Ok , you have to stop making each video better than the previous one all the time. I've run out of words to convey how emotionally invested I am in craft beer and now fresh hop beer and the people who have the passion to make this all happen. Thanks again Donovan for a pure gold video.
Hey now you’re getting way too nice in the comment section here 😂😂 I can’t thank you enough for the kind comments you always leave. It really makes me want to make more vids, thank you so much!!
Congratulations Donovan 🎉 You have made the step into professional documentaries with this one! This was truly an amazing video! I am so proud of you for all your success and accomplishments on your trip and how happy you look just says it all! #coloradoavalanche
Absolutely incredible!! Such fantastic footage and interviews with these hop enthusiasts. This is such a special time in the Nelson/Tasman region and it was an incredible privilege to be a part of it. Fantastic work!! I hope we get to return for another hop harvest season in the future 😍🍻
Yeah production quality on this video was top notch. I think Donovan should explore this talent further. I see other youtubers do travel vlogs for big media outlets, Eva Uzbek for DW Travel for example. Just a thought.
@Donovan Kelly, what a great capture of how special time in Aotearoa New Zealand. A whole lot of hard work in a short period of time. Late March/ early April is a great time to visit Aotearoa New Zealand.
Thanks a lot! The amount of hard work is really inspiring, especially when you include the fresh hops they organize with the individual breweries to make sure they get what they're looking for in the prime picking window too. When I come back, I'm coming back at that time 👌 Thanks for watching 🍻😃
Wow, Donovan, what an incredible documentary! I'd title it "From the Farm to the Glass"😜 - Bravo! I know I've said this a bunch of times, but you're truly, truly a master storyteller and a fantastic videographer. 👍👏 Even for us non-beer lovers, we've learned so much from you. I even had to translate "hop" into my mother tongue - talk about a linguistic journey! 🤣 I always thought beer was made from barley; mind blown! 😱😜 Watching this videos is like tapping into our inner engineer spirits - we love seeing all the equipment and the mesmerizing process of separating those hop "flowers" from the plant. We learnt that actually a whole plant was harvested not only the "flower".😱 And your infectious enthusiasm and happy face just make everything better - amazing! I never thought I'd say this, but when we vist NZ, a brewery tour is a must. 😱 Wishing you all the best, keep those cameras rolling, and keep blowing our minds with your skills and enthusiasm! Cheers 🍻 Lots of love to both of you💖
Thank you so much for the amazing words that always put a smile on my face! You are way too kind 😀 I hope when you come to New Zealand you not only do a brewery tour, but perhaps a hop tour if you’re around between January and March! All of the best to you, thank you for always watching 😃🍻
54°C - jeez, that's brutal! You can tell the dedication of everyone involved, including you, Donovan! What an amazing documentary - this is the kinda stuff you expect a massive production team to be involved in - I'm not even that interested in beer, and I still found it fascinating and got so involved - thank you for sending us this amazing content! ❤
Wow thanks a lot, Trudi!! It was so fun to make and I am so glad you found it interesting despite not liking beer 😂 thank you for always supporting and commenting. It means a lot!!
@donovankelly12 Jus seem to love whatever you guys do! Question: do you know if the hop farms have taken over from the tobacco farms in Motueka? I know the tobacco farms were everywhere there when I was little, and I wonder if the hops have been planted there instead?
Well thanks so much for saying that 😃 I don’t know that, but I know Mac Hops has been around since 1900 and New Hoplands has been going since the 1950s so there might have been a few tobacco farms in and around the area!
Ahh, so definitely different sites then. I do wonder if some of the tobacco farms have been turned into hop farms (or vineyards) - at least, I hope so!
It's been an absolute pleasure watching you and Brittany on your adventures in Nz, especially in my home town of Nelson. Safe travels into the unknown and I look forward to watching both of you're journeys.
One thing I've noticed is you can smell certain hops.. some smell mild and some are really strong... All it takes is an experience on hop farms to understand how much work is involved to get to that golden nectar. Thanks for showcasing our amazing region.
Haha I had to be pretty honest with all of the hop growers, MOST of the hops I smelled were EXTREMELY similar in aroma and I couldn't notice a whole lot of differences. Riwaka was the one that stood out to me and it's becoming my favourite hop 😃 Thanks for watching and leaving an awesome comment, David!!
Hahaha yeah I know right, a lot of emotion right there. That hop project 24 was 10/10 and I'm a little bummed I don't get to try the last 2 fresh hop beers from Eddyline... 😭
Thank you so much for saying that! I appreciate the feedback on the audio, it was stressing me out for awhile there 😅 it sure is a special place. I will miss it.
I enjoyed the video. I recently spent 2 days in the Nelson area as part of my vacation (from the US). I had some great beers at Eddyline (biked up there). Dan from League of Brewers hooked me up with 750g of (pellet) New Zealand hops that I hope to put to use soon in a few homebrewed beers. Cheers!
@@donovankelly12 I got 8 different hop packs, but I am excited about the Freestyle Kohia Blend, the Superdelic, and also the New Zealand grown Willamette. I think I was there during hop harvest, so I missed out on the fresh hop beers going on tap.
I had a blast at the fork and Brewer on Friday, From the video it looks like I should have been getting the Ferry after work so I could have got to the end of the Fresh Hop festival in Nelson. Oh well. It added to the ist of things to do next year (-: and Donovan - Welcome and glad you like UnZud and our beers
It sure is!! It’s too bad we couldn’t arrange an interview together before the end, Alan gave me a heck of a lot of insight into the brewing process and he’s definitely a great guy to sit down and have a beer with 🍻😃
I do the night drying at another hop farm in Motueka. I would average over 30,000 steps every shift, thats over 22km. The amount of time spent walking up and down stairs is crazy too.
Haha yeah it was a pretty amazing turn of events to have this all come together and it sucks to be leaving so quickly but I’m glad it happened! I will miss this place for sure 😃🍻
Is the next video - A monologue of you showing us how to brew beer/ fresh hops included and producing the end product as a Canadian Pale Ale? All you have learnt about NZ brewing me thinks that this would be the next step?.
Haha that does sound like a good sequel, unfortunately it will be about Abel Tasman or leaving New Zealand 😞 but I don’t think that will be my last hop harvest in New Zealand 😃🍻

My first summer after leaving school, I worked on a Nelson Bays hop farm.
Formative memories.
Looks like a hell of a lot of hard work and repetition, but everyone I talked to was having a good time.
Really cool explanation of the style. Fresh hop beers can be a bit hit and miss for me but I loved finding out more about it.
Yeah I can see that, I tried a few that were not so pleasant. I think the ones that are brewed well are out of this world!
