  • Unbelievable! Kermouster rears-up in the stalls, is left at the start and detached from the runners for most of the race and then somehow manages to win - take a bow Sam James…

That is how a race is supposed to be ridden; collect you horse, rate him, and guide him safely through.
The horse has the speed, the jockey handles the timing and the steering. Teamwork.

@@black__ship 99% of racehorses would never be born if horse racing didn't exist, and they lead lives a million times better than they would if born in "normal" situations. Yet I presume you would ban it tomorrow if you could? Why stop with horses? The majority of the billions of people on this planet have to fight tooth and nail each day to survive - perhaps we shouldn't allow them here either? (Coincidentally, most of them are also "working" for the rich.)
I'm also far from convinced that all the people populating your local betting shop each afternoon are "rich", but I suppose everything's relative.

Sounded quite reasonable that as the race progresses, the furlong times will reduce substantially, due to horse fatigue.

I’ve been around horses quite a lot and can tell you they DO NOT like it either. Some horses will react very negatively, and others who just put up with it. There are a lot of people who believe they should be banned entirely, but others who will say that a light tap will get the horse going fine.... I’ll admit I’m very much against how hard racers usually hit their horses. I’ve seen it break skin if done too hard too often. Ouch! Gently plz

Did anyone notice the winning horse stick his head out at the finish line. Do horses know the concept of racing and the science behind sticking your head out to inch in front. Amazing.

0:45 if you pay enough attention, all jockeys pushed their horses except the winning jockey who still holding horse at the back...
He allowed his horse to fully start its engine when others used up half energy...it was tactics, not only luck

I've seen more unlikely victories. Watch Belle du Jour win the 2000 Golden Slipper at Rosehill. Now that was a miracle when you consider that it is Australia's premiere 2YO race.

This video looks a bit mixed up if you follow the jockey's silks coloring AND the horse/horse number. The #3 horse was the winner, yet the # 3 horse at the start was a different horse, # and silks. The # 6 horse was the poor starter... yet the winner was #3... something doesn't add up.

Yeah. I'm sitting here, hoping they only wave it around instead of actually hitting them, but I don't think that's true.
      It's just... Ugh. Poor horse

I an tell you, they need the whip. Its not just used for Speed, its also used for steering the horse. A Dressage rider steers the horse with leg, body weight and reign. The jockey cant do this because the leg is too far up, his body too and its nearly impossible to steer a horse with only reign. So he uses the whip to steer. The whip isnt hard like a dressage whip. Its fully padde

@nikk-named I ride, and yes, the horse does get whipped hard, unfortunately some horses can be a bit lazy, and do need the whip.

Some horses like to have horses in front of them to run "at", it's just a personal quirk. Zenyatta liked to compete this way.
