Great video, red one for me, I like how you explained how to deal with the curvature like that, I was wondering how you solve that problem on the laser
Thank you for the information. Haven't done color ones before. Inkscape ver 1.0 now has extensions that can import .cdr and .ai files if they don't have access to Illustrator or Corel. The jig idea was priceless.
I’ve tried that in the past. The issue I ran into was that it ends up not engraving all the way through the powder coating out on the edges. With leather ones it may be fine that way. It’s the powder coated ones where you’re trying to get through that layer that it ended up having to be that way.
@@MakerExperiment Ah, makes sense. Even the way you did it the "high spot" in the middle of the flask doesn't look any different from the rest. At least in the video it all looks like pretty crisp lines.
Bear Maked... that is what I do on an Epilog Fusion 40 120 Watt... it works great on sides and middle. I find if I focus on the outer edge, the heat from the laser discolors the stainless from too much heat.
Trevor... can you demo a Powder Coated JDS 15 oz. handled Coffee Mug on the rotary? Do you still have your Fusion? If so, can you demo it on that laser? Thanks...
Robyn James if you’re just wanting to use it occasionally, I’d start with the K40. If you’re wanting to run more production level runs, I’d increase your budget.
Doncar06 technically yes if you only engraved a thin width the length of the bottle. The issue starts when you try to engrave down the curved surface where it’s no longer focused properly. It’s not really possible to engrave around a mug without a roller. But if you are only engraving maybe 1” wide it may be worth a shot.
Rock it honesty depends on quantity. If you’re only doing one, I’d make sure it’s worth your time. Your pricing should be calculated based on your cost and your labor. My rates most likely aren’t the same as any other person. My suggestion is to calculate your cost for machine time, labor, and overhead and calculate the cost that way. Just giving you a price is kind of misleading as the prices change based on quantity.
Great video - favorite color flask...probably blue!
My favorite is always blue. I don’t really give other colors the chance.

There’s definitely a learning curve when it comes to working with curved surfaces like this.
@@MakerExperiment ha see what you did there

I like any colour flask as long as it isn't empty 🤣
That is a great answer.
I'm using an xtool D1 laser, what is the best way to find center of the flask every time, the easiest way? Thanks
I’m not familiar with that laser and its capabilities or how it works. Is there a center-center option or you could make a jig to do it.
@@MakerExperiment OK
As always - great video!
Thank you!
Good video what setting used?
They’re in the description. I hope that helps.
Great video...Thanks from Pahrump!
Trudi Broadhead I’m glad you liked it.
Orange! Do you think if you focused the beam at about the halfway point of the curve it would work? That way the top isn't as out-of-focus.

Bear Maked with a powder coated one, it looks great. Leather may not work the same.

If it was done with two passes, one focussed on the centre and one focussed on the outer edge would it make much difference?
I’ve never tried that to be honest. I think it would end up kind of wonky but I could be wrong.

If I ever have someone want that mug I can.
What wattage is your laser, and what speed / power did you use?
It’s a 60 watt. The details are all in the description but I think it was 100% power and 70% speed.
Do you have a recommendation for a laser engraver that you can use at home?
Robyn James it depends on what you’re looking to do with it. What’s your budget? What are you wanting to make?
@@MakerExperiment small budget (under $500) and I want to engrave some flasks for friends and maybe some metal luggage tags!
Robyn James at that price point your only real option is the K40.
@@MakerExperiment is it worth it to increase my budget?
Robyn James if you’re just wanting to use it occasionally, I’d start with the K40. If you’re wanting to run more production level runs, I’d increase your budget.
Hello, quick question, where can i get that focal point guide(blue)? @5:25
re low it came with my machine. If you have an Epilog, you can contact the company to purchase one.
@@MakerExperiment thanks !

What machine are you using?
It’s an Epilog Fusion M2 40.
What settings/speed do you use on the powder coated flasks?
I’d have to look but I think it’s around 100% power 70% speed.
Blue, or one covered in leather....
I didn’t have any leather ones this time around but blue is always a good choice.
How much did you charge for one?
