This ended up being a huge single for Bolton and made him beloved by housewives all over. You may recognize Michael Bolton from the Lonely Island song Jack Sparrow "MC Hammer" in a parody of "U Can't Touch This". This is probably one of the more accessible parodies. Before his downfall, MC Hammer was known for his high energy dance rap and wearing ridiculous outfits with parachute pants. Fun/sad fact: MC Hammer's "Please Hammer Don't Hurt Em" album that had "U Can't Touch This" is the best selling hip-hop record ever. "Crystal Waters" in a parody of "Gypsy Woman (She's Homeless)". Waters, who ended up being a one hit wonder, had pretty big success on the charts with the song Gypsy Woman (She's Homeless). Despite trying to be a "message song", its chorus was a not-so-thought provoking "la da dee la da da" repeated over and over. "Vanilla Ice" in a parody of "Ice Ice Baby". Another accessible parody. I'm sure everybody at this point knows who Vanilla Ice is and has heard Ice Ice Baby so I won't cover this one in any detail other than to say at the time this was pretty cutting edge satire. "Prince" skit with Butt Out Jeans. This is primarily a reference to Prince performing at the 1991 MTV VMAs with assless jeans which was pretty shocking at the time. "Paula Abdul" in a parody of "Promise of a New Day". Believe it or not, Paula Abdul was once a pretty popular pop star. She had gained noticeable weight in her video for Promise of a New Day and this is making fun of that. Hey, In Living Color was never known for its subtle or high brow humor. Parody of LL Cool J's song "Mama Said Knock You Out" starring "Jimmy Walker". Jimmy Walker was in the 1970's sitcom "Good Times". His character introduced the catchphrase "dyn-o-mite!". He had little success after Good Times and this song references his attempts to resuscitate his career. "Michael Jackson" in a parody of "Black or White". Black or White was the first single from Michael Jackson's Dangerous album. At this point his skin had lightened considerably from what it was before. The rarely seen full-length video was some 11 minutes long and ridiculously opulent with numerous celebrity cameos (including The Simspons). It was one of the first time many saw "morphing" being used in mainstream media. Anyway, the the video included an extended epilogue which is the primary focus of this parody. In the epilogue Jackson smashes up a car with a crowbar (in the original video the car had racist slogans and imagery on it) and does a lot of crotch grabbing. If you haven't seen it before, watch the original full-length version and bask in the sheer WTFness of it. I'm sure you can find it on TH-cam, just make sure it's the 11 minute long version.
Great work, just need to add that the original Paula Abdul video for 'Promise of A New Me' used some aspect ratio trickery to make Paula look thinner which is just absolutely ridiculous for the sheer audacity of it. It has to be seen to be believed.
Einstein Adonis I had completely forgot about that (the main memories I had of that video were in the waterfall scenes) but on rewatching it, you're completely right. It's as if they filmed it in 16:9 and then squished it down to 4:3. So bizarre!
I was in my 20's back then 1. We ALL thought Julie Brown was faking her accent. She deserved to be roasted 2. That song Kim did was so LAME back then and it deserved to be roasted 3. We ALL thought Vanilla Ice was a joke, trying too hard He deserved to be roasted 4. People thought Prince proved he would never be accepted to hang with the homies" Because yes, the butt out at the VMAs was so crazy....and I forever love Prince, and even I was like what is he doing? 5. Spot on, Paula was getting fat and her video was OBVIOUSLY stretched...she was asking to get roasted 6. Oh I forgot M C Hammer...it was just hilarious for skinny Tommy to be wearing those pants, so he was the joke, not Hammer so much. Everyone wore those damn pants back then 7. Sean Wayans being Jay Jay. He tried to be as funny as his brothers but it never worked on that show 8. Oh we ALL thought it was funny as he{{ that Michael sang Black or White and looked so white. Black community loved him but gave him the side eye for that one...thus the punchline " I guess I am black " after getting arrested. Tommy did a great job.
This show was fifty times funnier than SNL. It never stops being hilarious. The parodies were so damn good. The Jimmie Walker one had me dying, too, but the MJ one was by far the best. Shit was so harsh lol. I remember people being pissed about that one at the time as well.
As my Dad had lost faith in SNL in the mid 80s,as had most,I was introduced to In Living Color when it came out before I EVER saw SNL. The talent they had was amazing as was ALL of their Musical Parodies!!!! I quoted Homie Da Clown and Fire Marshal Bill in Kindergarten. This show was brilliant and I miss it in the same way I miss the first 5 years of MadTv!!! Excellent writing, innovative, and on the mark socially!!!!
A show I have truly missed many times, many years, since it went off the air. The talented group of actors and comedians, dancers and singers, that made In Living Color so incredible. So many of them went on to become huge in many different ways. It would be incredible if the original cast were to reignite the show again, sadly though, it would never happen. And the show just truly wouldn't be the same without the originals. THANK YOU to ALL OF THE CAST AND CREW of In Living Color for making many nights absolutely hilarious. I have incredible memories of watching the show. I don't think I missed a single show during it's short run.
They did at the time. SNL wasn't doing musical parodies (not really). The Lonely Island guys started doing them in the 2000s, but they were almost separate from SNL.
You had t the best. I was super young tryna watch this, but couldn't really understand. At least you could comprehend the significance of this show when it first aired 😎
Based on the short time frame "In Living Color" was on the Fox network. They produced more stars then "Saturday Night Live," "Mad TV," and "Second City Television." Remember Jamie Foxx won an Academy Award for the movie "Ray" and James Carrey was nominated for awards in his role in the movie "Mr. Majestic." Keenan Ivory Wayans picked that whole cast. Wasn't they something! Great memories.

I'm sure you can find it on TH-cam, just make sure it's the 11 minute long version.
theficus Thank you for this!
theficus thanks for the breakdown as I even forgot who Julie Brown was.
So bizarre!
I was in my 20's back then
1. We ALL thought Julie Brown was faking her accent. She deserved to be roasted
2. That song Kim did was so LAME back then and it deserved to be roasted
3. We ALL thought Vanilla Ice was a joke, trying too hard He deserved to be roasted
4. People thought Prince proved he would never be accepted to hang with the homies" Because yes, the butt out at the VMAs was so crazy....and I forever love Prince, and even I was like what is he doing?
5. Spot on, Paula was getting fat and her video was OBVIOUSLY stretched...she was asking to get roasted
6. Oh I forgot M C Hammer...it was just hilarious for skinny Tommy to be wearing those pants, so he was the joke, not Hammer so much. Everyone wore those damn pants back then
7. Sean Wayans being Jay Jay. He tried to be as funny as his brothers but it never worked on that show
8. Oh we ALL thought it was funny as he{{ that Michael sang Black or White and looked so white. Black community loved him but gave him the side eye for that one...thus the punchline " I guess I am black " after getting arrested. Tommy did a great job.
This was the only show that made me cracked up soooo bad in the 80's and still due in 2022 🤣🤣🤪
This show came out in 1990, not the 80s
Despite these being parities, everybody on living color is incredibly and undeniably talented!!!
Parody*
The Heavy D song and seeing the Cast brings back some really fond memories . Love It !!!
This show was fifty times funnier than SNL. It never stops being hilarious. The parodies were so damn good. The Jimmie Walker one had me dying, too, but the MJ one was by far the best. Shit was so harsh lol. I remember people being pissed about that one at the time as well.
I really miss this show!!! This was me & my friends go to show on Sunday nights so we could crack up about it Monday morning in school
Wow you went to the studio every week to watch them tape a new episode with a friend? Must be nice living the life!
Real talk!! Hell me and my friends didn't even wait until Monday! Hell we called each other soon as it went off!!😁😁😁Good ol days
@EDDIE BONE read it again, think u miss understood
@@soulintake No, we didn't go to the studio, we watched it every Sunday night
@EDDIE BONE That's exactly what I meant, I watched it
Jim Carey did good job playing vanilla ice
Angela S Did you see the guy dancing next to Jim snapping his head back 😂
Shaquille Sunflower didn't see that guy
There will NEVER be another show like In Living Color…no remakes, no reunions, no imitations…leave it as the classic it is. So glad for TH-cam…
I'm an elementary teacher and have a student who quotes TIMMY! all the time. Yawn. I wish he quoted this.
When Jim hit that high note.Loool!
I cried real tears when it first aired and today😭😭😭😭😭😭😭🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 #classic
A show I have truly missed many times, many years, since it went off the air.
The talented group of actors and comedians, dancers and singers, that made In Living Color so incredible. So many of them went on to become huge in many different ways.
It would be incredible if the original cast were to reignite the show again, sadly though, it would never happen. And the show just truly wouldn't be the same without the originals.
THANK YOU to ALL OF THE CAST AND CREW of In Living Color for making many nights absolutely hilarious. I have incredible memories of watching the show. I don't think I missed a single show during it's short run.
In Living Color doesn't get enough credit for the music parodies they did.
Hell no they don't.
They got slept over sadly
Yeah, the dvd release made sure of that.
They put so much effort into them with the dancing and the long takes.
They did at the time. SNL wasn't doing musical parodies (not really). The Lonely Island guys started doing them in the 2000s, but they were almost separate from SNL.
The 90s, I miss you so damn much it hurts!
I feel so old, I remember when this all aired the first time, was 20 years old.
Now my kids are sitting here watching this and laughing.
ziggy morris damn you are old lol
that's a beautiful thing isn't it your kids enjoy something from your youth
@@Shortlady82 😂 exactly what im thinking lol
Im getting there myself but i was 3 or 4 at the time
You had t the best. I was super young tryna watch this, but couldn't really understand. At least you could comprehend the significance of this show when it first aired 😎
Great memories...
Jim Carey is amazing.
James Carey, which is what it said in the credits, which I've never heard him referenced as🤗
Dude can really sing
Scott Daniels He is the best!!! Stupid funny!’
My favorite part of the 90’swatching in living color the music parodies thanks for bringing back some good memories
"Ray" is bullshit. Like all biopics.
I liked Ray 🙌🏾
@@equusquaggaquagga536 I only commented based on the star power of cast members of In Living Color produced after they left the show. You do have a right to your opinion. Okay.
@@toriredmond1380 Miss, Redmond, the answer is who didn't like "Ray." Respect to you.
@Robert Scott 😭🤣😭🤣
R.I.P Michael Jackson and Prince...
And heavy d who did the intro.
Michael Jackson was pure talent. Miss him so much
A lot of little boys wouldn't agree!!
Kris N
It’s amazing how the father of the little boy. Wanted money to fund his project Michael refused. Then the boy made his claim. The father settled out for wow the same amount. What a coincidence. If it was your child would you want money or blood
@@krisn8820
Piss off, you ignorant sack of garbage.
The comic genius of this show is still unmatched even today! The one and only "In Living Color!"
Tommy's Jackson impersonation still best to date, epic it was then, and now
make money koubi abdallah french
"You'll keep buying my music... because you're mindless... Like me you're mindless." Still accurate of many humans.
30 years later still remember every one of those
Jim Carry can sing
ruben parker 😲😲😲😲😲
Yes he can! I love him!
the Michael Jackson.....
He really can.
That’s what I just thought
man... i am 32 and i remember every single one of these! i don't even know how my parents even allowed me to watch this haha
migol1984 exactly there with you lmao
migol1984 true that. Except i watched it with my dad.
migol1984 dude I am almost 34 and I still remember all of these. Hard to believe this show came out almost 30 years ago.
This was required watching in my house, never missed an episode.
migol1984 I'm 37 and followed the show quite closely in my younger years but I don't remember quite a few of them either.
Man the nineties was something different to all the eras, period, blessed to grow up in that time, especially the music was the best, and these skits was 😂😂😂😂😂🔥🔥🔥🔥
Crystal is spot on with the Julie Brown impression lol. I know the real Julie Brown isn't that ditzy but still, very funny.
Crystal is such a underrated cast member that I don't know if she's an actress or a comic.
actress
my old music teacher says he dated her...idk tho
The real Julie Brown was literally that dumb lol
@@grimm_destroyer5566 lol, at least she's not an airhead like Paris Hilton lol.
Tommy Davidson is a riot! In living Color still funny in 2020.
I looked forward to this show every week, too bad it didn't run longer.
I remember when this show went off the air. I was mad as hell. The best comedy show ever!
The cast was so talented. Majority had at least one signature character that made return skits.
This brings back positive memories of the 90’s. We need this feeling now more than ever. Too many people are so insecure, they have forgotten what a joke is. This show should be aired on all major networks daily to remind people of this.
Tommy Davidson’s Mj skit was absolutely incredible. I remember thinking the same thing when it originally aired. Me, my brother and sisters never missed an In Living Color episode
Great memories.
This was a great show! Laugh out loud from beginning to end!
this show hosted an absolutely incredible amount of talent - think about all of the careers it launched
Oh God this show was so hilarious 😂 I loved it. There will never be another show like this one again.
the spanish no say pants
Who predicted Jim Carrey and especially Jamie Foxx skyrocket after In Living Color ended? Two of the most important comedians...two of the best impersonators...two of the greatest (dramatic) actors.
Anyone who watched the show saw their talent. Though, it's really hard for me to take Jamie seriously as a dramatic actor seeing him as "Wanda".
Jimmy Walker Mama Gonna Kick Me Out... Always has been my favorite since I first saw it as a kid. Such a great impression!
Why do mama scream and shout jj get your ass out lol
His mouth looks disgusting.
I showed my children these clips once, now I can hear them cracking up watching repeatedly LOL. Gold
Man, this is such a throwback. Me and my sisters recorded this on VHS and to this day it is our favorite ILC special of all time. Brilliant writing and comedy genius.
This has me in tears..man I miss this show! Nothing like it ever since! All Star cast!
talk for thrue
to fatima and eyes
They were all so talented! Wish this show never ended
This was the best show on TV and nothing today can compare.
In living color was 100 times better than SNL Shots out to the waynes brothers from Oakland California.
@Ewolf5150 1986 sir lol thank you though.
@Ewolf5150 34 but i get carded all the time g. Its a good thing to look young my guy. 1
I loved this show and MAD TV. Always wanted to be a fly girl 🎵🎤
Tommy's Hammer still makes me cry with laughter every time I see it 😂😂😂😂😂
Tekayh Crystal Keymah was sooo talented. All the accents she could do..British, Jamaican etc.. I woulda bet money she would blown up more. (Also feel bad for Crystal Waters being made fun of...that song was a good song...how many people think to sing about the Homless?)
El Vee You mean 😏 T’Keyah---not Tekayh---”Crystal” Keymah.
*Homeless*
El Vee Jay Coleman is right 👉, it's spelled Homeless, not Homless.
Sorry but her English accent (not British...no such thing) was awful lol
No way you're English saying that.
It's funny as hell because Crystal Waters was a "One hit Wonder" and Kim Wayans parodied it perfectly 🙌🏾😂🤣😄😅😆
Kim is so damn funny she doesn't get enough credit
She really don’t lol
funny ladies rarely do get enough credit. and pretty funny ladies have it harder than all of them. it seems that most people just can't accept that beauty and comedy CAN mix!
i can name 20 male comedians to every one female comedian. but that's true in just about every aspect of life. and morons say sexism is a thing of the past. ya, right.
And her Crystal Waters is SO GOOD!
Kim is a total package.
Agreed. I enjoyed it when she played Benita Butrell
I had a VHS copy of this for years. My family watched it so many times that as I watched it just now, I remembered all the words to the WHOLE episode! Even the Downtown Julie Brown parts!
"MY SONGS ARE MINDLESS" basically 2017-18 in a nutshell ... Esskeeit, Gummo, Kooda...
You are so right, how does shit even make it?!
She summed up recent hip hop and pop fads...remember Kanye's Jeezy fashion and "Scoobity whoop poop" song.
Tommy Davidson in those M.C. Hammer pants. LMBAO!!!!
I'm crying laughing watching this at 2am, God, how much I miss In Living Color!! 💯💯🤣🤣
I wish in living color was still on the tv good I miss it so much
I loved when it use to be shown on BET at midnight ten years ago 😔
They still air reruns on FXX. All the episodes that are shown aren't butchered like the DVD versions
All of it is on TH-cam... for free :)
Joedy Martin it comes on late evenings now. Marathon status.
