I was a child at that time and i still remember her.. she was soo cool.. and watching the behind the scene i know she looks like really a good person. Thank u maya
Series One will always be my favorite, but Catherine Schell was an amazing addition to the cast in the Second Series. She was also brilliant in "The Guardian of Piri" episode.
I just love the warmth and humour she exudes in this interview! This is all the more apparent if one watches the whole set of interviews this excerpt comes from (included as an extra on the Season 2 box set DVD) as it follows a rather businesslike sequence of similar length interviews with Gerry Anderson, Martin Landau and Barbara Bain (who seems to be struggling to stay awake) and then along comes the colourful Catherine Schell with her lively and good natured personality, a real breath of fresh air after the somewhat lifeless exchanges that precede hers. She is just so charming and amusing, grinning like a Cheshire Cat throughout (she doesn't even have to turn into one, even though she could! 😆)
This is the uncut version of the interview done in 1976 on the "Matter Of Balance" exterior set. She was a wonderful addition to the show in my view and Maya was and is a wonderful character.
I remember being totally fascinated by her when I was tiny....I just remember turning the telly on and seeing this strange beautiful woman turn into a huge scary one-eyed alien...FAB!
@crazycliveI heard Gerry Anderson say that it doesn't stand for anything! Did he mean that? Was he joking? I don't think anyone really knows, but I love his imagination... especially Thunderbirds 👍😀
Hi, I believe FAB or F.A.B. is short for fabulous, a kind of 60's saying, 'Thunderbirds' used it as a kind of acknowledgement, like saying 'Roger', 'Understood', or 'all good'. Yes Catherine Schell aka 'Maya' were FAB! As was Barbara Bain as 'Doctor Helena Russell'.
Very very pretty that Maya. It was syndicated on CBC in Canada and played every week back in 76/77. Was 8 at the time and was one of my favs along with The 6 million Dollar Man and The Rockford Files and Quincy M.D.
A longtime big fan of the show, I was watching this interview for the first time, hadn't seen your comment yet, and as soon as she started mentioning animals, I was thinking "she's already a fox in the first place"...and than she actually mentioned becoming a fox...and then I wondered how far I'd have to scroll before seeing a comment calling her a fox...and yours was the first one, haha!
"What am I doing here today? I'm going to turn into a fox today!" has got to be one of my favourite quotes of all time!! (and the gleefully conspiratorial way she shares this information is the perfect finishing touch!) 😁🤣
From the late 60s to the mid-80s Catherine Schell was more often than not cast as an exotic, smart and intrepid woman (whether in drama or comedy): Space 1999, The Return of the Pink Panther, The Search For The Nile, Napoleon and Love, her bit part as a Bond Girl in On Her Majesty's Secret Service, etc. If only she had been chosen to play Janeway on Star Trek: Voyager.
While I thought series 2 wasn't as good as series 1, I did enjoy the addition of Maya. Catherine had a lovely playful personality that came through the character. Just as stunning as Maya, as she was as her character in the series one episode 'Guardian Of Piri'.
Maya was the star of the show imho. I loved Myas hairstyle she was very ladylike and kind but at the same time could change into some muscular reptilian and beat the crap out of anyone. MARVELLOUS!
When I first saw Ms Schell in The Pink Panther, I was convinced I was witnessing real chemistry between her and Peter Sellers... I would love to know more? So so natural on screen. 🏆
Io ho sempre amato Maya, il mio personaggio preferito qui nell'episodio italiano intitolato "Vindrus" e poi Catherine Schell è sempre stata una bellissima e simpaticissima attrice e donna! ^_^
Such a Flirt. That Guardian of piri outfit she wore sexy. 70's women were so sexy STRIKER would have loved her in a purple wig and silver suit on U.F.O
Its the 70s women had beards under their under arms and rain forests between their legs. (Ladies who read this iam not sexiest but thats how it was in the 70s)
When I saw Space:1999, it was a rerun showed in Atlanta and I was a little boy; she had a exotic allure to her, even more so in her "Maya" character. Forgive me for this now 41 yr old for having the words to express what my eight year old self couldn't.
Judging by various contractual limitations she had imposed on Catherine's appearances I'd say that was quite certain. I think she should have been called Barbara Vain!
I remember seeing this interview (along with some others) in a half-hour documentary/promo that went out on the the day that the second series began (4 Sept. 1976). It went out on the Saturday morning (and was simply billed as Space 1999 - no other qualifying title), while the opening episode itself went out in the early evening. I don't know how widely it was shown, but I saw it on Westward TV. It's odd that the completed doc has never resurfaced, just the interview elements from it (as far as I know).
I would have liked her character so much more if they had just made her a sort of alien Emma Peele with brains and a secret talent for whoop-ass. Still, a very good actress. Just cursor through the video and notice that you can't find a frame where she pulls a stupid face - wow, most celebrities and politicians would love to have that level of skill.
Not only is Catherine so stunningly attractive, but her laugh is infectious too :) She seems a lovely person.
I was a child at that time and i still remember her.. she was soo cool.. and watching the behind the scene i know she looks like really a good person. Thank u maya
Catherine Schell is beautiful with a good sense of humour uncomplicated and an easy smile, very charming.
She seems so sweet and upbeat. She really captured the imagination of a child in the 70s.
Series One will always be my favorite, but Catherine Schell was an amazing addition to the cast in the Second Series. She was also brilliant in "The Guardian of Piri" episode.
She was one of my first crushes!
Mine too

This woman (as Maya in the tv series) was my childhood sweetheart when I was a child...more than 40 years ago.... sob!!!...
She is pure class!

I love that she's in makeup as her character for the interview.
The Shermeen episode.
Her laugh is so sweet.
Brings back a lot of good memories, I was ten at the time, lovely Catherine!
Gorgeous woman. I am impressed by her fun personality. She is so classy too! I could watch her talk all day long. That’s what I call natural beauty.
So lovely and such a wonderful laugh.
I remember being totally fascinated by her when I was tiny....I just remember turning the telly on and seeing this strange beautiful woman turn into a huge scary one-eyed alien...FAB!
Do you know what
FAB stands for?😀
@crazycliveI heard Gerry Anderson say that it doesn't stand for anything! Did he mean that? Was he joking? I don't think anyone really knows, but I love his imagination... especially Thunderbirds 👍😀

I love Maya :-) Thanks for this great upload - I've never seen it before.
Beautiful interview
Very very pretty that Maya. It was syndicated on CBC in Canada and played every week back in 76/77. Was 8 at the time and was one of my favs along with The 6 million Dollar Man and The Rockford Files and Quincy M.D.

De très bon moment même encore aujourd'hui vous nous manquez
I really believe her when she says she has the power of molecular transformation
Catherine Schell was already a fox!

Gorgeous and photogenic read head lady and beautiful and deep speaking voce
Grew up in the 70s watching her in different things and had a massive crush on her, especially in the Persuaders and Dr Who
Io ho sempre amato Maya, il mio personaggio preferito qui nell'episodio italiano intitolato "Vindrus" e poi Catherine Schell è sempre stata una bellissima e simpaticissima attrice e donna! ^_^
Very classy lady. Classy and fun.
Love Maya!
A VERY beautiful lady! ❤❤❤❤❤
she was incredibly beautiful in "The guardian of Piri". She looked as beautiful as this girl from Ridgewood High School named Nancy Ruberal.
Such a Flirt. That Guardian of piri outfit she wore sexy. 70's women were so sexy STRIKER would have loved her in a purple wig and silver suit on U.F.O
Hairy as well
Its the 70s women had beards under their under arms and rain forests between their legs. (Ladies who read this iam not sexiest but thats how it was in the 70s)

I love you Catherine..
My significant other's favourite character when she was a kid!

Doesn't she have a lovely giggle!
Catherine Schell is the only reason it made season 2 watchable. A very beautiful alien woman who was also intelligent.
Catherine Schell and Lyndsey Wagner we’re both my boyhood crushes 🥰
from maya thank you all ...!!
Both Maya and Sandra Benes my two favourite female characters of the show
When I saw Space:1999, it was a rerun showed in Atlanta and I was a little boy; she had a exotic allure to her, even more so in her "Maya" character. Forgive me for this now 41 yr old for having the words to express what my eight year old self couldn't.
Muy simpatica ♡♡♡
Didn't anyone explain to the inimitable Mrs schell that she already is a fox? 🦊
Her character sort of reminds me of Dianna Troi on Star Trek: The Next Generation
When the animals etc etc and Maya transforms does the actress Catherine Shcell stand behind the film camera to watch the watch the scene?
She’s lovely.
Watched the series live when it came out. She still reminds me of Tom Baker of Dr.Who.
She was in Dr Who with Tom Baker, " City of Death "
My love forever

All I can say is, Very Nice!
Muy guapisima. Maya estodo un amor
I was a child when I saw Maya, I always wanted a woman like her!

The most influential woman from media in my childhood 😅 lol i actually had a crush on her as a boy😂
Catherine was pretty hot and a talented actress but I think the 1st season of the show was definitely the best.
Maya can be adapted in Marvel and DC comics, as a Super Heroine
me encanta maya sus ojasos se conbierte en lo q sea
Beautiful, bella, όμορφη ! :-)
Such a delightful example of womanhood
Fox, indeed!
ouh she my fav of the women from this epic sifi show
I suspect that Barbara Bain was jealous of her.
Judging by various contractual limitations she had imposed on Catherine's appearances I'd say that was quite certain. I think she should have been called Barbara Vain!
Maya please transform into suspenders & Stockings & make dreams come true .
Catherine was lovely as Maya. But she was absolutely stunning as the Servent of the Guardian in the Season 1 episode "The Guardian of Piri".
Yes ! Ναι !

So that's where Midna came from. They even meet her in a prison.

Catherine was lovely in a Sweeney episode as well.....

I only ever watched this show for this woman .... period!!!! Smokin' !!!! The rest of the show was a crap show.
she is Genoune. Who's 2024?
I would have liked her character so much more if they had just made her a sort of alien Emma Peele with brains and a secret talent for whoop-ass. Still, a very good actress. Funny, that's exactly how I feel her character was portrayed; ''an alien Emma Peele with brains and a secret talent for whoop-ass''.
after this ... man .. shows ... tv .. everything went downhill, except maybe x-files and fringe
ok
british wonder woman and spock
