The GORUCK Rough Runners is the first running shoe to hit the market from GORUCK.
The Rough Runner is designed to be a running shoe that can handle both road runs and casual trail runs. As a fan of the GORUCK Ballistic Trainer, I was excited to put the Rough Runner to the test.
In my GORUCK Rough Runner First Impressions video, I'll discuss my thoughts on this after my first 5k.

Overall, I like the Rough Runner and I'm excited to continue testing these shoes over the next few weeks.
These shoes have some classic GORUCK features which I appreciate and I think GORUCK fans will resonate with this model.
The Gradient Density midsole and dual-compound rubber outsole are both hits for this shoe, in my opinion.

Got mine Wednesday afternoon so I haven't been able to get a lot of training in them yet but I did a mile 30# ruck shuffle, and 1 mile of sprints so far. Also took them on vacation with me and put about 12000 steps in them a day the last few days. Looking forward to more runs and rucks.
How have you like them thus far?

Midsole bounce and cushioning? Outsole grip and durability? Upper breathability?
These are looking good. I'd throw some elastic cinch lock laces on them.

Jake I got the McCalls for rucking the desert hills where I live. I see you wear minimal shoes. I have to for years worn 5fingers to lift in. Have you tried the Belleville Mini Mils? Love to hear your opinion if you have.

I don’t consider myself to have a super wide foot at all. I don’t use wide shoe options and for workouts I think my metcons are perfect. But it seems like GORUCK shoes are really narrow. Both the ballistic trainers and now these. Im not sure they will really break in or feel any less tight. It’s a shame I wanted to like these.
I purchased these as soon as they dropped. Been waiting on these since they teased them earlier this year.
Went for a short walk then a run in them yesterday and love how they feel. Gave them a look over after and noticed the tread on one shoe is shredding in various places. It’s pretty strange as I never thought I had any gait issues. I even inspected my other shoes and found no similar tread wear. But it was HOT asf out yesterday. So I’m wondering if the pavement temps were beyond the treads threshold for max heat? Which would be even weirder as I’m in KY and GoRuck is FL based.
But if this tread wear continues I’ll be reaching out to the company.

Interesting! Mine don’t even look phased after my 5k. May be a one-off. Def hit up their customer service and I’d ask about that, too.

how does this compare to the hoka arahi 7s?
I haven't tried that HOKA model and I can't speak to it for that reason!

@@thatfitfriend Shoes/Boots. I began rucking with 35# just using the Hokas & Keens I have. I ruck hot desert foothills but also some sidewalk. I am leaning towards the MacV-2 or McCal. Appreciate your thoughts.

What type of shoe do you typically like for running? More or less cushion?
