Tonle Sap: Saving Cambodia's Great Lake

- While Cambodia has made some progress in providing water and sanitation services to its people, in the country still has the lowest water and sanitation coverage in East Asia and one of the lowest in the world. Many still rely on groundwater abstraction, rainwater collection, or surface water for their water needs, while sanitation is almost nonexistent.
These problems are compounded by poor sanitation awareness, with few people using latrines, clean water jars, boiled drinking water, or properly washed hands. Partly because of these conditions, the country's infant mortality rate is the second highest in Asia at 124 per 1,000 live births, and has even increased in the past decade. Many rural areas show high rates of waterborne and water-related diseases. In order to partially address the problem, rural water supply and sanitation have been built in five provinces around the Tonle Sap lake basin.
The Asian Development Bank aims for an Asia and Pacific free from poverty. Approximately 1.4 billion people in the region are poor and unable to access essential goods, services, assets and opportunities to which every human is entitled. Get involved. Share this video. Thanks for uploading the video and great presentation. The Tonle Sap is the largest lake in Southeast Asia and is known for being a key habitat for freshwater fish and numerous endangered species. Nearly half of all fish eaten by Cambodians are from this lake, making it critical to food security and nutrition. Furthermore, Tonle Sap has provided fresh water throughout the year.👌

Been to Cambodia and visited the lake, I feel very sorry for its people. truly.
The Tonele Sap lake looks really pretty.I would like to go there for a vist.But it really bad that the lake is polluted and kids are drinking water from the lake. And the reason I watched this video is because I am from Cambodia and I want to vist Tonele Sap lake one day.😍😍😍😍

We need to educate the natives of the place and they must lead us in the mission of preserving the lake and the forest.
Now in 2023 sometimes fishermen catch nothing for a full day. The water also very low in wet season.
The Cambodia government need to save the Great Lake and people movies to the land before it long gone

Illigal Vietnamese migrants are the big bad impact in Tonle Sap, I grew up there, I know that real fact, Khmer and Cham (Islamic people) were fishing in consistent conserved and sustainable way but those Vietnamese were using electric bets to capture fishes and caused a lot of bad critical impact to the ecological system in water and around.
Cambodian rely on Tonle Sap for their foods. Fish is the main diet for Cambodian, w/o Tonle Sap, they won't get their main diet. Also there is pollution. People live on Tonle Sap use bathrooms on the lake. They don't go on land to get rid of human waste ( urine, and feces).
there is alarm of utilisation of plastic bag which must be stop in order to protected the environment for the best of the future generation this must be taken in consideration or accepted to pay the price
Birds eat fishes, allowing too many birds to live in the lake, remaining fishes would not be much enough for cambodians
