As a photographer who's lived in Golden Bay for 30-something years, I'd like to say, "Nice shot of Wharariki, man..." When you come back to the Bay, there is so much more for you to check out. Definitely go up the Cobb Valley and also head out to Totaranui. You can visit two amazing and completely different places - say, an awe-inspiring cave and then a beautiful waterfall, or a truly incredible alpine area and then a gorgeous and pretty much deserted beach - every day for week after week after week in Golden Bay. You just can't see it all - no matter how long you live here. And the scenery is nothing compared to the people there. Watch out... You might end up staying. It happens to the best of us.
Wow that’s really nice of you to say that! That means a lot. Heaps of good spots to explore still, thank you for all of the other recommendations, I will make note and try and see a few before we head out. Honestly, I completely understand why people stay here 🍻
Fantastic video!! Arguably THE most beautiful area of NZ and so underrated. A highlight of our travels for sure. I hope we get to return for more exploring here! 🥰
What a video guys ! Born and breed New Zealander here and never been too Nelson before but I do now even more . Thanks for promoting all country! We need all help we can get. Our Government should start paying you .🤔 East Coast North Island pretty cool to. Shot👍
this is so cool donovan! we had the same idea to go to this spot during our working holiday here in nz - really cool seeing your perspective first. great video!
So glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for saying that 😃 It’s shot up our list of places on New Zealand and we really think it’s a must see. Let us know if you need help finding a cold beer in the Nelson area 👍🍻
Next time make sure you see the Canaan downs, its like the area just outside the shire in lotr, theres also a big hole, and some caves on the Takaka hill.
Absolutely crushing it my guy, the first star you see is Venus. Man I remember coming down from the north island as a youth going to a dance festival called the gathering on top of Takaka Hill, good times. Hardwoods hole is a cool place to check out if you like adventure. Tickets are expensive but you should go to L.A.B and Sublime concert, Nelson Jan 5th 🔥 Merry NZ Xmas to you both 🍻 🥝
Thanks! That’s great to know, we didn’t even look to see what stars were out that night… that sounds really awesome man. Merry Christmas to you too!! 😃🍻
If you head back over the hill, check out the Mussel Inn at Onekaka, just south of Collingwood on the main highway. Neat little quirky pub and micro brewery, and their Captain Cooker manuka beer is superb.
Great trip but you missed the best part, the drive to Whanganui Inlet which turns off the main road before you get to fairwell spit. It’s up there with the most spectacular drives in NZ especially at high tide. The road goes all around and across the largest inlet in the country. You feel like you are driving on water.
Is that right? Good to know. I’ll be going back there to show some family members so I’ll make sure to check that out, thank you for letting me know!! 🍻😃
Wow such a cool night shot. Fav holiday is Golden bay and i only live in Māpua ! So pleased you enjoyed it. I tried those night shots but didn't come out half as good as yours - kudos. You videos are getting better and better editing wise ka pai 🙂
@@donovankelly12 haha no problem love watching your tours around New Zealand as I don't often come to appreciate this land until I see someone else react to it but for me it looks just like any place in the world because I don't travel
That night shot at the beach was beautiful. I really need to take my kids since I live in Motueka. Pupu springs is the second clearest water in the world, the clearest is blue lake Nelson lakes National Park.
Thank you so much! Yeah I kinda sped through Pupu springs at the end so thank you for saying that. Truly spectacular place to see and so easily accessible from the road 😊
@donovankelly12 Canaan Downs is just past Ngarua Caves on the Takaka hill. It's the turn off to Harwards hole, the deepest natural hole in the southern hemisphere. Also the home of the world's only carnivorous snail, which happens to be massive. Plus the filmed part of some movie there call lord of something there...
@@donovankelly12The dance party called the Gathering used to be held there. We could hear the bass easily from motueka. The traffic would be backed up into Riwaka all the way up the hill. It was number three on Oprah's top 10 millennium gigs.
Hamurana Springs in Rotorua are just as clear,if not more, and you can walk alongside the river,so clear you can even read the name of a Golfball that made its way from the course on that section.
Excellent stuff Donovan. You've genuinely inspired me to see more places in NZ. Have a really happy summertime Christmas😊 - I know it's not like a winter Christmas and will feel a little bit strange ....but I hope the sun is shining and you and Brittany don't feel too homesick👍
So glad to hear it 😃 thank you for that. It’s definitely not a winter Christmas haha you’re right about that but I think it will be a nice change. Will be fun to FaceTime family members in the sun ☀️ 😅 have a wonderful holiday 😊
Yep that beach is In my opinion, the most beautiful beach in nz. Although you do need to see it on a good day as on many days of the year the wind blowing through there is pretty intense
Yip you have learnt about the kiwi sun. The UV levels in NZ are 40% more than that recorded at comparable latitudes in North America. You can get sun burnt even on a cloudy day here.
@@donovankelly12 Plastic lined Aluminum cans leech flavour into the beer, this can be hard to notice with craft brew and other beers with strong flavors. I find it quite noticeable with subtley flavored beer like lion red Waikato etc.. Also it is the og way to drinks these beers 🍻 😎
If you're still in that neighbourhood for Christmas, you'll be in a perfect spot, especially if you find yourself at Wharariki beach. EDIT: I typed too soon.

Couldn’t agree more! I got a funny feeling we will be back 😉
It's NZ best spot if you ask me, beyond special !
Love it, but Piopiotahi/Milford Sound will always be 1st for me - so much spiriuality there, too ❤
It is great to see my country through someone else's eyes. One becomes very complacent growing up and living here.
No Ferries soon thanks to the Three Horseman in Government.
Glad you enjoyed it! I know what you mean 🍻
W❤W! That’s Incredibly Stunning And Breathtaking Adventure! Cheers!🥂❤️✨
SO happy you enjoyed 😃😃
Bloody great stills!!...
Thanks a lot! Really appreciate the comment. Cheers 🍻😃
Wow!!! Wharariki Beach - daytime & nighttime…STUNNING!!!😲🤩❤❤❤
It really is!! Thanks for watching 😃🍻

It’s a pretty great spot! Didn’t see a whole lot of coverage via TH-cam on the area so we are trying to do our part 🍻😃
Have a great Christmas mate, hope you and Britt get the absolute best weather, and food.
Thanks a lot Andy, really appreciate it. Have yourself an awesome Christmas 🍻
@donovankelly12 Thanks mate,I'm flying home to Auckland on Sunday morning, first Christmas back home since 2010.

I’ve had that beer here in Nelson but it’s definitely on my list to go there in the coming weeks!! I’ve heard great things 😃🍻
Love your videos seeing my home country from far away
in Barbados!
So glad you enjoy them! 😃
One of the best things we ever got to experience in Cable Bay was a full moon rising in Collingwood. Unreal.
That sounds really cool! Haven’t experienced that yet, might have to look into when we could see that. Cheers! 🍻
Great video

Good call, a few of the locals we’ve talked too said it can get extremely windy, but we got lucky 😃
I visited here few weeks ago and I wonder that is it possible to go there at Midnight to shot a Star photo? I thought it’s close after sunset
You should be able to get a photo of the stars after midnight!
Yip you have learnt about the kiwi sun.

Yep! Always slapping sun screen on but I tan really easily so I’ll be super dark in no time haha
All kiwi beer should be from a bottle that was your first mistake.
Really hey? Why a bottle, more oxygen in the bottle than a can plus light stroke affecting the beer
