If I was buying shoes I'd go with Altra and get your feet back to a normal shape. All of my arch pain disappeared when I started wearing wide toe box shoes and using toe spacers to correct my foot shape. I hope this helps someone experiencing the same issues.
Great info! I'm currently using the Ballistic Trainer High Top as my everyday shoe; for the past 1.5 years - even handles some easy hiking trails. Testing out the Rough Runners now for rucking, and really liking them.
You know coincidentally, I was wondering what shoes I should get when it came to rucking around the block, would that be the rough runners, over the trainers since I'm not necessarily planning to do workouts in em.
So the ballistic trainers are similar to Nike metcons then? Those are my go to trainers atm but really hurt my heal on sled pushes. Would you rather use the rough runners for rucking or the mackv or boots? Currently my rucking and just hiking and backpacking shoes are the Salomon xa 3d pro.
Thank you. Never looked at GR before. Just learned from them. Do the trainers have any cushion? Need an everyday walker that will stand up to my weight and still be good in the gym. I was looking at other brands that offer high stability with cushion. Are these close are at? Thanks.
Hi JB, thank you for your vids, subscribed.....! How do the Mackalls compare to the Ballistic Trainers for rucking 15 to 20km with 30 lbs? For me, I'm mostly on concrete pavement, tarmac road, asphalt, and some trail (10%). I was also looking at the Rough Runners. But I don't really run nowadays. I ruck regularly for the above distances, 4 to 5 times weekly- not sure which would be best for durability and comfort in your experience. I'm 6ft, about 180 lb. Do they all run true to size in general? Read mixed feedback so in general for most people would be good reflective feedback. I won't hold anyone to anything ; the decision to buya certain size is my responsibility. Thank you for sharing. Cheers
I think Rough Runners are better road rucking shoes. Too firm for me for running. I’d say if off-road go Mackall. If road/path go rough runner. They’re true to size for me.
@@JBOutside1 Much appreciated, JB! I need a firmer shoe yet cushioned for rucking on tarmac road / pavement so it seems the RRs to buy! Are the ballistic trainers comparable to the RRs for longer distance road rucking or just flatter-soled and therefore not quite as ideal since their purpose seems more tuned to gym / do-it-all, all-round shoes? Initially I thought the RRs were too "running shoe-like" with the usual squishy running midsoles but your vid addressed this and got me rethinking. I'm definitely also keen on the Mackalls / Mac-V2s for different purposes. Do you think from experience, if I purchased the Mackalls over the RRs for a start, and used them primary for 90% road / 10% trail, they would not be as ideal since their's is a more pronounced thread meant for off-road? Some heavy-thread shoes don't feel pronounced on road at all, and are just as comfortable. Thank you for your greats vids and work on Goruck amongst others. I like your indepth analysis and feedback on how stuff feels to you. Keep it up, JB! Keep well.
@@philippang07 the Mackalls will do great as a first shoe to try for both road and trail. The ballistics are meant for gym workouts and are good for very short runs as part of a gym workout. But if you’re looking for a longer distance shoe I’d go Mackalls or RR
@@JBOutside1 I deeply appreciate your feedback from valuable experience, JB. Love your vids as long as you're not bored. Take good care and keep it up!!!

Good stuff. I like my Altras too
Once Altra sold out to North Face, their natural foot shape has significantly reduced

I'd say so. if you're gonna do any running I wouldn't want the trainers (I have them and love them but they're just in the gym for me, no running)
@@tuckerneal122 awesome thank you for you for the advice
Yep. Tucker is right. I’m good for about 800m in the trainers. Anything longer and the runners are the way to go
Had the exact same question, thank you kindly

Random, but could you lift weights above 300-500 pounds in the MAC V1’s?
That IS random…or more like really specific. Unfortunately I couldn’t tell you.

They have cushioning enough for walking and gym use. The Rough Runners are more cushioned for running
hey JB- which gym in JAX do you train at? the interior shots look great!
No gym in JAX I regularly use...mostly...wait for it...OUTSIDE 😜
98% of my Rucking will be on pavement, which one is my best choice? Thanks
Rough Runners is my first choice. But if you feel like you need more ankle support then try the MACV-1s
@@JBOutside1 Thank You!

My MACV-1 highspeeds shrunk after getting soaked by muddy water, now I can't wear them. Ooooof
bummer
