I have a few hidden woodsman packs and some of the smaller items. Hidden woodsman stuff is top-notch and the quality is above anything else. To be frank, but I am Ron: You can not go wrong with his gear!
I have Malcolm’s 25 L day ruck with Molly webbing on the sides where I added a water bottle kit on one side and a canteen kit on the other so I have plenty of water to carry. I think Malcolm should go back to Molly webbing instead of having the side pockets.
Awesome there is such good communication with the makers, @sgtshirley maybe the bottle holders but molle even on top would be a cool option for another version
Hello 👋 my outdoors friend greetings from Northern California. Thank you for sharing this informative video That is a good looking pack. Malcolm at Hidden Woodsman makes some great looking and practical equipment. You are always quite organized. All the best to you. Stay safe out there. 🤗
Nice day pack there James, thanks for the review. Definitely don't want to overload this style of pack/sack, this and a haversack is all you would need for a one night stand...er camp😉
I have versions of The Hidden Woodsmen packs from the 15 liter Day ruck Scout to the 60 liter Deep Woods Ruck. I love the Model 23 Ruck, and rate it just behind the Day Ruck for a mild weather overnight pack. I find that the side pockets do well with the Kleen Kanteen 27 oz or Self Reliance 1100ml Ti water bottles, which is probably something like Malcolm had in mind. Honestly, I normally carry my water in a separate side bag and the Model 23 side pockets normally house a machete or/and a folding saw. They work great for that. If I have any complaints it would be the yellow liner. While it works great, and night even be an improvement over the orange liner, I just prefer the orange. The Model 23 haversack paired with The Hidden Woodsman M44 haversack is my 2nd line overnight bag, just behind my The Hidden Woodsmen Day Ruck and Haversack pair. The Model 23 lives in my vehicle ready to go for whatever need may arise where it would be needed.
I agree about the side pouches. Im thinkin either increase the diameter of them to better fit the 32 ounce nalgene water bottle so it can more easily be taken out and put back in without puttin a strain on the bag material OR replace the side pouches with molle so a molle water bottle carrier can be added.
Great video! I do have that pack and love it and the only complaint I have is the side pockets but I found the smart water bottles work just fine in there with no issues but would be nicer to have those side pouches to be a little bigger. Love the channel and really love the area you hang out in. Great review.
Good morning, James. all good? Your review is very well done. I have several pieces of equipment made by Malcolm and they are all of excellent quality. Your observations of future changes are very pertinent. One of Malcolm's great virtues is always updating his equipment with improvements. Without a doubt one of the most important artisan brands for outdoor activities in the world. Congratulations on your very attentive and respectful work. PS: I love the sounds of Cuervo Negro. Does he have a band? See ya!!!!!
I love all of Malcolms designs but I gotta say, the 23 may just be my favorite ever! cuervo negros music can be found on all streaming platforms like Spotify
I do like this pack, I do not need another pack though as I have multiple. Great review of the bag, maybe some rubber band-type webbing for the side pockets It may allow for some needed flexibility but may compromise the long-term lifespan. I cannot wait for that knife review as if I need another one. I have won two already from the monthly giveaways.
Excellent review! Side pockets are one of my pet peeves also on any backpack. I grew up in Texas which has almost the identical type of environment of New Mexico and it’s a harder survival environment than a State like Georgia where I live now, where water and food is growing everywhere. Keep up the informative and beneficial videos. I’ve been looking at The Hidden Woodsman Gear since 2020 and the products are beautifully made with top notch materials, but I haven’t pulled the trigger because of price yet. It’s one of those buy ones cry once type products and I wanna figure out which one I actually want because I’m only going to buy one from The Hidden Woodsmen if I get one.
James your back up knife is awesome, I haven't got the chance to handle one yet, but its one I will get for sure! The Pack is amazing too! Thanks for the Video!
Gloves, leather Ranchers type, treated with leather conditioner for water resistance, with cotton garden gloves for liners. Generally I do not leave my gloves anywhere. Desert, that explains exactly why.
Thats a good lookin shirt you have on I love it. I agree the side pockets could be a bit bigger to hold a 1.5l bottle on each side. Maybe add some MOLE webbing to add a mag pouch?
HellToTheYeah Brother 🔥 love the model 23 Rucksack i have one in brown. Yeah that was my only concern was the side water pouches but not a deal breaker . It will actually hold a 32 ounce Nalgene but is snug
Its a good looking pack. I like the top loading, and that roll over feature. However, I would need the sternum strap and a hip belt. Plus if it was Molle compatible That would be a plus. I always seem to take more water then what I need. But better to have it and not need it, then the other way around. Oh, I'm not a fan of that camo pattern. I like Black, Green and Desert Tan. Where I live, winter means snow and temps below 32 at night. So no more camping for me this year. Stay safe and keep your eyes on the horizon. Oh, have you ever thought about carrying a small shovel?
I've been following you for a while and love ur channel. I recently saw something on another channel saying hidden woodsman is corrupt and people are distancing themselves from them. The channel is mount kephart outdoors. I'm curious on your thoughts since both of u have bought his bag.
I’ve been using hidden woodsmen Products for over 9 years. To this day, many of those earlier products are still in use to this day, so I have no clue what that dude is talking about. They’re beautiful gear, made in the USA, by one of us, so In what ways is HW corrupt?
That channel is full of Lies and drama. Just look at his other videos. He wears Hidden Woodsmen merch in all of his videos then makes a slander video out of nowhere.
@@chrisshepard495 What people dont know is that guy tried to black mail me. He demanded money or that he was going to make slander videos. How did he go from love to hate so quickly???
@@TheHiddenWoodsmen I subscribed to your channel. You should make a video on it calling him out. Not slander or anything like that obviously. But addressing it since it affects your sales and business. If it made me question it, then you don't know how many others have done the same.
Hey, I really like you so I thought I would share. Stop with the mouthwash. It’s nothing but hormone disruptors and could potentially lead to future health problems. I would recommend non fluoride toothpaste and water. Now, go get your boots dirty 🎉
Interesting. The material is not wet worthy at all, but has grommets on the side pockets in case of a down pour to drain. AND, the top pocket is double scrolled over and clamped to seal out WHAT? Rain? The material you told us is not worthy of the trail. I think we need to go back to the drawing board and create a pack that is made of a material that is both durable and water proof. Not water resistant. BTW, I am from Arizona.
how is it not wet worthy at all? ive used packs made of the same material in rain and snow and my gear was fine. if you're planning to go scuba diving, then yeah, you may want look for a different pack
@@JunkyardFox I am a scuba diver. :) Something is either waterproof or it is not. That is all I am saying. Living in AZ for 27 years in the monsoons, water resistant doesn't cut it. Especially in a survival situation. Not bad if your truck is parked 250 feet away. Bag looks great and the layering of the materials is effective, but I am looking elsewhere for my day pack. But, thank you.

Came here at Corporal's Corner recomandation. Nice show!

a nice 1.5" wide piece of stretchy elastic sewn down the outside center of that side pocket would be perfect for retention and easier access.
Cool fit you got going James
maybe some elastic at the top to close it snugly to both help keep the water cooler and keep it debris.

right? its got all I need for staying out for the night
I'm just going to say it since you brought up green chilies James New Mexico Green Chile is way better than Colorado green chile
I gotta definitely agree! Colorado green Chile is for cowards!
It needs to be a little bigger so I can fit in a backpack tactical nuke for when I'm hiking in zombie country.
