    Ahh! This video was so well done! I am obsessed with apartment hunting videos and you guys did an amazing job! The Toronto housing market is wild right now. I actually just started renting a 1+1 in Dundas Square for $1700 a month. Before COVID, it rented for $2300 a month. It's definitely a good time to go apartment hunting hahaha. Although whoever is charging $10k for that is a bit... optimistic.

    I love how North American people consider buildings post 2000 as old lol
    Makes you smile when you live in 100-200 year old buildings in Europe 😅

    • @stephandden
      @stephandden  3 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      It is funny! It’s ‘old’ compared to all of the brand new ones - but truly old architecture is always a different league!

    • @setinthestones
      @setinthestones 3 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      10 years "old" doesn't have character yet, just outdated LOL

    • @andrewxiao1138

      It's because all these condo's were constructed so rapidly, most use the cheapest materials and construction techniques. They often require repairs after 5-10 years, so a 10 year old condo in toronto is considered old lol

    • @kart112
      @kart112 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I moved from UK to Canada and yeah I found that weird too! I was living in a Victorian house in London that was probably better quality then some condos I saw which were built like 10 years ago. Lol
      Just can't compare when it's a house Vs a condo.

    • @ameliaryczek8433
      @ameliaryczek8433 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Trust me, there are plenty of people in North America who want to live in 100-year-old buildings.

    You would have to be a fool to spend $6,000 a month for an apartment! You would be better off BUYING a unit and putting the money towards a mortgage

    • @stephandden

      It depends on your income and time, for sure! We personally would agree though!

    • @MrSohildeep
      @MrSohildeep 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes but for $1700 unit its better to rent it, if you buy it you would have to spend minimum of $3100 a month.

      Depends on your stage in life. Everyone’s initial goals is to own. Some people have been there done that and want at a certain stage in life, to make their money work for them. They may have sold a few properties and still have a good income, whether it be working and retirement income. Owning is not always better.

    Fun video! And very educational 🤓
    We recently moved to Niagara from Toronto. We bought a home and are paying ~$1500 a month for our mortgage: 3 bedrooms, basement and big backyard. I work mostly from home and my husband goes to the office in Toronto a few time a week, so it works for us. I can’t imagine now paying that much for such small living spaces 😳 Like somebody said once: I love Toronto, but I don’t love it that much 😅

    Something else about the older units vs the newer units is the full size appliances! The new units usually have the smaller versions of everything, which for people who are really into cooking or baking, can be a huge drawback.
    We moved from a newer building (2016) to an older one (2003) around the time this video was posted and the space and appliances mean we’d never go back! 2 bedroom 2 bathroom with a den and parking for $2500 right downtown with a sweet non obstructed view.

    I use to thing it was weird seeing other people's stuff too until I moved from one apartment to another apartment (instead of moving out of my parents to an apartment). There's no way to totally clean out a place for viewing if the landlord wants to fill it up immediately. You generally expect people to make it presentable (think of when people are showing their house) but not everyone has the same standards lol.

    • @stephandden

      Hahaha very true! This place threw me off because there was a thick layer of dust everywhere - it really felt like no one had been home in a while (or at least hadn’t been using their living spaces!). But a really nice spot 😊

    • @jaclynappugliesi
      @jaclynappugliesi 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@stephandden It is because many people living downtown had to fly home in the middle of a pandemic and had to leave their condo quickly. It's very important to remember the times we are living in as not all tenants are concerned with dusting a place as they are concerned to go home to their families.

    Honestly, that is amazing for 1700 in Toronto, especially west Toronto. my family rents a 2 bedroom 1 bath for 1500 just because it's in St James Town and we managed to get the owner to keep the lease the previous renters had. also, cuz when we moved the building was falling apart until the new management took over, I'm nervous that my block is getting gentrified tho, they might want to raise the prices soon and not want to renew older contracts 😬

    These prices are outrageous. The properties shown in the video are not even that cool - just shoe boxes with little to none privacy; the views for properties below the 3K are just yuk.
