    This reel is the latest design from Robert Koelewyn, the designer of the Van Staal and Zee Baas Reels.
    I wanted a smaller fully sealed reel to replace my VR50 after using it for two seasons. I did have some line wrap issues I think with my VR50 which ultimately led me to sell it.
    In this video I unbox the reel for the first time and go over some of its features.
    You can find more information about this reel at www.visserreels.com
    I'm in no way affiliated with Visser Reels. I paid for this with my own money.

    Here's the thing about Rob. It seems everyone he brings in as a business partner, he strands them, and moves on to another thing. Thank goodness a healthy company took over Van Staal. I have a 3Tand fly reel that is awesome, but Rob left him hanging and the company seems to be no more.
    Enjoy your reel. Don't expect Rob to hang around to keep the company healthy. BTW, I have met the guy. He is a cordial man and very smart. He just doesn't seem to be loyal.

    Awesome buy. I have the 6 and no regrets. Fished it hard and had multiple decent stripes and blues on it. This reel will be bashed for sure for the ones that own the Vr or VS. This reel will come around and make a name for itself as they have.

      I returned the 3 for the 4 cause it didn’t hold much line as advertised.
      I like that vacuum pump tool they will sell that can check the seals.
      I can’t wait to catch some stripers on it.
      Thanks for commenting and tight lines!

    Been using the #4 Black for over a year now primarily on Sod Banks it's not big enough for surf application in my area. No issues so far. I fish it hard meaning in tough conditions and often but I don't abuse or challange it on purpose. Its paired with the 7foot 6inch ODM Back Bay rod and has landed well into triple digits mid 20 to 38inch Bass. Generally I fish top waters mid season and soft plastics in the early spring, late fall. Love this reel for the type of application I use it for.

    • @LesFishingMoreCatching
      @LesFishingMoreCatching  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah for surf I would use a No. 6. I use my 4 for back bays and the north shore of Long Island with 20# braid and it handles all the fish around here no problem.

    lol major red flags, website says 9.2oz box says 10.6oz and the real weight is 11.6oz?? i wonder what else on that website is a lie

    • @LesFishingMoreCatching
      @LesFishingMoreCatching  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Most reels don’t weight what the box says actually if you weigh them. They are up to Gen 3 now. The service was very expensive to get my stripped screws out. They changed the design because I told Rob to change it to Torx. Early adopters of anything always will have issues to be ironed out.

    Is the visser smoother than the van staal vr?

    • @LesFishingMoreCatching
      @LesFishingMoreCatching  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s hard to say cause I was comparing a used vr50 to a new no. 4 but I would say yes. The VSX is smoother than the VR50 I recall also.

  • @jubert93
    @jubert93 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    What rod would you pair this with. Is this really the same size as VR50. I sold my VR50 bc the gears stripped after a single use. To me VR is garbage. VS/VSX are the way to go. Visser I was interested in due to waterproof design and the overall weight.

    • @LesFishingMoreCatching
      @LesFishingMoreCatching  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s on my Lamiglas GSB 9’ L. I’m going to get the line today and spool it up.
      Yes the size is almost identical to the VR50. I sold it so I can’t do a side by side comparison. The No. 3 and 4 use the same body but have a different spool I believe only.
      Yes I think the VR50 wasn’t that good. This weighs 11.6oz with the spool and no line.
      Thanks for watching and tight lines!

    • @LesFishingMoreCatching
      @LesFishingMoreCatching  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I tried to spool up the 20lb braid and it barely held 225yds. I contacted TD and they are exchanging it to No. 4 for me.
      I find it strange the weight and line capacity are way off.

    • @thedetective8150
      @thedetective8150 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The VR50 was on my list to buy but I keep reading serious quality control issues like what you reported here. I read that the VR50s bail spring is very visible and a huge entry point for water, sand and other debris. That’s a huge design flaw for a sealed reel.

    • @LesFishingMoreCatching
      @LesFishingMoreCatching  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@thedetective8150 my bail became loose and sloppy after 2 seasons of use. The Visser is way smoother and tighter so far but only time will tell. I did land a nice bass the other night in it. Caught about 7 fish on it so far. Video will be up soon. Thanks for watching.

    Les, hows it going with this reel? I want to purchase one but i seen the reviews on SOL that they say theres issues on the design regarding the waterproofing/seal that the inside could get rust. Also i seen reviews here in youtube that shows the same thing. I want to hear from you before i make a puchase. Thanks a lot!

    • @LesFishingMoreCatching
      @LesFishingMoreCatching  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure if you followed the reel, but those early prototypes have had all the issues fixed. The owners of those reels have commented and cleared up the issues they were having.
      I haven't taken mine apart yet, but it has lasted longer then my VSX which locked up from corrosion after sitting over winter. I had to put in 175F water and let it sit for a hour and then i was able to spin the rotor free and take apart the reel using my 3D printed wrench I sell on my website.
      So far the Visser > VSX and I have my own proof. I don't like to rely on the internet for testing, I like to figure and test stuff and find out myself first hand. Hope that helps.

    • @LesFishingMoreCatching
      @LesFishingMoreCatching  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also they just changed the VSX design and moved the anti reverse out of the handle and put it in the main body now like most reels so there's no slop or rubberbandness that I noticed right away when I got the reel which I mention in my video that I saw no one else onlone mention....

    Are you doing this video for visser just so you get discount or sponsorship by Visser? Because Visser is having shit ton of issue with their reels right now. Horrible customer service. Very very irresponsible for their customer. You could send their reel in for service and get back with worse condition than before. Look at Tackle Advisor review about this reel. I'm surprise this Company isn't bankrupted yet.
