PPMS! I found this piece to be quite informed and sensitive while worth every bit of laughter it induced. I was born in 1987 and can vaguely recall it's original airing. I was only 15 when I first noticed symptoms, 18 years later I find myself in the least bit triggered by an almost 30 year old commentary/skit. I'm shocked that they were this mindful and progressive.
I was born in 81 blind in one eye, party def in both ears, and have Asperger's syndrome, and remember the original airings of this very well, as In Living Color was hugely popular in my school growing up, and was required Sunday night viewing, and I don't recall anyone being offended at the time. Also I've never let my handicaps stop even me even though I can no longer drive, I still go to work everyday, make a living helping others in my community working for a non profit for seniors, pay my bills, keep a roof over my head, and take care of my family like a man!!! People are just too damn soft these days, and want everything handed to them on a silver platter their way, or no way, or they curl up on a little ball like a child. To these people I say grow up, grow a pair, don't let your faults stop you, and get on with life!!!

He felt disabled people were largely ignored, and why shouldn't they have a badass superhero to look up to? No, we can't just overcome our conditions/afflictions for the sake of plot and narrative furtherance but that's the joke! The joke is on the fantastical minds of white men writer's as well as the society that implored and consumed this malarkey.

I'm handicapped and I think this is hilarious. It's even funnier now than seeing it when I wasn't. Some disabled folks, not all, but some, simply don't get it. I saw this with my brother in the early 90s. We both laughed so hard we were unable to hear the entire dialogue. Years later I learned the show was cancelled due to complaints it was offensive. I never watch TV anymore because it is pc and stupid.
Seeing all the comments from the disabled saying they find this funny makes me happy. It's good to find humor in ourselves. Same thing with our cultures too. I'm Mexican and I saw a white man interviewing Mexican people while he was dressed in a sombrero and a sarape. He asked them if they were offended and they said not at all, in fact they were proud. The white man then interviewed college kids and asked if they were offended and they said yes that hes appropriating their culture. It's always the other people who think they need to speak for others who are offended and all of todays youths. I'm a child of the 80s and happy that I grew up when I did.
