On the farm, we typically had Hampshire pigs…. occasionally there would be a red Duroc. I wanted the neighbors which I don’t know the names, but there was a white one like what you had. Anyway, I was around pigs, growing up my whole life, and I never saw pigs built the way the pigs, this man raises.(and you as well, Tyler !!). I wish my dad was alive to show him the confirmation of these pigs, young pigs, and also as adults. They’re just massive and they’re hind end… so very muscular and I can imagine it makes for some really good eating when you butcher. Sorry those of you who don’t like to hear that but there is nothing better than homegrown butchered meat. You know the grain fed you know the corn they had you know grass and hay ratio etc. and it all goes into the flavor of the meat and muscle. I like nothing better than a Bone in ham❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️ days and days of great eating, no way meals with side dishes but sandwiches, too.
My grandfather raised pigs. He kept 300 in a open field surrounded by two strand electric fence. I enjoyed feeding them as a kid. They all seemed to enjoy eating as they would all smack their lips. Grandfather would always keep two to butcher at home. He had a large iron pot that he filled with water over a wood fire to heat water to scrape the hair off the pig. He would then clean the pot and put the fat in it to render out lard. He would keep enough in the pot to cook cracklings in. Man they were good. Nothing like the bags of store bought pig skins as they had small pieces of meat attached to the cracklings. Those are great memories for me.
You are raising 10 pigs this time? I thought last time it was less......either way, it is nice to know where you get your pigs from. I also like how the pig farmer takes the pig's comfort into account. Yes we raise these animals for food. Doesn't mean their lives have to be miserable. Our farm was that way too back in the 1960s and 1970s.......thank you for being good farmers.....😊
Thx for showing us the piglet pick up process. Hope it helps Ryan out too. Your Channel is my favorite. Just a few acres with Pete is up there too. You all remind each other. Hard working, get it done, care about the animals and make it and fix it yourselves attitude.
That is the best pig farm I've seen, and the little piggies are really NICE! You found a great place to get your pigs. I'm in Texas so won't have the opportunity to get them. Hahaha
Seriously, that was an amazing looking Piggery. I know pigs can be really destructive and messy and those farmers clearly really have pride in and care for their livestock
Good Morning, FTR! Salt Blocks for Steers! Nice looks Steers! Fly Traps in Jars! Smelly! Attractive to Fly! The Trailer! Piggies 🐷! Pig Farm! Great Personalities these two! Chasing Piggies 🐷! Love to run! Cute Little Piggies 🐷! Oh! My! In with the Big Hogs! Mrs FTR and Family! Hello! ❤❤❤❤❤ Big Bore! 10 Little Piggies! Great Video! Thank-you! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I wondered if you and Pete follow each other. You have very similar farming philosophies and skills, and equally enjoyable channels. Well wishes from Cheyenne WY!
Another great video especially with Mrs FTR and the babies. It is also wonderful to see you getting 10 piglets. I think 10 is the most you have had a one time is that correct? Also good luck with fly traps.
He has some nice breeding stock and nice solid piglets. Nice to see the pigs are friendly and the boars mellow and seem to enjoy attention. The farrowing stall set up is nice for the sows and piglets. I enjoyed raising Duroc pigs, they were for the most part cooperative, liked attention and pretty mellow pigs. The piglets grew out very well and usually were at processing weight at 5 to 6 months old on no soy no gmo feed fed in a self feeder, garden scrap and what they ate in the field. I always had a waiting list of people wanting half and wholes for the freezer, the meat was outstanding. I am seriously thinking about finding 2 -3 young sows, breed by AI so I do not have to keep and maintain a boar again and starting to raise them year round. I am more than ready to retire from nursing and farm full time.
I cant believe u mentioned Pete @ Just a few acres...Farmer Tyler Ranch & Sonne Farms are my 3 favorites! Got rid of cable tv and only watch farming videos! Thank you!!
I was watching another youtube channel today, which was Country View Acres and he was testing a solar generator. He was testing all kinds of things running on it. (Ecoflow solar generator, btw). He was running his TV and low and behold, he was playing FTR youtube channel, and he announced it. Cool stuff! On the fly traps in the field, you mentioned you saw those on Just a Few Acres, with Pete Larson. I just happen to watch that channel too. He had best results with those fly traps over the water tank, when the cows were drinking. You probably already knew that though. Great show as always!!! Thanks for you channel!! Jim
Hi to Farmer Tyler Ranch and all others too. Wow so great of showing other activities on the farm about the animals. I seen the screen you post those pigs😄😄thanks for sharing your videos. Everyone have a great and bless day. God Bless You all
That was a really interesting Tag along with you Tyler. I always enjoy, so interesting the life of a Rancher. Thank you. Stay Safe Pray in Jesus Christ ✝️ name for our America 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I had 5 hogs about 6 months of age and a 6 to 7 hour drive home was in August in Arkansas the hog had wheat stubble in the trailer for bedding and before I left I took a waterhose and wet them down and I wet them down just about every two hours to make sure they were cool. When I got home I fed them with a liberal ration of wet feed wheat shorts and water 💧 a very good ration for hogs in summer...
The key to success with fly traps is placement. You have to place them in a spot where livestock like to loaf. They also work better if they are in a shady area. Flies like to hop off the cattle and roost in cool shady spots.
Man im glad there are still some pig farmers left. Here in SC they are few and far between. I used to get them from the Clemson University swine center but the shut it down.
Re: : fly trap - if it doesn’t catch many, try putting it away from the salt blocks. The flies may decide that since the steers are there, food is better than an attractive smell. In gardening it’s the same - draw them away from where you don’t want them. Re: : berry vines by the water trough - if Mrs. FTR likes making jam & jelly, put a bird net over the bush and pick them as they ripen!
I follow Pete too. He's a good story teller. Did you see the hay he just cut? That won't be looking that lush here in California. This is the most pigs you've grown out, isn't it? They are good looking pigs.
Great to hear you watch Pete from Just a Few Acres Farm too! I really enjoy watching videos from both of you guys. Im gonna have to give some of those fly traps a try myself!
I’m kinda curious so why do you only have your steers at the lease pasture? It would make more sense to have all your cows there since your having to drive so far. It would be more time consuming having to go check on two herds of cattle than to just drive to one place and check on them all, and your pastures at your house would have a longer rest period.
It may be TMI, perhaps giving the ambient temp in lower corner would interest folks. I spent some pivotal years on a farm in Central ca, it can be brutal.
Tyler, awhile back you wanted me to let you know how I liked the redmond blocks, I've had 2 out for the cows for about a month now and for some reason they don't use them very much at all, they will lick the regular salt and mineral blocks alot but not the redmond blocks, don't know why, but thought I'd let you know, thanks
Good for you for giving Ryan the opportunity to advertise his business. Independent ranchers and farmers deserve our support!
i justcwishbi lived closer!

You are such an awesome person !! To help others sell their stock . Was great to hear a young man so polite !! Thank you so much ❤
Yes all of Ryan’s kids are polite like that. A real pleasure to be around!
Such a nice family pig farm. Great to see people with compassion and care.

Yes! Homemade pig skins are the best

Just a few acres is one of my favorite channels.
That's the beauty of modern communications where two farmers (Tyler and Pete) from each coast can share information.
Pretty amazing isn’t it?
Lekker man lekker 🇿🇦
The fly jars are the best, using for years now, only issue the STENCH! Pete has a great channel and very knowledgeable
Love the Pigs! Tyler and Pete, Dynamic Duo
That thorny bush looks like a yummy pie filling or ice cream topping soon.
The kiddos are growing so fast.
This was a great video
Thanks gentlemen for the great information.
great video farmer Tyler we appreciate you sharing that with us great video thank you God bless you and your family and your Ranch
Scanned most of these posts. I would only be repeating what positiveness that has been stated. Thanks Tyler, another good FTR video!!
Those flytraps work very well. If you think the trap stinks now wait until it’s full of flies.😣
I can imagine!
That was fun to see the animals and your family. thanks.
That was awesome you giving Ryan a chance to do a shout-out about his business. It is always nice showcasing local farmers & ranchers.
I wondered if you and Pete follow each other. You have very similar farming philosophies and skills, and equally enjoyable channels. Well wishes from Cheyenne WY!
Like firewood chopping ; work up an appetite wrestling piglets! LOL

Pigs are so cool. And loving animals.
Run run run run run as Pete says. 😂👍
That big strong dude Ryan, was one handing those pigs.
Great job
Keep them coming
We use those same fly traps and they work great!
Ok to watch Pete, just don’t start with the Dad jokes!
I enjoyed the video.
Haha don’t worry!
Love the pig farm! Oh and maybe mention pig boards. They make "herding" pigs much easier!
Pete is great..........
I like the ameriag insecticidal face strips. You put at your salt and mineral feeder. I think it helps alot with preventing pink eye
Awesome episode. I use those fly traps for attic flies and they work great.

Those traps work miracles. Put one in my barn stall and was packed full of flies within 2 days.

Well this was a real fun adventure seeing everybody and the pigs that you got are really nice looking and they're so cute 🥰
FTR and just a few acres are my go to TH-cam farm channels!
Man that's a nice looking set of steer.
I enjoyed everything about this video. Thanks for sharing it all!
are these the garlic/salt links? How are they working for fly control?
Those pigs are SUPER SIZED!
Hi 👋 how is your day going
Hi

Really enjoyed the video good 👍
I hope you do raise pigs - they are so cute!
Great to hear you watch Pete from Just a Few Acres Farm too! I really enjoy watching videos from both of you guys. Im gonna have to give some of those fly traps a try myself!
Good one
Fun video! As a human, I need to watch my sodium intake for heart problem issues . Lucky cows, lick all the salt you want.
Oh wow you do pigs too. That's a lot of them. You selling some.of them bad boys?
Oh yeah no way we can eat all of that!!
2:49....yeah, I can't do that...unless I need to bend a gate real good. lol 😆
Haha!
Thanks 6-9-2022👍🏽👍🏽
thx
" He really likes it here" no kidding.
I’m kinda curious so why do you only have your steers at the lease pasture? It would make more sense to have all your cows there since your having to drive so far. It would be more time consuming having to go check on two herds of cattle than to just drive to one place and check on them all, and your pastures at your house would have a longer rest period.
That pasture isn’t big enough for the entire herd and the reason it’s only steers is so I don’t need another bull there
It may be TMI, perhaps giving the ambient temp in lower corner would interest folks. I spent some pivotal years on a farm in Central ca, it can be brutal.
Will the salt from the salt blocks kill that tree in which you hung the flytrap? I know that our salt block killed the grass around it.
No I don’t think they’ll bother it
Tyler buddy that trailer needs a serious clean,
Tyler, awhile back you wanted me to let you know how I liked the redmond blocks, I've had 2 out for the cows for about a month now and for some reason they don't use them very much at all, they will lick the regular salt and mineral blocks alot but not the redmond blocks, don't know why, but thought I'd let you know, thanks
Thank you for the update. I would try removing the other blocks. Sometimes it’s tough to get them going on something they’re not used to
