lengths? as that is the most important aspect in fitting a pack
been considering a new pack, excellent and informative overview.. thanks! are there any other bags you would offer in comparison to this, and have you got any further pros/cons that stand out since you filmed the video?
Excellent review!! I will definitely be looking further into this one. I sure hope it becomes more easily available in N Am year-round (Not even on Fjallraven Canada presently, but may be up in the spring?)
D Doucet I'm not certain why these packs are so difficult to find. Maybe they're getting ready to replace it with something different? I would hope not. Unless somehow they managed to improve on this design. This has been my favorite pack that I've ever purchased. -Krik
Great review. Love the bag. Very similar to a snug pack rocket pack. Just wondering what brand of clothing you are wearing for your pants And shirt? Thanks
I bought this Pack a couple of Years ago from Sweden. It is Perfect to Store my Gränsfors Bruks Wildmarks Beil behind the Side Pockets and it is big enough for a couple of Days outdoors! I like the look of the bag and its Quality, in my opinion it is one of the best looking Backpacks! I don't understand why Fjällräven don't make them anymore

Great review. I love the looks and design of the pack, but it seems a bit on the heavy side for only being 40l. I guess that extra weight is in the material? I would use something like this for short distances, but it seems too heavy for longer treks. Krik, any thoughts on what distance you would comfortably carry this pack?
Cool design. It is based on a Bergen...as were a few of the Kelty and Osprey packs like Redwing etc. A main pack, two side pockets and a top pocket. Of course this Fjallraven adds a front pouch, which if you are creative the newer Bergans can accomodate. I recently procured a Berghaus Vulcan Cyclops 2 new and it has a very similar decades old design...albeight it's 100 litres so a larger pack. And it comes in 4 sizes. But the design is very similar on the whole. And I like it....I like it a lot.
I'll add that it's good to see you this passionate about a modern rendition of an older design. I have a feeling the Fjall may oulast the Redwing...by quite a lot. I like my Redwing but it doesn't feel like it will last. My Berghaus Vulcan and Fjallraven trekking pants feel like they will just keep on going....based on gear I have had that is still here ..and gear that has lasted a few seasons (largely 'ultralight' gear).
EarlyMist I was replacing an old Redwing with this pack. I checked out the new Redwings, and a lot had changed on them - not all bad. But they definitely aren't the same packs as they used to be. I wanted to just get a new Redwing, but I couldn't do it. -Krik
BlackOwlOutdoors Hi Krik. I'm not sure what they've changed but I like the side pockets and front organizing pouch of the 2012 years Redwing I got. I am not a fan of the mesh pockets on the sides though...they sag a lot and would probably only last a coupla years. The pack you chose looks a lot more durable in the long run.
At 06:05 you the strap is a little bit “proud” of a half inch and I’m wondering what that means lol I’ve never heard that phrase before. I’m guessing it means a little bit more than a half inch. Or maybe it’s definitely a half inch? Anyways could you enlighten me please? I love learning new idioms and regional slang. Thanks. Oh and nice video. Well done as always.
Excellent video and review. I appreciate the thoroughness, experience, and honesty you bring to these videos. Have you ever reviewed some military surplus gear to compare it to the civilian gear? It could be just for a goof, but a lot of people turn to mil-surp for the ruggedness, availability, and inexpensiveness of it. I'd love to get your take on it. Packs, sleeping systems, etc. Thank you again.
Great review, I really like this pack. Your videos are always well done and I enjoyed your music for the hills playlist. Sarah Jarosz's Shankill Butchers was amazing, thank you for that find. Have you ever heard of the band The Devil Makes Three? The Plank, Ten Feet Tall, Old Number 7, Chained To The Couch, The Bullet, are some of my favs.
What made you decide not to go for another Redwing? I was looking at the Redwing as my next pack, so I'm interested in knowing the biggest diff for you. I'm loving everything you're showing about *this* pack, though. I may have to take a closer look.
I bought my Redwing in about '07 or '08. While the overall design didn't change much. The zipper and zipper tracks were much smaller. And it didn't have the same "feel" as my older one. Overall I still think it's a great pack for the price. I've used a lot of bags for work and play, and I'm pretty particular now about what I want from a pack. Before I found the Helags, the Redwing seemed like the only option for the style I've been wanting. There aren't many packs that have those designs features -Krik
Sick bag now i don’t no what i want for an under $200 bag i was gona get the ll bean continental rucksack but this bag has way more features an looks dope as well
Jim Cyr I paid 180 for it. Other viewers have told me that it's been difficult to find them for sale. I guess I got lucky. I believe I ordered it from Moosejaw. -Krik
BlackOwlOutdoors It's pretty much right after the backpacking season now in Sweden, so they have probably shifted all their production towards winter stuff. If it isn't available now, it'll probably take until february or so until it's available again (at least that was the case when I tried to buy a Fjällräven Abisko Lightweight 1 after the summer).
Excellent review both in content and execution. You are very well spoken and informative. Love the pack although the lack of a dedicated bladder pocket does bother me. Still, its appeal to me is exactly what you mentioned - old world rucksack style with modern improvements in support materials and features. Any info on where we can find them would be helpful and appreciated.

Hey Kirk, I was wondering if you didn't mind sharing how tall are you and how much do you weigh? And if you have other body measurements, length of your back for example, that would be wonderful. I think this would be good information to have as a staple in the notes to your videos so the viewers can see the size that you have and use this as some sort of comparison to what will fit them best. But great video and great pack, I think you sold me on it. I will try and get one in the near future. Thanks
Alex Hren-Boulis I'm 5 feet 9 inches and weight 165 pounds. I would say my chest is a little larger. If something isn't going to fit me, it's usually in the chest. I have included these numbers in past videos. Sometimes I forget that people watching may be watching for their first time and not know these things about me. This is by far my favorite pack that I've every purchased. -Krik
BlackOwlOutdoors Thanks for the fast reply, man you are really making this pack sound wonderful. The only thing that I am scared about is that it will not fit my back. I am 6'1 and weigh 160 with a 22in back length and am unsure if this will be long enough to still be comfortable, I will be able to visit a fjallraven store soon and hopefully they will have one in stock for me to try it on. Great video man, super informative and very in depth you covered 99% of the questions anyone could have.
Alex Hren-Boulis From what I've been told from another sub, they aren't making this pack any longer. Bummer. I'm trying to get in touch with them and see what's up. -Krik
Ive been kicking around the woods with an old school book bag holding my BC gear, really need to upgrade. Saw this and thought it was perfect, but it's nowhere to be found. The closest thing is perhaps the Stubben for $250 plus $50 if you want two side pouches, wth! Would you have any current suggestions? Thanks!
I love this pack. I'm not sure if it's for me, but it's very well put together. I'd call it minimalist in style, but that minimalism stops there because the design can take it farther than just a small pack. Although, personally, I favor being able to hang a lot of gear on the outside of the pack to save space on the inside for various reasons, and to be able to make any number of items 'quick access' by putting them on the outside. Which is why I favor packs with MOLLE webbing. Honestly... This backpack is tempting although I already have all that I need.
I agree with you to some degree - I like have quick access items from the outside of packs. But I really do not prefer strapping a bunch of things to the outside of my packs, if I can help it. Neat and compact is my motto. That way you have less chance of getting things snagged on branches, etc. Thanks for watching. -Krik
Looks great, thanks for the vid! How do you feel about external frame packs? I really like the way those look too. Also, about how much weight do you think the Fjallraven can carry comfortably for several miles?
External frame packs have been used for a long time, and people still swear by them today. But personally, I'd rather have an internal frame. I agree with the philosophy that the weight should be carried on and close to your hips. -Krik
BlackOwlOutdoors Hey after some more time with the pack, do you think you could better answer that question about how much weight would be comfortable to carry for a several mile hike with this pack?
I completely agree about the asthetics and qualities of this pack.
Good info, thank you.
JoeRobinetBushcraft You're welcome. This is the style of pack I've searched for relentlessly. Unfortunately they aren't common. Hope that changes in the future. -Krik

Dude, _that_ is how a review should be done. You did a really good review.
I have the exact same pack and love it too! What's interesting is that I didn't know about some of the features despite the fact that I am using it for three years now. Thanks for the review!

BlackLegion I have the Olive green edition. Looks great :)
The inclusion of the rain cover is a classy move by fjallraven. Christmas is coming haha

did he honestly say that flask was 40l
40 oz
That pack looks so awesome.
Nice pack!

Holy crap! If Osprey and Daluth Trading Co had a baby it would look like this. Perfect bushcraft pack.
Keith Stevens HA! My thoughts exactly. Too bad they don't make it any longer.
Excellent quality gear from Sweden - can't go wrong with Fjallraven...
I love the G-1000 material backpacks...
Thanks for the video and have a nice day.
great review.. great pack.. if it is loaded right up to the top of that extended storm flap does the top flap close up ok if it is full as well?.. thanks
Excellent review... like always. Can you tell me the size for the side pockets? Thank you and keep up the good work.
Oliveira 78 Well, they fit that 40 oz. bottle with no problem. And there was room to spare. Does that help at all? -Krik
BlackOwlOutdoors Yes thanks, but i was trying to get the real measures, since Fjallraven site doesn't have. But thank you again for the comment. (Sorry my English).
Sweet pack Krik I agree it is a good blend between both styles is on the expensive end but it is fjallraven which is pretty bullet proof!
Thanks for this video, I’ve managed to get hold of one of these
Respect and a like for picking up the trash on the forest floor.👌
Nice pack! Great video review as always. Keep em coming. Be well & stay safe.

I was wrong, it was a 'large summit bag'. Seems like theres a US site that ships internationally called Moosejaw.com that sends them though!
Our remoteness is a curse when it comes to awesome new gear, especially rarer brands :/
the side pockets with openings behind them for trekking poles, axes, etc are why I picked the kelty line. love a pack that allows me to put long items on the outside of the pack....leaving room for other stuff inside the pack. cost was way less than this awesome pack. I love fjallraven stuff, tho.

What is the link for the wooden mug/bowl thing on your pack?
Cheers

haven't checked the site as yet, but do you know the torso length? an if you can get different lengths? as that is the most important aspect in fitting a pack
I do not know the torso length. Sorry. -Krik
Now I can give my daughter my Expedition and get this awesome pack. Great price for a 40L pack for under $200.
going to buy one now!
been considering a new pack, excellent and informative overview.. thanks! are there any other bags you would offer in comparison to this, and have you got any further pros/cons that stand out since you filmed the video?
It's Swedish can't go wrong with it!
Nice review of the pack.
what hat are you wearing in the video - its cool looking sort of wax finish?
Good video and love the pack liked and subbed 👍 love that axe too what axe is it?
Great review. Can you review the Fjallraven rucksack No. 21 large?
Thanks
Nice video! I like observing earth, discover and calm down...
This pack is truly one of a kind and in my opinion is the best pack of them all. If I could purchase this pack from you I would be so appreciative. Thank you again for your time.

My Berghaus Vulcan and Fjallraven trekking pants feel like they will just keep on going....based on gear I have had that is still here
..and gear that has lasted a few seasons (largely 'ultralight' gear).
Have you checked out any of the packs from Tasmanian Tiger?
My brother I see you wear this hat in a lot of your videos. May I ask where did you get it?
Saludos tortuga. Outstanding backpack. I would consider in getting one. Gracias amigo.
great looking pack...................
Where did you buy this pack? I can’t find it anywhere but I’d like to buy it
Excellent video and review.
Jim Maltese We never really touched on surplus gear. But I know what's out there. We've talked doing videos for it. We shall see.
Has there been a better bag since this as this one has been discontinued? This seems like nearly the perfect Bushcraft bag.
hi guys ! great video !! what's the hatchet name pls ?
What axe is that? Trying to look at your other reviews, but didnt find it.
Laap Saap Gransfors Brux mini
Laap Saap it's actually a condor Greenland pattern axe he has a review on it
Sick bag now i don’t no what i want for an under $200 bag i was gona get the ll bean continental rucksack but this bag has way more features an looks dope as well
Nice review. Who made the Kuksa?
Good review of the pack I'm really interested in it do you have a link to the specs or pricing for this I don't think I caught that during the video
Here are some specs in english : www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B003NFDKGK
Can’t find one anywhere. Any ideas
Great pack, great video!
I use this pack for hunting and Hikking and I love it! Also the Pants from Fjällräven. Best redards from Germany! Hans from Bushcraft Klaiber

-Krik
Is there a bag out there that is very similar to this?
I wish they still made this pack :-( it's kind new the best of both worlds for me
Can you please measure the back length? Do you think this pack would be suitable for someone who is 6'3" thanks
Merry Christmas
Hey....Great Video....I have this Backpack .
I wear it on a Hike....its good
Greetings from Germany

01:09 40l bottle?
Looks like a great, comfortable pack. But I think I'll still go with the 5.11 Rush 72 for my bug out bag. But for camping, I'd go with Fjallraven.
Are these discontinued cause I want one but can never find them.
Very nice pack ..and well done review. cheers ;-))
would you say that 40 liter pack is a good 72hr bug out bag..or should someone go bigger ??
Ive been kicking around the woods with an old school book bag holding my BC gear, really need to upgrade. Saw this and thought it was perfect, but it's nowhere to be found. The closest thing is perhaps the Stubben for $250 plus $50 if you want two side pouches, wth! Would you have any current suggestions? Thanks!
I'm am in the same boat as you. Really like this pack but also thinking about settling on the Stubben. Also seems like a nice pack.
Nice review and a nice pack and load set up. Count me in as a new subscriber.
presterjohn71 Thanks for subscribing! Welcome. -Krik
I really like this pack though. All the improvements I would have made to the Carson 90 too.
-Krik
Would love to know what make that axe is....
Jim Kristofik It is a Condor greenland axe
What's the shirt you're wearing in this video? I've been looking for a good long sleeve backpacking shirt.
