The brass snake pen stand looks really beautiful and special! But if it were me, I would've kept worrying if the brass would scratches the lacquer or plastic body (even precious resin) of the pen.
That’s a great question. The scales themself are pretty smooth and I saw no problem with Urushi or the MB. But I don’t use it as a “rest” but as a display so I’m not worried about that aspect at all.
I have just come across you and had to subscribe just by watching this one. I have watched a few/a lot more, and I appreciate the amount of time you take for the content and the ink shoots, Amazing and captivating. Also very dangerous for my money. I am content with that though as I get to learn the people behind the names and some of the processing. You are doing incredible things here and I do hope you keep going. You have also inspired me to learn more about different cultures and languages. Please keep yourself happy and heathy and always aim to have an amazing day Massive thank you.
I’m so glad you got something out of this! My vids take a long time to put together and it is so gratifying you saw something beyond just the pens. Thanks. Take care!
It is so good to have you back! 💕 Thanks for sharing another beautiful video. Nice pen rests should be easier to find! Thanks for listing websites to checkout.

Welcome back. Yes the pen rest for free makes sense. I got the Toyokoocraft stand (horizontal small one) after hearing one of you mention it on Tokyo Inklings. Very nice. Have a good summer.
I’m so glad to see you’re back. I’ve been wondering and hoping was everything was ok with you. Maybe see you for lunch (or dinner or sightseeing) in Feb.
Another great video, and a very nice way to showcase your pen collection. I don't like to post either, and there's something comforting in holding the cap in my left hand while writing.
I’m just seeing some of your vids.. whew, guys I’ve been busy. I do the same thing resting my pen in the cap. Ha. Never thought about it til now. Sending you peace, love and pens!
Glad you are back. Fantastic video. I thought you were up to empty a bottle of ink after the warning disclaimer 😂. Thanks for your work and the quality of your videos.
As always, interesting, entertaining and informative! Well done!! Loved your "trigger warning" - your solution for workhorse pens works fine by me. (I cushion mine with a paper towel too.) I'm a "dog guy" but I love the Cat riding the Mouse-cycle! Very cute as long as your pens don't play cat and mouse with you. OK. that was kinda lame, but I do like that pen rest. SBRE Brown just reviewed the Rattlesnake stand. Your images and his really make the craftsmanship of that snake look amazing. Snakes don't bother me unless they surprise me (that _has_ happened!) and, since I grew up in Rattler country, I find them (well, at least the pen stands) pretty interesting and even nostalgic if that isn't too strange. As a geology / rock hound, you probably have some "feelings" about rattlesnakes too. Have you heard of or tried the "Penwell" made by Dan Keller and sold through his "Good made better" website? I find his products well crafted and quite functional. The Penwell makes it easy to use a capped pen as a "desk pen" for frequently interrupted writing sessions. Thanks for another great review.
Thanks so much. I had not realized there were so many reviews on the snake rest. I had gotten an email earlier but I wasn’t doing vids at the time. I’ll need to check out the Penwell!
@@InkyRocks I certainly don't mind multiple reviews of the same product. Different reviewers with diverse opinions and perspectives are good to have! When I last checked out his website (EDIT: ie: Coppertist Wu's website), these had sold out, so they must be popular. ---- Dan (EDIT: at his Good Made Better website) has expanded his line since he first produced the Penwell and now has a number of items. I bought two Penwells when they first came out; one Walnut (for my glass-topped desk) and one heavy Brass (for my kitchen / dining room countertop). I find them attractive and they work just as he claims. However, you (and others) _might not_ benefit by them since you habitually hold the "loose" pen caps in your "off" hand anyway. I've done that, too, for short writing sessions, but I still like leaving the caps "in their homes" whether its an extended or frequently interrupted writing session. (Oh, and no, I don't get any benefit from his sales nor are we related, I just like his personality (as I do yours!) and his products!)

Oh man, I hope your fam are all ok, or better yet, thriving 💜 Thanks for brightening up my day and totally blowing me away! Those specimens are a very enjoyable extra treat, and beautifully composed with the pens. Great reason to hit replay.✒ That carved dragon is INSANE and the particular pen stand, the snake, is like nothing I've seen to date. I have to have it. I never knew till now. It's exactly what I need for one of my dansu/tansu chests. I don't really have a choice in this matter. Hope all is good now & great to see you back. Not really a pen rest person but it looks like I’ve been missing out. The copper snake is very cool and wonder if the scales would scratch (?). Welcome back, again. and thanks the video. Ps I use mugs for pens but being the barbarian I am I don’t add any at the base. And i restrict them to non fountain pens. 😂
You barbarian hahaha! Someone else asked about the scales. They are pretty smooth but I use it as a display stand and have had no problems with either acrylic or Urushi. If one were to constantly and carelessly use it, I don’t really know.
Geez. I just use a carpet sample as a pen rest, because I don't want anything scratchable near my precious pens. I am...a peasant. But...I will see you at TIPS in November and I owe you at least a coffee!
Wow that rattlesnake pen rest is beautiful 🤩. He did look like he was smoking a cigar😂. Just found your vlogs a couple weeks ago and have enjoyed them all. I’m pretty new to fountain pens. A nd you have introduced me to the world of inks! I am happily drowning in the “swamp”.
Just found your channel and loved this video. I’ve been searching for different pen rests and displays. Thank you for a great video. I too put the work horse pens in a coffee cup and line the bottom with a form cushion. Where did you ever find your interesting Montblanc 149? My husband loved the look of yours.
Speaking of free pen rests, Colorverse inks offers a free pen rest with their combo set of inks. It's a bit of plastic that you can fold into itself, but it does the trick. That snake pen rest is something else though!
Oh and to answer the question…..I have cups for inexpensive pens, a chopstick rest for dip pens, and just a nice plate (maybe for asparagus?) for inked pens. Much less organized than it may sound.
Hi! One of your subscribers recommended you as a good person to ask about where to shop for fountain pens in Japan. My husband is there for the next two weeks and my hope is he will come home with something raden, maki-e, or Urushi that can’t be purchased anywhere else. Alternatively, a limited edition of something that we can get in the US, but can’t get that color or decoration style in the US would work, too. (example: a Pilot Capless (aka Vanishing Point). Do you have any recommendations for specific stores to visit? He will be in Osaka and Tokyo, mostly.
All of those pen stands are so stunning, I am truly speechless. It feels weird to call them "pen stands", where even a small plastic toy astounds me with level of detail... Insanity. Also oh god those glass pens... swoon... On a side note almost all japanese "incense holders" that I saw need to have some additional plate or such underneath. It's so weird. The chopstick stand is a cool idea, I wonder if they are available where I live... Must check it out! I was a bit shocked that putting pens in a cup is bad, apparently?? >:O It's definitely much more space-efficient though! So many of those pen stands feel luxurious also in terms of space on desk!! I have no space so cup it is, maybe a sturdy paper cup or box could be a solution? Thank you for another lovely video, good to see you back~
Very nice, and I wish I was the kind of person who needed something like this to show off my organized, Instagram worthy life….which I don’t have. If I bought one, I’d be forced to clean off my desk so that it wouldn’t look stupid amid all the mess. When I’m not using my pens, I just put them down carefully on something that won’t damage them.
I wish I had an instagram worthy life hahaha! My desk is utter chaos now but the snake looks cool amongst the clutter. I keep the glass display on a shelf. Everything else gets thrown on the Shinari. I’ve learned to love messy!
Mam thank you very much for your reply I also buy inks only for the bottle shape only love from India by the way if you want sheaffer stars of egypt ink well I can send it to you I have white and blue color spare inkwell please check it on the internet
I never thought of using chopstick rests. As if I needed an excuse to shop for pen related items, even when they're NOT pen related... 😅😊😂 EDIT to add: Anybody who is upset at that very nice looking cup for your pens would probably hate my desk. I have a coffee jar for the same purpose, and uninked pens sit in what was originally a cutlery tray, which I took the bottom off and padded before re-fitting it. I do like those wooden rests before the bit with your cup, and have some beautifully figured wood that i could make some from.
Those would be gorgeous. I’ve always thought wood goes well with fountain pens. I think my desk would really scare people and have never completely shown it hahaha!
There is a company now that makes boxes to store glass pens. If you check out my stationery from independent companies vid. You might be able to make one like it.
@@Bodhi246 it doesn’t have a name as far as I can tell. It’s was sold to me as a “Pocket Pen” from Mr Pilot (he has like 40 years working for Pilot and goes to shows here selling vintage Pilots.) Edit to add: I think it was called that too on eBay as I checked the price there.
“[The rattle-snake’s] eye excelled in brightness, that of any other animal, and that she has no eye-lids. She may therefore be esteemed an emblem of vigilance. She never begins an attack, nor, when once engaged, ever surrenders: She is therefore an emblem of magnanimity and true courage. As if anxious to prevent all pretensions of quarrelling with her, the weapons with which nature has furnished her, she conceals in the roof of her mouth, so that, to those who are unacquainted with her, she appears to be a most defenseless animal; and even when those weapons are shewn and extended for her defence, they appear weak and contemptible; but their wounds however small, are decisive and fatal. Conscious of this, she never wounds till she has generously given notice, even to her enemy, and cautioned him against the danger of treading on her. Was I wrong, Sir, in thinking this a strong picture of the temper and conduct of America? The poison of her teeth is the necessary means of digesting her food, and at the same time is certain destruction to her enemies. This may be understood to intimate that those things which are destructive to our enemies, may be to us not only harmless, but absolutely necessary to our existence … ‘Tis curious and amazing to observe how distinct and independent of each other the rattles of this animal are, and yet how firmly they are united together, so as never to be separated but by breaking them to pieces. One of those rattles singly, is incapable of producing sound, but the ringing of thirteen together, is sufficient to alarm the boldest man living.” -Benjamin Franklin
@@InkyRocks if he had his way, we would have had the Timber Rattlesnake instead of the Bald Eagle as our national animal, and given what Ben wrote here, I have to say it would also have made a great animal to represent us. I bet you can guess which one of the pen holders I'm picking up!

Just found your channel and loved this video. I’ve been searching for different pen rests and displays. Thank you for a great video. I too put the work horse pens in a coffee cup and line the bottom with a form cushion. Where did you ever find your interesting Montblanc 149? My husband loved the look of yours.
Thanks so much Clare! The 149 is an aftermarket Urushi by Bokumondoh. I have a vid on here. Quite a few of my pens have been worked on by her.
thanks for sharing! 💜
Thanks! 💝
Glad you are back!
Thanks! 💖
Speaking of free pen rests, Colorverse inks offers a free pen rest with their combo set of inks. It's a bit of plastic that you can fold into itself, but it does the trick. That snake pen rest is something else though!
That's awesome! I'm really enjoying the snake hahaha!
Welcome back - you have been missed
Thank you so much. Being back helps a lot💕
Even chopsticks rests could do too 😁
As demonstrated in this video?
I use them all the time!
Oh and to answer the question…..I have cups for inexpensive pens, a chopstick rest for dip pens, and just a nice plate (maybe for asparagus?) for inked pens. Much less organized than it may sound.
Ah! That asparagus plate sounds like a winner!
Oh, the horror, the horror! Lol! The cup storage method seems to be a practical solution.
I know! I thought for sure I’d get heat in the comments. Perhaps that trigger warning worked!
Thank you for another lovely video, good to see you back~
Thanks so much! I like having the variety of stands especially since I film so many pens!
In order to trigger me, you're going to have to do better :D Nice to have you back !
Hahaha! I thought for sure I’d get roasted in the comments. Apparently it’s not that wild! Thanks Francois!
These are sooooo cool wowwwww
Thanks! 💞

Saw this video now one small question what is the brand of ink with silver cap? please post your comments thanks God bless you
For some reason your comment got sent to my spam box. It is a Bortoletti ink. I'm not sure about the color, I bought it for the bottle hahaha!
EDIT to add: Anybody who is upset at that very nice looking cup for your pens would probably hate my desk.
Hellooooooooooooooooo! So good to 'see' you again!
Hahaha! Thanks
Lol@ Up close, it looks like he's kind of smoking a cigar. Good to see some sense of humour in the fountain pen community.
Hahaha! But it did didn’t it!?
I need that cover for my glass pens I just keep them in boxes
There is a company now that makes boxes to store glass pens. If you check out my stationery from independent companies vid. You might be able to make one like it.
I love the $400 Montblanc pen rest
What is that pen on 7:30.. It looks like a pilot e95s but the design and colour is different..
It's a vintage pocket pen and looks a lot like the e95.
@@InkyRocks Can you please share the name if you don't mind??
@@Bodhi246 it doesn’t have a name as far as I can tell. It’s was sold to me as a “Pocket Pen” from Mr Pilot (he has like 40 years working for Pilot and goes to shows here selling vintage Pilots.)
Edit to add: I think it was called that too on eBay as I checked the price there.
This may be understood to intimate that those things which are destructive to our enemies, may be to us not only harmless, but absolutely necessary to our existence …
‘Tis curious and amazing to observe how distinct and independent of each other the rattles of this animal are, and yet how firmly they are united together, so as never to be separated but by breaking them to pieces. One of those rattles singly, is incapable of producing sound, but the ringing of thirteen together, is sufficient to alarm the boldest man living.”
-Benjamin Franklin
Ben thought a lot about sneks 💕
@@InkyRocks if he had his way, we would have had the Timber Rattlesnake instead of the Bald Eagle as our national animal, and given what Ben wrote here, I have to say it would also have made a great animal to represent us.
I bet you can guess which one of the pen holders I'm picking up!
@@XericSol hahaha! Excellent choice!

You don't post your pens!? I'm so triggered 😾
Welcome back!
Hahaha! Me too…
Great that you are back Alesa. I hope that all is well.
The Cho Kuro ink looks very black...like Maybelline very black mascara! Lol. ❤
